Best Buy Box Sets Marked Down

I apologize if this is old news or already has a thread (I skimmed 5-6 pages deep) but I just left my Best Buy (Douglasville, GA) and they had a table of box sets with a manually-printed out sign that indicated everything on the table was 40% off.
Presumably this would imply that it could possibly just be their store that's doing this, but I thought it would be worth sharing in case other stores were up to the same thing...
Many of them were Best Buy exclusives to begin with...
The table was located near the table they usually use to promote the current week's new releases (said table varies by location according to your best buy... mine was in the back of the store, but in the best buy i used to go to, it wouldve been up front presumably)

Some of the titles worth mentioning:
-King Kong Deluxe Extended Gift Box: http://www.dvdspot.com/dvd.php?d=1757586354
-UA 30-Disc Deluxe Gift Set: http://www.amazon.com/United-Artists...2844511&sr=8-2
-MASH Complete Series (Martinis & Medicine): http://www.dvdspot.com/dvd.php?d=1570931191
-Pirates Of The Caribbean 3: At World's End Best Buy Exclusive With Keith Richards action figure: http://www.dvdspot.com/dvd.php?d=1307028358
-Land Of The Giants Complete Series: http://www.dvdspot.com/dvd.php?d=1743460999

Plus I think there were deluxe sets for Hairspray, Alien Vs. Predator, A bunch of different wrestling ones, King Of Queens, and some kids movies.
I was very tempted to ask if the Ford At Fox set would be made available (they had the United Artists set on the shelf next to the Ford set, but the Ford set was absent from the table) but I never bothered. Someone did mention that it's a month-long thing, and he said that all copies of the table DVDs were on sale, not just the ones that were physically on the table (i.e. the other United Artists sets on the shelf).

40% off regular Best Buy prices = really good in most instances.
Feel free to post with any questions... or to delete the thread if this is old news.

Sounds like a Managers' special to clear stock.

In other words: YMMV.

Yeah, that's what I figured and tried to convey... still havent picked up the lingo around here, haha...

There was no Seinfeld box on the table, but I intend to check back next week, or possibly this weekend... it would make sense that it'd be on there... the theme seemed to be "crap we cant fit on our regular shelves"

Ill check the price on the AVP set...
im also willing to pick something up for someone if necessary... though by the time shipping and whatnot is settled, you'd probably only break even on most of them (i think the land of the giants would still be significantly cheaper than it is online, even with S&H)... and the United Artists set is already the same price on Amazon...

either way, its still worth checking out your Best Buys... or if you live in the Atlanta area it may be especially good for you.

The BB at Gwinnett Place had this last month, too. Seineld refrigerator set was $80. Good deal if you like the show.

:jawdrop:

Seriously. That's half of what I paid. I might have to make the trip to Best Buy and see what's up, if only for re-selling purposes to make my damn money back. Ugh.

Think West Atlanta off of I-20. It's 10 miles closer to you than the Atlanta Six-Flags.
Hope this helps.

Oddly, I found a half dozen of the 300 with Spartan helmet sets at my BB. I thought those things disappeared a long time ago, but there they were with a sign and everything.

That'sAllFolks 02-16-08 02:05 PM

scanned the Seinfeld frig -- 199.99
Land of the Giants 199.99

Definately YMMV, if this is real at all.

Anybody find these prices???

IMO, it's bad form to question the veracity of a fellow poster. It's obviously a YMMV situation.

UponFirstListen 02-16-08 02:20 PM

I can confirm these deals at this particular Best Buy. In fact, they've had that table up for weeks. I stop by every time I'm in there and gaze longingly at the Mash set. I haven't been in probably two weeks (whenever the new Mars Volta and Vampire Weekend CDs came out), so I can't confirm what's been added or removed. Obviously it's YMMV.

My bad. OP, Thanks for the post!

Three of us did. We appreciate the skepticism, though. :sarcasm:

WEEDEDOUT 02-25-08 02:03 PM

can anyone find a marked down fridge!!!???

stingermck 02-25-08 02:21 PM

My BB has custom wire racks for all these big box sets, so space isnt an issue. Which sucks for me.

rehmus 02-25-08 02:50 PM

I meant to post this last week...
The stuff was reduced to 60% off and may be even more off by now (or gone completely).
Another thing I noticed in there was the complete series for The OC...
I'll post again after I go back (probably tomorrow) if theres anything worth sharing...

shyguy1083 02-25-08 03:00 PM

are they closing that best buy and clearing out stock? i would love to see these at my local best buy... but no.

I was with him for this. $200 set marked 60% off. There were only two of them, so I doubt there's any left.
