Terminator Special Edition ~$8 at Sam's Club (YMMV)
So I was in Sam's today and saw a few copies of The Terminator. Had a slipcover with Ah-nold on it. I decided to pull out the DVD case and see if it was the SE (no distinction on the slipcover). The first one wasn't, but for some reason I decided to check another. Score!
I've been trying to find the SE for a while now with little success. This was at the Sam's in Coral Springs, FL, by the way. Adam |
Had the same experience at Costco a couple of months ago. Checked about 25 copies and found 2 copies of the SE out of the batch. Coincidentally, I finished watching the movie last night and started on the extras last night! A real shame that the dropped them. I really was hoping/expecting that Fox would restore them on the lenticular reissue.

I happened to be in Sam's near me and didn't find a single copy of Terminator (SE or otherwise). Oh well, I have a copy but thought I might upgrade at the right price.

Sorry.. but what's the scoop with the Special Edition versus the Regular Edition (if there's such a thing) for Terminator?
|
The menus are beveled.

Despite their listing, Amazon has only had the regular (non-SE version) in stock for a long time. I speak from experience. The disc was a flipper with all special features on one side, and MGM converted it to a single-sided disc (but did not change the UPC), thereby dropping all of the special features.

What about Terminator and RoboCop combo?

^I own the Terminator/Robocop double-feature package (found it for $10 recently and figured the price was worth it).
Just to give you some info on it: The movies are in separate DVD slim DVD cases, which fit insde the usual cardboard slipcover. On the shelf, the package is the same size as a normal DVD case in a slipcover. Both movies have 1.85 anamorphic transfers but are 1-disc only, not special editions, minimal special features. |

ESPECIALLY when these two different versions (the original SE, and the newer stripped one) SHARE THE SAME UPC. And inventory systems can't know the difference What a headache. I hate those companies that can't be bothered to put a different UPC on different versions of their discs:( |

I'm pretty sure that I picked this up for $5-7 about a year ago at Best Buy or Target.

Got mine used, but managed to find one at another branch of the store I got it used from that had a corrected disc (whew) |

So basically, the dual-disc one is the SE and the single-sider is not? Other than that, the cover is the same and everything?

Terminator (SE) is on sale for 6.75 at buy.com right now. It's part of a sale that also includes titles like Alien, Aliens, Laura, Miller's Crossing, Edward Scissorhands, Fight Club, etc. I'm having trouble linking to it...but you should be able to find it...
Looks like most of those titles are either 5.00 or 6.75, although Miller's Crossing appears broken at the moment and is coming up as 9.32 when it should be 5.00. |
^ I wonder if it's actually the SE!
|
Well, it's kind of confusing since I think there are two different SE's, but it's this one:
http://dvdspot.com/dvd.php?d=1339709736 Is that the one you were thinking of? |
It's easy(underneath)
there is the original holifoil is a special edition and they stopped with those about half a year after and just had a regular special edition cover. same booklet inside just a different cover and back cover art. same extras. the new one(re-release) says MGM dvd and has no extras |

I checked the copies of The Terminator at the store, and they're all the regular edition. Doesn't personally affect me, since I bought the SE about 4 years ago. I'd like to see the SE get re-released (or even a 2-Disc version; I've never been crazy about double-sided discs). |
