I keep trying to get Season 1 but even at used I'll end up paying $40-45, I figured there has to be a cheaper place out there somewhere.

About $31 at BN with AAA and non-member coupon after tax & shipping.......

$29.19 with 30% discount plus 25% coupon at Barnes and Noble.

Do I need a coupon for the 30%? or is it a sale or something?

If you are comfortable with a Columbia House account you can pick up Season 1 as one of your enrollment titles in the TVonDVD club. If you do things correctly the set will cost you about $15 when all titles purchased are figured into the final tally. Once you've fulfilled the account you'll have at a minimum 2 TV sets and 2 movie DVDs for as little as $55 (+tax if applicable) total cost.
