2-Disc Sets (Most of them from FOX) $9.96 Wal-Mart YMMV

My local Wal-Mart Supercenter has the following 2-disc special editions on display for $9.96.

Dances with Wolves (Extended)
Man on Fire
Platoon
Castaway
Independence Day (Five Star Version)
Day After Tomorrow
Ronin
Walk the Line

These were displayed on a rack in the front section of the store just in front of the magazine display.

Thanks for posting. It should be noted that the Cast Away 2-disc version has been on Target's $5.50 rack (and on sale for $4.xx a couple of times in recent months).

Some of the others do appear to be some decent deals.

Dane Marvin 10-10-07 08:48 AM

^ That's the 2-disc Walk the Line as well? I thought that was supposed to be OOP a while ago...

Yes, they had about 6 copies of the 2-disc edition of Walk the Line. It's been quite some time since I've seen that in the store (they usually only carry the single disc version).

akira7 10-10-07 10:19 AM

Holy crap, I have to get to some Wal-Marts and some Targets.

2-Disc versions of Cast Away, Platoon, and Walk the Line are going on my to-get list.

bunkaroo 10-10-07 10:44 AM

Of course I just bought the single disc version of Man On Fire for the same price. :(

Moleman1138 10-10-07 11:39 AM

This is the Digipak WTL right with an outlined Joaquin Phoenix

wildman1037 10-10-07 12:18 PM

No 2 disc WTL at my Walmart :(

Zen Peckinpah 10-10-07 01:54 PM

SO glad I grabbed Walk the Line before it disappeared. Wonder if Man on Fire will be hitting BD soon...

I might grab Ronin if I'm in the area; I don't trust MGM to carry over the SE extras to the BD. I've been meaning to get this on DVD since I was 11 and I never did. Seriously. Haven't seen it since the theater either; seems like I'll fall in love with it now.

Imail724 10-10-07 01:59 PM

Is Independence Day a digipack or keepcase?

Mad Dawg 10-10-07 02:27 PM

Excellent, and thanks! Been waiting on a good price for the 2-disc Man on Fire. I'll brave the WM circus for this one.

peateargryphon 10-10-07 02:35 PM

Yes, the Walk the Line version is the one with the outline of Joaquin Phoenix (I believe this was based on a poster for the theatrical release).

As for Independence Day, it's a silver double-wide keepcase.

shyguy1083 10-10-07 04:21 PM

ooh, sounds like some really great finds. gotta check out my wal-mart today. thanks for the info!

DoubleDownAgain 10-10-07 04:31 PM

Anyone seen them at Wal-marts in Canada? Highly doubtful but I thought I'd ask...

TheNightFlier 10-10-07 05:13 PM

Thanks for the heads up.

Is this a special display like they have used recently for the paramount deal or was this just a normal DVD rack? I have been to 2 different stores in the area with no luck.

shyguy1083 10-10-07 08:28 PM

nothing yet in my area (checked montclair, CA store). it took about a week from when the $3.98 thread was posted before those dvds started showing up in my local stores, so i'll just it a couple days before checking another store...

Moleman1138 10-10-07 09:04 PM

I checked with my friend in Electronics and they know nohing about it. Our 3.98 bin is hidden by the Movie soundtracks

Zbu 10-10-07 09:41 PM

Oddly enough I went to check this out tonight and I didn't see it. I did see three Wal-Mart workers talking about the woman who is falling behind in putting out discs, however. Very strange.

SniDa 10-10-07 09:57 PM

Nothing at two Walmarts here either.

project86 10-11-07 01:02 AM

Nothing at the 2 walmarts I've checked.

Jedi Master 33 10-11-07 01:19 AM

Great, now I don't have to pay $30 for Walk the Line, lol.

These DVDs are on one side of a wire rack in the middle part of the front of the store (nowhere near the DVD section of this particular store). They're on the same display as the DVDs from the MGM Decades Collection (bare bones versions of movies with a LIFE booklet and CDs from the decade), which is kind of strange, since Amazon says these are being released in December.

There's obviously no consistency in terms of when these deals are presented in the stores, since it took about 2 weeks after the thread appeared here before my store had the $3.98 Paramount display (which unfortunately did not contain any 3 disc World Trade Center copies or 2 disc MI 3).

basaro 10-11-07 12:57 PM

Haven't seen them in NH, but I did find 3-disc WTC. Anyone wanna trade? Looking for Walk The Line 2-disc. Email or pm me.

dlinke01 10-12-07 04:23 PM

Can anyone pick me up the 2 disc set of Walk the Line from Walmart? Mine didn't have the deal going. I can pay for the movie and the shipping. Thanks in advance.

David
