It's the same artwork (front and back) as the steelbook version, just printed on paper in a standard amaray case. The slipcover duplicates the same artwork.

I wonder why Amazon.com is matching all these sales from their competitors, moreso than I've noticed in the past (and I'm not complaining)....it's all good as I prefer to shop at Amazon.com vs. a B&M for DVDs

In for The Dark Crystal - I hope it stands the test of time

Amazon has been matching Best Buy weekly sales for quite some time now. I have no idea why they chose BB to match instead of Circuit City.

More people shop at Best Buy. :D

Be clear on that though. Did you buy it online and just pick it up in the store, which it should be obvious to anyone will work...they can't change the price after you've agreed to the sale. Or did you actually buy them in the store without using the web site? That would be news if it worked because it sure didn't for me. I had no choice but to try since even though my store had Dark Crystal they only had 2 which meant the web site listed it as out-of-stock and unavailable for pick-up.

moviewizguy 12-03-07 10:03 PM

I bought Serenity, Robocop, Saw III, and Back to the Future.

etcl 12-04-07 02:10 AM

Amazon had also dropped the price of the FF extended to 8.99 to match BB.

Heads up to those who wants it

DJariya 12-04-07 09:05 AM

I picked up Serenity and Taxi Driver yesterday and noticed this new 2-disc edition of Serenity is PG-13, while the older edition was unrated. For anyone who's seen the unrated and rated editions, is there any siginificant difference? Not that it really matters, because 8.99 is a steal for this.

Also, do I need to watch Firefly to get a better clue who the characters are or does this film stand alone okay?

Serenity was my gateway to Firefly. The movie stands alone and is good, but parts make a lot more sense with the context of the series.

I think some emotional impact is also reduced without the context of the series behind it.

I have the older edition and it is also PG-13. As far as I know, the movie is identical on both releases.

And the film can stand alone as a separate entity. Joss Whedon designed it as such, but it definitely carries a lot more resonance if you are already invested in the characters. I'd would definitely recommend checking out the series first if you were already planning on it.

Serenity does stand alone, but Firefly makes it 100 better.
Firefly should have been the Star Trek of our generation!! F&*ing networks!!!

I tried the B1G1 instore with Black Hawk Down and Ghostbusters and it didn't work. I didn't know if the sale was online only or online/instore and wanted to check regardless.

starman9000 12-04-07 01:38 PM

Picked up POTC today with my 5$ off preorder. I thought it was a little weird that if you use a reward zone coupon when getting a preorder card, the will take the RZ money off of everything you purchase when you redeem it. (no extra money was taken off, but pretty odd that they reduced the price of POTC less than 5$ and then took the rest off of my other DVD )

I just went up to the register and when they both came up $8.99, I mentioned that the website said it is buy one, get one free and he changed the price.

So... can anyone confirm the t-shirt size for the Superbad DVD that has the freebie packaged with it?

No size is printed, but it's not that big. I'd say Medium.

aspects 12-04-07 06:25 PM

Thanks OP! I bought Casino Royale and Serenity for Christmas presents.

milo bloom 12-05-07 09:44 PM

I could not find the Razor bonus disc at either the Schaumburg or Bloomingdale stores. Anyone in the Chicago burbs know of another store that still has them?

sandman007 12-05-07 11:23 PM

Amazon has matched BB's price for the 2 disc special edition of Phantom of the Opera:

Those two for me also, though I might upgrade my TAXI DRIVER!

Dr. Mantle 12-06-07 02:18 AM

Did anyone buy BSG: Razor? Is the bonus disc worth it?

boku68 12-06-07 02:40 AM

I purchased it but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Here's some info on the bonus disc:

On that disc (which comes inside the packaging), you'll find a 20-minute featurette entitled The Making of Battlestar Galactica: Razor. It features new interviews with many of the show's cast and crew (including most of the principals as well as Stephanie Jacobsen and Nico Cortez, who play Kendra Shaw and Young Bill Adama). You also get on-set production footage, glimpses of additional unused material, a look at the creation of the show's effects and even previz video of the ejection sequence.

Pretty much everyone else is selling it for $19.99 like Best Buy, so why not get it from them and get the bonus disc?

Because if the bonus disc isn't that great, I'll get Razor from Columbia House, and then I can get it for about $5.

milo bloom 12-06-07 04:11 PM

All the copies of Razor at the two BB's I hit had the sticker on the outside, but the first store said they had opened six-seven copies in the back and there were no discs, and I got a clerk to open one at the second store and there was no disc either. Can you tell if it's inside by (gently) shaking it to see if something slides around?

I am curious. My copy came in a double disc case. Are some finding it in an envelope?

blued888 12-06-07 10:08 PM

Was finally able to get a copy of Robocop today. They didn't have it on the floor. It was in the stockroom, had to ask for it.

etcl 12-06-07 10:10 PM

Amazon has raise the FF Extended to 13+.

Think they may be raising the rest of the prices up as the sale at BB should be ending soon.

Just a heads up for those who wish to purchase from Amazon instead of BB

boku68 12-06-07 10:44 PM

My copy of BattleStar Galactica: Razor came in a double disc case (w/ swingtray). The bonus disc is red and says "The Making of Battlestar Galactica: Razor - Bonus Disc" on the front.

I went to the Downer's Grove, IL location after work and explained the problem to one of the floor guys and he popped one open and it had the disc in a double case with the swing arm.

From what I'm hearing, they've opened others and not found an extra disc. I was expecting it to be in an envelope like in the past, seems odd they'd do up a completely different version for one retailer (though they are pretty big).

Hmmm. I'd better open mine up and make sure it's in there.

Well, the CC 3-disc FF:RotSS had a two-sided tray so the case could hold three discs. And now that 2-disc and 3-disc single-wide cases are more common, it might be easier for the companies to put in a "higher density" case and slap on a sticker instead of using a cardboard disc sleeve with custom artwork, which has to be paid for, and shrinkwrapped individually, and either squeezed inside the case or shrinkwrapped with the regular DVD case (from which it could be stolen easily).
