this is a very nice set, the version of stripes included is the recent extended version that makes it very!! much worth it. stripes was a very funny film already, and the extended version makes it even better. it is not just a minute or 2 longer like so many "directors cuts", but a full 18 minutes of footage lost from the original version was put back in. alot of this footage was drug humor that was lost back then because, as an interesting note, when the film was 1st written, it was intended as a vehicle for cheech and chong, but when they passed on it and bill murray and harold ramis came on board, alot of the film was changed. some of the drug humor was kept in the theatrical release and given to judge reinhold, who played a stoner, but alot was cut when it wasnt going to be a cheech and chong movie anymore.

i do like the extended cut.. and i want to own it but the one scene i didn't like as much was the scene with the rebels out in the jungle/forest.. where they all become friends after being trapped and almost killed.

it IS funny but it slows the film down a lot.

i didn't know the backstory though, thanks for posting it. i should listen to that commentary.

Cheech was awesome as Hurley's Dad on Lost!

Saw the same set at Fry's today for $19.99.

This seems like a great deal.

Great price for 3 great movies. Worth noting however that there is a 15th anniversary edition of Groundhog Day being released at the end of January, 2008, which looks to be an improvement over this version.

I haven't ordered many pre-orders from DD before, but my order still hasn't shipped and I ordered in December. Anyone else received theirs yet? Will I receive an email telling me it has shipped or will it just arrive? On my account page, it still says "processing" and has the item listed as "pre-order", but the release date was supposed to be last friday.

This sometimes happens. It's not unusual. I haven't gotten mine either.

I'm guessing DD got a bigger demand for the discs than they were expecting, hence the delay. Truth be told, it is a very good deal.

Mine have not arrived yet either. I ordered on 12/26.

DDD email reply to my request for a staus update states;
"Our records indicate that the following item of the order#20075147 is out of stock:

DVD : CLASSIC COMEDIES COLLECT

Our expected date of arrival is 02/02" (Which I believe is Groundhog Day).

The most annoying part is this item is on their webpage as "available". How can it be available for new orders and out of stock for a previous pre-order at the same time?

Strange, but it now says:
This item is currently not in stock and will ship to you on 01/25/2008.
That's tomorrow! So apparently they have more stock coming, if they moved the date up a week...

Now it says will ship on 2/5 if you put it in your cart. Man, their inventory control is all over the place!
