Thanks for sharing the info on Star Trek - Season 1 HD-DVD. I just placed an order. $50 isn't a bad deal at all.

The copy of Battlestar Galactica that I ordered from dvd.co.uk back on May 1st arrived today in absolutely perfect condition. Nine days shipping from the UK is pretty impressive. (They shipped it the same day I ordered.)

It's still in stock and on sale for 14.99 pounds.

Shipping is 3 pounds for a total of 17.99 pounds. I was billed $36.53 on my credit card.

I previously purchased an HD-DVD copy of Terminator 2 from dvd.co.uk and that also worked out great.

I also want to thank you for posting the Star Trek Season 1 deal. The $10 discount code really made it a killer deal. (Thanks g!) That was totally deserving of a front page deal over on SD. Congratulations on that.

I ordered a copy on May 7th and I received an email that my order shipped yesterday.

5/15/08 Update---> My Star Trek set arrived on 5/15/08! Eight days to arrive from Canada without paying extra for the expedited shipping. Unfortunately one of the hinges on the outer clamshell case was broken. The inner sleeve and all of the discs arrived in perfect shape.

BTW - IIRC, there was an outstanding question in the original thread about whether the flip side of the Aussie Star Trek TOS S1 HD-DVD combo disks were R1 or R4. I just got my set today, and though I've not opened it to confirm it, the bottom of the case indicates that the SD sides are R4/PAL.

This is pretty much what was expected, but I don't recall if anyone explicitly answered the question or not. I've got the SD R1/NTSC disks anyway, so it's no loss for me, but some folks who might have been hoping for R1 or R0 on the SD side are out of luck. We're buying this for the HD side anyway, but I can understand how having a playable SD side that dosen't require a region-free player might be a huge plus.

Thanks for the update. If you find something incorrect in the future, please go ahead and add a new post (unless you did and I missed it) so I'll see it. I'll go update the DVD.uk post in a moment.

There's the conversion (which is typically at the more advantageous inter-bank rate), and then there's whatever fee your CC charges, which I've seen vary from 1% to 3%. Looks like you paid ~$1.97 per GBP, plus 3%. Ouch.

You're very welcome.

I did add a new post about the pricing for the BSG S1 set much earlier in this thread. (See Post #6)

On the conversion rate question, it was 1.9847 dollars to pounds on the day I made the purchase. I think I used Yahoo's currency converter. I then estimated the cost to be 17.99 * 1.9847 = $35.70. When the transaction was posted on my Mastercard account, the final amount was $36.53 or about $0.83 more than my estimate. Assuming the difference was the transaction fee, that works out to 2.3%.

I do appreciate everyone's advice and posted experiences regarding international purchases. I never even would have considered this option if not for threads like this. I've now gotten some great deals from Australia, the UK and now Canada.

Thanks for the update! My copy is still in transit.

Did your order arrive via USPS?

And how well did the case hold up during the shipment? (I've read that the case is very prone to damage.)

Shoot. I meant that I got a shipping date notice (May 28, 2008 - June 09, 2008). Sorry for the confusion. Gotta learn to be more lucid.

No problem! I'll post an update when my package arrives.

I also found it interesting that the Canada Post tracking number is also recognized by the USPS.

Thanks, sarienanj, and welcome to the forum!

dvdgo.com is in Madrid ESP. They have a lot of HD DVDs listed for 24.95 (ouch!), but here are the sale items I found:

All prices in Euros ()
10.00 Aeon Flux
10.00 An American Haunting
10.00 Bridge to Terabithia
9.98 Downfall
10.00 Million Dollar Baby
11.60 Perfume
10.00 Sky Captain...
9.98 The Brothers Grimm
10.00 The Last Legion
9.98 The Pianist
10.00 Underworld Evolution

Shipping to US is 19.15 for the first half-kilogram (approx 4 DVD), or 25.02 up to 1 kilo (~8 DVD). Ouchie!

If anyone wants to take a shot looking through Amazon.de or bol.com and posting what they fine, I'd appreciate it!

They also have Mystery of the Nile available for EUR 23.99. The Image release was canceled in the U.S. The shipping availability is 3-10 days so it's yet to be seen if this is a legitimate release. A bunch of members on another forum got in on a group order but nothing has shipped yet. DVDGO has it listed as a two disc release, also unconfirmed.

Yup, European retailers have a number of titles that have never been released in the US, so this (and HMV, and Xploited, and HDAddicts) are good places to go for those unique titles.... like Equilibrium and Brothers Grimm and Mystery of the Nile, and others. It's expensive, for sure, but since All HD-DVDs sold anywhere in the world play on all HD-DVD players sold anywhere in the world, you can't go wrong.

(I red-bolded that bit bec it's been a few pages since it had been mentioned, that's all)

Thanks Ken Buzz-for anyone else who's not seen the following deal on BSG Season 1 yet, it's also available at DVD UK for 14.99, shipping to US is very reasonable. Good Luck!

http://www.dvd.co.uk/DVD/Battlestar-...duct.htm?sr=sa

They also had some other things such as the Region Free Transformer Animated Movie on Blu-Ray (for long-time fans!), for 8.95 and some other 2 for 12, and 2 for 15 HD DVD deals.

Yes, that's a great deal. Shipping to the US for the BSG S1 set is 3 pounds or about $6. See posts #55 and #61 for additional details.

As Bob mentioned, he's covered that. It is also in perma-post #4 at the very top of this thread, and was in Post #3 until ezyDVD.au ran out of stock. I got mine from Australia - they had the superior packaging and was selling it for ~US$27 IIRC.

I need to find that list of only-available-overseas HD titles and repost it here... I'm thinking some folks would be interested some of those titles, particularly if the overseas retailers have begun to clearance them.

Edited to add: Found it
