Re: General Costco DVD Thread

Damn that is a great price for all those Hitchcock films. I don't own any of those either.

Ugh, as g mentioned it's a complete crapshoot with that set.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

My set doesn't have any warped discs in it, but none of the discs are pristine. This style of set with cardboard sleeves are the worst.

At $21.99, that's $2.75 a movie... plus the wonderful book that comes along with it for free. Really amazing package crammed with info on the movies. Crazy deal.

Costco will allow you to return them easily if you feel like the set it really messed up.

Spellbound, Notorious, and Rebecca are each amazing movies. Those movies on their own run $13.99 - $17.49 each at Amazon right now.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

Spotted Seasons 1-4 of the new Doctor Who today at a local Costco for $39.99 each.
They used to go for something like $80 a box, but they've come down in price pretty much everywhere (well not FYE, Borders, etc). Amazon now has them for @ $43.99 as of this writing. The Costco price is the best I've seen...but not by much.

Saw various seasons of The Office, House, and 30 Rock for $17.99 (didn't notice which seasons, but there seemed to be a lot). Also had the first two Harry Potter Ultimate Editions for $19.99.

Forgot about this until I swung by Costco the other day. Had to get it despite owning both blu-ray releases. The book would have been worth $12.99 alone. Is "To the Hot Gates: A Legend Retold" exclusive to this release only?

My Costco has cut their movie section in half. Crappy PC software was taking up most of the shelves.

They usually do this in the summer. They re-stock by October to prepare for the Christmas season.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

I saw various Fox films using a 75th Anniversary packaging for $6.99.
This includes a bunch of 2 disc sets such as Butch Cassidy, 12 O'clock High, and
The Sand Pebbles, as well as single discs such as The Grapes of Wrath.

They also have the Warner 2 disc sets such as Yankee Doodle Dandy, Adventures of Robin Hood, Meet Me In St Louis, Singin' In The Rain, A Streetcar Named Desire and many others. For some reason Chariots of Fire is the very old single disc in the snapper case. Price is $9.99.

Yesterday, I saw Lost seasons 1-5 each at $19.99 due to an instant $10 rebate taken at the register. Also, included in each of the season's packaging is a $10 off coupon for season 6 which is out next week.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

Best Buy also has the Lost seasons regular dvds for $19.99 with a $20 coupon if you buy any one season and season 6. I paid $37.98 for season 5 and a preorder of season 6 before taxes. Also, Best Buy's season 6 is supposed to include an extra disc of special features.

Saw Supernatural Seasons 1-4 for $16.99 ea. today and there's a coupon for $8 off S5 on the package. Also saw Bones seasons for $19.99 (IIRC) and they had a discount for the upcoming set, but I didn't catch how much it was for; possibly $8 as well.

If the $8 off coupon that's on the Season 5 package is a WB's manufacturer's coupon, then Costco won't accept it.

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

This is why I love Costco:

Tennessee Williams Collection (6 movies and 1 Doc) $17.99
John Wayne and John Ford Collection (6 movies and 1 Doc) $17.99

This version of the John Ford collection does NOT include stage coach. Earlier versions of this set did. I already had purchased this one at DD for $22 but picked up the Williams set.

Add the WB Marx Brothers set to that list. Also $17.99. I went for the Tennessee Williams set. (I'll just hope that the material that's new in the upcoming Kazan set will at some point be available separately.)

Re: General Costco DVD Thread

The Charlie Chan Collection box sets were back in the stores this week at $19.95 each. I picked up the three Warner Oland sets the first time around way back when, and this week I picked up the two Sydney Toler sets.
