Looney Tunes, Flintstones Mega Box Sets at Costco

Didn't see anyone post this yet, but it looks like Costco is starting to stock its Christmas DVD box sets. The store in Glendale, California, had a box with all the Flintstones DVD season sets along with a Fred Flintstone bobble-head for $129.99, and a box with all the Looney Tunes Golden Collections released so far along with a set of lapel pins of Looney Tunes characters for $149.99. (Didn't note which characters, but I think it was the major ones.) Hope this helps someone.

So are these good deals or just so-so?

pbro83 11-01-07 09:34 PM

It's a good deal compared to Amazon. You save about 50 bucks. Too bad I already bought them separately

Classic Films 11-01-07 10:05 PM

Costco has in the past offered coupons on their box sets during the holiday season.

JoN8282 11-02-07 12:24 AM

does this include the newest vol 5 looney tunes?

ppawuk 11-02-07 01:19 AM

Did you happen to notice if they sold any of the older Looney Tunes sets separately as well?

If volumes 1-5 are together $149, that's as good of a price you'll see (though I remember last year seeing some of the Looney Tune sets going for $27.88 apiece by me).

Back in April, Costco had 1-4 at $29.99 apiece. So if this includes 5, that is about the same price. No good for me since I nabbed 1-4 then so I just need 5...

Yes, Vol. 5 was included.

None in the Glendale, California, store.

I can confirm in includes Vol 5 which was just released.

The Costco near me also put out the Complete Seinfeld series early. Price is $179.99.

Not nearly as good as the B&N deal but Costco will have the compete
Seinfeld

This bundling mentality at places like Costco has gotten out of hand when they have a $149 Looney Tunes set that includes the latest Golden Collection, volume 5, on its release date, but NOT the individual volume 5.

While I'm pretty certain we'll see the individual release at Costco at some point, (probably for a nice low price, to boot) it sucks that it's not there (outside of the $149 set) on its street date.

Better check that this is the Golden collection and not the Spotlight Collection. It appears they were released on the same day and ar both a 5 volume set.

If it is the Spotlight Collection, it is not a good deal.

I have seen the set and it is the Golden collection and not the Spotlight.
The five sets are $30 each for a total of $150. Those most interested in this, like me, already have the earlier sets so no bargain for me, but if you love these cartoons and somehow haven't bought any of the sets yet, this is a good deal. In the past when a new set came out, the old sets would be priced cheaply. Not so this time at least not yet.

Corrected previous error.

Maybe I missed something, or you didn't include some other piece of information, but...

5 x $25 = $150 ?

Wonder if Costco will have the X-Files Collection and if so how much?

I've seen it but don't know how much.

wahlers 11-05-07 10:49 AM

Any way to tell if they are each individually sealed within the larger box?

None in the Glendale, California, store.

Actually, this store is in Atwater Village (Los Angeles).

You probably could tell because you can see the individual sets within the box but I did not notice if they are individually wrapped.

Tolhurst 11-05-07 11:57 PM

I believe x-files was 219.99

the looney tunes sets did not appear to be individually wrapped

They didn't look wrapped to me.

I passed on X-Files. Maybe next time if its still there. I ended up with Looney Tunes instead. I couldn't decide if I should get X-Files now or wait for the 2nd movie. I am not in a rush to get it.

Spiderbite 11-06-07 09:22 AM

I was waiting on a complete collection of Looney Toons set. Is this the complete collection or is this just the collections so far? How many sets will be released until they are completely done?

Also, I wonder if an HD set may be done in the future since HD editions are available for download thru Xbox Live Marketplace.

I don't believe V5 is the last one.

I'm curious about that. Since most of these are fullscreen, I guess there wouldn't be too much to derive out of HD, but if it'll make the WB more dough off of already produced and paid for product, you can be pretty certain it'll show up on HD-DVD eventually (pending their format "wins" of course).

Whatever. Close enough.

wahlers 11-06-07 01:07 PM

WB has not stated how many Looney Tunes volumes there will be.

There were (without exaggerating) over 1000 Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons, and each Golden Collection has 60 shorts.

I don't think they will put them all out, but they will probably do at least another 5-10 sets.

Woah. Didn't realize that. That's a crapload of boxsets.
