I was hoping for some sort of deal with the 1986 movie. Sigh.

Darkgod 10-14-07 11:09 AM

Planet terror steelbook ( with my coupon), Transformers 2 disc, and transformers gift pack ( If i can get one, and then pop it on ebay in a month or so)

DouglasRobert 10-14-07 12:26 PM

FYI, the Batman Begins is the Two-Disc Deluxe Edition for $9.99.

I was going to get the Fantastic Four: Extended Edition but they didn't have any in stock. They were supposed to have 8 in stock but they couldn't find any.

ds6161 10-14-07 04:18 PM

any info on the Tom Petty DVD set??

MoviePage 10-15-07 01:47 PM

Is Poltergeist still $9.99, or was that only last week?

bluetoast 10-16-07 10:28 AM

Once again, incompetence reigns supreme at Best Buy. The one at Potomac Yards didn't accept the coupon on the steelbook, because they somehow think it applies only to the regular edition. Their only "justification" for this is that the coupon says "Extended and Unrated" while the cover of the Steelbook doesn't say this.

Time to try out Pentagon City location next.

darmok 10-16-07 10:38 AM

hey bluetoast,

my local BB had no problem taking the manufacturer coupon. it didn't scan at first, but the cashier hit some buttons and re-scan'd the coupon, and it took. the $5 came off the total at the bottom of the receipt. sorry to hear your local BB is giving you such BS; definitely try elsewhere & good luck.

I didn't have any issues with my BB either. Besides, if the cashier contested the validity of the coupon, I'll just turn over the SB and point to the specs of disc one, where it clearly states the film is "Extended and Unrated". -wink-

This post made me nervous before I went to my Best Buy (Seacaucus, NJ), but luckily, the coupon worked.
The cashier didn't even blink.

Sweet.

Thanks man, and yeah I ended up going to Pentagon City, it worked, the guy didn't miss a beat.

Now my next question is....those of us that bought Death Proof when it came out...are we able to price adjust the $5 off coupon for it, that came with Planet Terror? It hasn't yet been 30 days, so I think that's possible.

Now that would be sweet, but I'll be surprised if it works. It's worth a try though.

darmok 10-16-07 02:11 PM

that would be very tough. you would have to locate the steelbook on the shelf (doubt there will be any left), and the full retail price minus the coupon will barely put a dent in savings against the original sale price paid on release week. let us know if you can figure something out!

Good news! The price match was successful. I first went to Potomac Yards, where I bought Death Proof in the first place. But then I saw the Iron Chef of bad sales again...at the Customer Service Desk. I had dealt with her not only this morning about the Planet Terror coupon, but also in regards to The Jungle Book/Ratatouille stuff stuff 2 weeks ago (where she was actually helpful). So I leave, knowing that she probably won't help at all.

Anyway, I go to Pentagon City, ask for a price adjustment. I had saved the receipt, so I presented that and the coupon, all that was needed. He set to work, refunded the $22.99, charged the regular $24.99 price, then applied the coupon.

So...taxes included

Original Charge: $24.14

Current Charge: $21.24

So I got back: $2.90

Ditto.

Any reviews? Will this be exclusive to Best Buy? Or exclusive for the next 2 weeks and then available everywhere?

By the way, my local BB was sold out of the Planet Terror steelbook in less than 90 minutes this morning! Strange considering they had the Death Proof steelbook for a few days before selling out.

2 Best Buys by my job were sold out on the Planet Terror steelbook by noon when I went at lunch. Have to try another on my way home.

I had forgot to bring the Planet Terror coupon this morning when I purchased the steelbook, so I went back to BB this afternoon with both the Planet Terror and Death Proof Steelbooks, the receipts and the coupons.

I told the CS rep that I had forgot to submit the coupons when I purchased the dvds, and she simply rerang the transactions and gave me $10 back. She did mention that as long as it was within 30 days, then it was fine.

So I ended up paying $17.99 for each Steelbook and then put the $10 towards the Transformer HD-DVD ($19.99 out the door).

persfave 10-16-07 09:31 PM

Missed out on the steelbook at all the LA stores. Driving around like crazy on my lunchbreak...

Any word on a restock?

JohnIan 10-17-07 12:21 AM

Got my steelbook and the "Transformers" litho without buying the movie.

Which is good since I had already bought it twice over (I'm so anal).

Well, you could tell the Blue Vest Monkey that the coupon came in a Best Buy EXCLUSIVE Steel Case...

I am very curious about this as well.

I am so, so, so dissapointed that somehow all the stores within a 30 mile radius of me (at least five) sold out of it by five today, when I got out of class. I feel like the Death Proof steelbook is lonely.

Geist 10-17-07 02:15 AM

If it makes you feel better, they were probably sold out by 11 AM. I watched one guy grab 5 steelbooks himself while others pushed and shoved to snatch what remained on the shelf.

JorgeC 10-17-07 09:39 AM

5 BBs i hit yesterday were all sold out. Cashiers on their afternoon shifts never even saw the steelbooks (most of these stores had Death Proof for at least a day...sigh).
