As a demonstration of its commitment to its customers, Best Buy will proactively mail cards to all customers that the company can identify as having purchased an HD DVD player. Members of the Best Buy Reward Zone program, customers who purchased Performance Service Plans (PSPs) or who made their purchase on BestBuy.com should look for their gift cards in the mail by May 1. Other customers who may not be easily identified can call (888) BEST BUY to receive their gift cards with proof of purchase through a credit card or their Best Buy receipt. "
Looks like I will need to call the number then.

I wonder if the same generosity will be extended to those who bought from the Best Buy for Business website?

I guess I'll probably be buying a Blu Ray player/PS3 from them after all. This is really good of them to do this. I STILL don't know what to do with my HD-DVD player. I bought all those Hollywood Video titles though. I'll probably just keep it and get a PS3 to go along with it... that seems like the best option at the moment. Though I suppose I'll check Best Buy's trade in values on the 21st. Maybe they will be good enough to justify bringing in the system and movies towards my PS3 purchase

does it say anywhere it was a limit of 1? I bought 2 of the Xbox add-ons and I'm a reward member, so if I get $100 in the mail soon (or $50) will be a nice bonus!

While I applaud BB for doing this, I curse them for using a cutoff of 2/23. I bought my A-35 on 2/24!

Thanks OP. The weird thing is it doesn't say how it to obtain your Gift Card. It just says they may will ship it to you. How are we supposed to know if they will ship it to us? Can we go to the store to get our GC?

Considering that is about the time all the crazy clearance sales started, I think it is relatively fair.

It says you will get a GC for EACH player purchased. So if you bought more than one qualifying model, you should get more than one card.

Just got off the phone with Best Buy. The man I worked with didn't even know about it. I was his first call. Took about 25 minutes but he figured out what to do and where to send the information. I also got a case number. I would suggest calling Best Buy. I personally was not going to wait to see if they "may" send me a gift card.

Very nice. I bought mine with a reward zone card on the website, so I should be good. Very welcome news -- I've been kicking myself for spending $199 on an A3, so this helps ease the pain. They certainly didn't have to do that.

Cool. I bought an A30 from them in January. I actually like Best Buy and try to buy most of my big items from them. Good going, good customer relations, BB!

I guess I'm the lucky one. According to my credit card, I bought my A35 on 2/23. Yay me! Of course, knowing my luck, I won't be able to find my receipt. And of course, I had to file a claim in the Reward Zone because it didn't show up in my account.

Bought an HD-A3 on November 4th of last year, called 1-888-BEST-BUY. Talked to a nice rep, looked up my purchase w/out receipt, and I qualified without any problems!

I heard somewhere there was a cutoff of Nov 6, NOT TRUE. Great job Best Buy.

Did the same, wasn't taking any chances. Spoke to a nice guy who said everything was in order and I should be getting one.

While this won't cover my A30 I got a couple weeks ago, my XA2 bought last August should be covered. I bought a pair of 360 add-ons, too, but returned them, so unless they screw up, I'm only getting $50. Not bad. Takes the sting out a little.

Same here, i snagged 3 360 add-ons last October and a couple $99 A2 back in November.

Now lets just hope we get the GC's in time to use on the firesale of HD-DVD's!

I don't think there's a start date...from their details page:

Best Buy's offer of a complimentary $50 gift card for each HD DVD player purchased is extended to customers who bought any of the following HD DVD products in Best Buy retail stores or online at BestBuy.com by 11:59 p.m. CST on February 22, 2008:

Toshiba HD DVD player models:
HD-A1, HD-A2, HD-A20, HD-XA2, HD-A3, HD-A30, HD-A35
Microsoft Xbox 360 HD DVD player accessory model 9Z5-00013

Ugh, I bought mines at Sears...still, why would anyone give their HD DVD players back? You'll still have the HD DVDs!

Great news!

After selling all of my purchased HD-DVD's and all but one of the Free HD-DVD's and now getting $50 back from Best Buy, I effectively have 1 HD-DVD movie left and a HD-DVD player for free!

I bought one back when they were released in April 2006 (HD-A1)....wish it went back that far. I WILL get $50 for the A3 I bought in November though.
