I braved three WalMarts in Sacramento, Folsom, and Rancho Cordova and I didn't find any, nor any trace that they were ever there (No empty spots on the shelf where they would be). I don't I've seen an Emmy section either.

Sounds like the ebayers are eating up all the SNL's. One of the drawbacks of the great info on this site is that it gets in the wrong hands sometimes and the ebayers will hord the good buys and screw it up for the average consumer.
I was lucky enough to find the orginal version at the Chula Vista, CA store. Unbelievable deal. The musical performances alone would warrant this set worth at least $50. 27 hours of material. The second episode includes a Paul Simon and Garfunkel reunion well prior to the Central Park concert. The first episode has George Carlin as a guest with Billy Preston and Janice Ian. It gets better and better from there.
One little trick when you cant find these good deals is to go to areas with high hispanic populations. They normally dont buy American TV shows, especially classic ones. When the ebayers were swooping up all the HBO shows during the Costco coupon sale, I went to the Chula Vista Costco and they were loaded up.

Went back to the Williamsburg Wal-mart yesterday morning and they had 4 copies in stock (last week there wasn't even a spot for it). Grabbed one for myself but may go back to get some more for resell.
The one I picked up was the version with the gold emmy slip over the cover but it did in fact have the photobook.

Question:
I actually like the box for the newer version better. I couldn't completely tell, but does the Gold bordered front come off and reveal the cover that is on the original release or is the gold border the only thing on the front and won't come off? I tried to pull down the front cover through the plastic and it looked like it budged a little but I couldn't completely tell.
Thanks for the help.

My Walmart had a ton of these in a display that featured repackaged series (West Wing, Newhart, Cheers) all for under twenty bucks. And it must be the original release of SNL because one of the "special features" included (according to the boxset) is the "collector's booklet" which is nowhere to be found in this purchase.

i picked one up today at my walmart (they had a ton!) but alas no booklet. how does one tell if the set has the booklet? mine may have to go back since one of the disc spindles is broken and will not hold the disc.

Wait... I was under the impression that both sets had the booklet, although only the golden-slip cover says it does. I bought the non-gold and haven't opened it yet. Maybe I'll be exchanging it...
