Yeah, I agree. It's still about a month away and there is still time they could delay the start a few more days. Even if they did start the Criterion sale on the 12th there probably wouldn't be much time to take advantage of an overlap of both sales. You're really looking at potentially only a few hours if there was an overlap.

It may be a moot point because I can't get any BDs or DVDs that are currently more than 40% off to also qualify for the B2G1 offer. I haven't tried all of them but I have tried a number of BDs and not one worked. So even if the Criterion and B2G1 overlap for a few hours, the Criterions may not qualify for the B2G1 because of the discount.

I want that one too. And I believe they are about to announce Kieslowski's Three Colors Trilogy and there's no way I can wait until the November sale to get that one. I think that will be my first day one Criterion purchase.

Could someone remind me whether or not BN.com has future Criterion releases (such as The Killing) at 50% off too during the July sale? If yes, that makes it easy for me to just do a ship to home order at the store and not worry about buying it in November when my membership expires.

Sure it's possible they could fix it from working but I would be surprised if B&N did anything since there is probably only short window for a sale overlap. Since Criterions seem to currently be part of this sale I would assume they will still qualify for the b2g1f sale until it officially ends. Also during the start of the current sale there were a bunch of 50% off DVDs available for a while until the sale from the previous month ended, and the b2g1f sale officially began the following day. Whatever happens I'm going to at least make sure to have a wishlist ready just in case.

The only pre-orders included in the sale are titles that will be released during the sale. However saying that it might be possible to get a store to do a ship to home pre-order for 50% off if you asked, but it is a huge ymmv depending on the store manager. I was able to get a local store in my area to do that for the America Lost and Found set last November.

I found a couple of new store coupons for this week but unfortunately there are no barcodes.

So let me get this straight:

It's a coupon w/o a code, that can be used by non-membership customers for both in-store & online purchases, but there's no online directions?

How confusing.

No, it means that they probably won't work in-store and that people will receive coupons with one-time-use barcodes via email once the coupon goes live.

No, eventually there will be a barcode on the coupon but you have to get it through a email sent from B&N.com. You need to sign up and receive coupon offers directly from B&N to get these coupons. Recently B&N started issuing some coupons with these unique online and store codes that can be used once by a customer.

Here are some samples I posted on a previous page with a comparison of the new barcode design to a regular generic coupon to show the differences.

This coupon stuff with B&N gets even more bizarre by the day.

Well I did run across a $5 off $25 purchase online coupon code that should work for all customers.

Worked for me, thanks! I preordered a book & bought 3 DVDs, so the coupon seems to work in conjunction with preorders and the B2G1 sale.

Right. I just received, at about 1AM, the "exclusive code" for this $5 of $25 in email.

I can envision a clueless CSR blithely entering in the code manually before she/he understands the joke (if she/he ever does).

I tested it with several pre-orders and can confirm it does work.

i'm almost positive that last summer's Criterion sale began on the tuesday after the B2G1 sale ended that Monday. Pretty sure they've been back to back each time.

as always, pre-orders are never 50% off. The only exceptions are those that have release dates during the sale, so you can pre-order them at the start of the sale. But anything coming out after the end of the sale is regular price.

Last year the B2G1 sale ended July 6, and the Criterion sale went live online July 12. Link for information on last years B2G1 and link when the Criterion sale went live. This year the B2G1 is supposed to end on July 12. They are running it a little later since July 4th is falling on a Monday this year.
