X-Files "Ultimate Collection" coming, $260.68 at DVD Empire

DVD Empire is carrying a listing for "X-Files: Ultimate Collection", with a release date of November 6th. List: $329.98, their price $260.68. No other information available except the UPC code, and a Google search comes up dry. I know there was an "Ultimate" set in the UK.

After buying all the sets at the sale price, I sure hope this is not true.

Even just the original sets (with bonus discs that were eventually dropped) in more compact packaging would be welcome and worth the price to me. Anything beyond that is candy...

why is it everytime there's a thread about an "ultimate set" someone must complain that he bought the seperate sets?! come on! there was and there WILL BE ultimate sets to ALL the major TV shows.X-files is huge so that was expected.

plus, i don't understand why is this thread is in the bargain section?! we all know 21% off the retailer price is NOT a bargain.

I agree.

First of all, you should be happy that you bought them all at a sale price. What about someone like me, who paid over $100 for EACH collector's edition when they first came out. At least you'll be dropping less than a grand on the show...unlike some of us.

Hell, I thought I got a GREAT deal when I bought them for $50 each. Oh well, I've certainly gotten my moneys worth.

Might as well just buy the separate sets at Costco for the price they want for this thing.

Why? You'd rather pay $260.68 for the same content you have already bought at a bargain price? (Under $90 right?)

Even if you paid $25 each for all nine seasons, that still just $225, so unless there is some extra content or a cool extra, I won't be kicking myself too hard (this time) for not waiting out the inevitable series set.

Oh I am not mad if this set comes out, I have been here long enough to know that these sets come out and that I have no reason to bitch that I already own them separately.

I just hope it is not true because knowing my sickness I am going to want it.

Sorry I was not trying to complaint.

I pricematched the thin sets at BB for $13 each with Fry's Roseville grand opening ad 3 months ago, figuring I could just sell them after watching them. That's about all they're worth to me, and I've only made it through season 1. I could never stand paying more than that, and I REALLY LIKE X-Files!

I paid $130 shipped for all 9 seasons with the buy one get one free deal combined with Google checkout a number of months back. I can't imagine anything that could be in the ultimate set that would get me to put down $260 for it.

I already have all of the original releases. The first 5 were various birthday/Christmas presents from the missus back when they were $100+, the rest I picked up as the prices dropped.

However, if this so called "Ultimate Edition" features the filing cabinet, keeps the discs the same and something else thrown in, then that coupled with the fact if the release date stays the same and a certain site has their sale, I MAY be tempted to pick it up and off set some of the cost by selling the ones I hev (provided the new release features at least the same material)

I'm hoping that they're working the "mythology" commentary tracks into the regular seasons, and not just repackaging the existing season discs and mythology discs together. Then they could fit the mythology documentaries on a single disc, instead of including sixteen discs of duplicate episodes.

I was lucky enough to buy every season for $10.

I waited until the seasons were priced at $20 and then I used my $10 off Fox coupon that I found on this site (thanks guys)

I bought the entire 9 season set for $90.

Plus, I bought the first 9 seasons (the only ones that matter)of the Simpsons and the first two seasons of The Family Guy for $10 per season with that same coupon.

20 seasons of the best tv programs ever for about $200. Normally I would have spent over $800

I'd like to add that I'm not some super dork that does nothing but watch tv programs, but at those prices what the hell?

So what kind of deals can be had on the season sets now? I own the first three seasons (from the original release when they were like 129$ a piece) but never filled out the run due to them being so ridiculously expensive.

Once in a while, a store will have them on sale for $19.99 apiece. I think it's already happened 2 or 3 times this year so look for it happen sometime soon.
