Is Costco phasing out its DVD selection? My Costco is down to just one giant table of DVDs - and its only half DVD. The other half is BluRay. The children's movies are gone and replaced with video games, with a meager music and computer software section on the other side. Meanwhile the books that had been decreasing are now over three large tables. Seems rather odd.

One Costco near me had many if not all the Fox 4 Classic movie collections for $8.99 each. Unlike Warner Bros, these sets are four discs with no flippers. These are the ones that are or were at Target for $9.99. Currently $17.99- $18.99 at Amazon. Another Costco near me didn't have any of these.

An Affair to Remember / Leave Her to Heaven / A Letter to Three Wives / Peyton Place
Anastasia / Gentleman's Agreement / The Ox-Bow Incident / The Snake Pit
All About Eve / Beyond the Valley of the Dolls / The Inn of the Sixth Happiness / Valley of the Dolls
Anna Karenina / A Farewell to Arms / Les Miserables / The Sun Also Rises
Fantastic Voyage / The Lost World / The Towering Inferno / Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
The Agony and the Ecstasy / The Bible / Demetrius and the Gladiators / The Robe
The Desert Rats / Twelve O'Clock High / Von Ryan's Express / The Young Lions
Desk Set / Hollywood Cavalcade / How to Steal a Million / I Was a Male War Bride
On the Avenue / Pin Up Girl / Something for the Boys / You're in the Navy Now
The Blue Max / The Desert Fox / Immortal Sergeant / Sink the Bismarck
Black Widow / Call Northside 777 / Dangerous Crossing / Laura

And others

It seems from what I read before ans seen at quite a few Costco,it goes down then back up.Someone might have some more detail about this matter.

My biggest gripe with Costco is they don't stock enough blu's and dvd like Sams club does, maybe it is not a big enough money maker for the space.

You must live near a special Sam's Club. Mine has a terribly small DVD/BD section. It's just 2 sides of one of their small shelving units. I should try to estimate the length but I'd say maybe 15' long. It's less than 1/4th of what my Sam's Club had a couple years ago before they moved the movies to the front. In fact, the selection is so bad that while I used to go to Sam's just to look at movies back when they had the bigger section, now I never go there except for food and supplies (just like Walmart used to be my primary movie source and is now a food source). My Walmart has at least 10 times more movies than Sam's Club, and my Walmart's movie selection is a small shadow of its former self.

Last time I went to Costco (which was at least a year ago since I'm not a member), they had probably 3x as many movies as my Sam's Club but far less than my Walmart.

But it is a little troubling that our local DVD/blu-ray section just shrunk to half it's previous size just as the store is clearly starting to go into holiday mode.

Costco rearranges their sections almost on a month basis. DVDs don't sell as well in the spring/summer as they do in the fall/winter becasue people are spending money doing things or going outside. The stock will go back up around September when the kids are back in school.

Yeah, the movie collection at Costco seems to wax and wane throughout the year, but it's usually the biggest in the run-up to Christmas.

Envy!
Mine has none of those, and I've been looking for a few of those titles.
Well maybe next week....

As seen on TV! I found "Ultimate Sonny & Cher" for $14.99. From the makers of Ultimate Carson and Ultimate Bob Hope.

My local NJ stores have shrunk the media section to a fraction of what it used to be. And, within that, it's mostly all DVD - with CD & BLU almost down to nada.
More on topic - I spotted:
Season boxes of the British series MI-5 (aka Spooks) for $25.
Also saw the first season sets of Charlie's Angels, Hart To Hart, and Fantasy Island for $10.99 each.
Also $10.99 were Cheyenne S1 and F-Troop S1 & S2. Can anyone confirm seeing $10.99 Wild Wild West sets, as had been posted previously? I've not seen those.

I saw Supernatural Seasons 1, 3, 4,and 5 for $16.99 each. No Season 2 at two stores I was at. Does anyone know if Season 2 is just not available at Costco?

Found it at the Chantilly, Va, store, too. I wanted to pick it up during the Tower going out of business sale, but failed to grab it, so I'm glad to have found it now.

Costco is becoming the last place I'd think to go to find DVDs anymore, although I got a Preston Sturges disc recently (Hail The Conquering Hero), but otherwise it's usually pretty slim pickings there.

The store near me, Clackamas, OR, finally had some of these in stock. (I got Fantastic Voyage, et al.)

In addition they had several TCM Greatest Classics sets for $9.99. I got:

Hammer Horror collection: Dracula has Risen from the Grave/Frankenstein Must be Destroyed/Horror of Dracula/The Curse of Frankenstein

Sci-Fi Adventures: Them!/The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms/World without End/Satellite in the Sky

They also had seasons 2-4 of Saturday Night Live for $12.99 a season.

OT, but I spotted the Pink Floyd "Discovery" box set for $149 the other night here in NJ.
Had hoped the "Dark Side Of The Moon" Immersion box would be there too, but it wasn't.

I also saw this in Port Chester NY.

In addition I saw 3 volumes of Shirley Temple films for $16.99 each. Each set contains 6 films. Basically similar to what they had 2 years ago where all 18 films were in one set for $49.99.

New Laurel and Hardy shorts set for I think $62.99.

What was the packaging like? Were they in keep cases? Thanks!

Definitely not keep cases. Each volume was about the size of a single DVD. They had an outer case. Not sure how the discs are arranged inside the package.

I brought this discussion up regarding Shirley Temple films back in September and I just got the set at www.walterdrake.com for 50.00...these are licensed films by FOX and come in a keepsake pack and yes, that company is good to do business with. Wal-Mart had some of these titles in their dump bin but 50 bucks is a good price as well as 63 for the L&H Essential Set.
