Thanks! Can't beat 50 episodes of One Step Beyond for $6.58.

Note that DDD has very little information about what's actually on these sets. For complete details, check out http://www.millcreekent.com

Falc04 04-23-07 07:08 PM

Thanks...excellent price for the complete 1950s British series of Sherlock Homles.

bboisvert 04-23-07 07:26 PM

Has anyone seen the TV show Beyond Reality?
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0101046/

I've never even heard of it, but I'm considering a blind buy for $6.58.

EDIT: Ah, screw it. I'm seeing that Nicole de Boer is in the cast and Ira Steven Behr is listed as one of the writers. I'll take the plunge... I'm sure I'll get my six bucks worth.

An4h0ny 04-23-07 07:31 PM

haha.. Acapulco H.E.A.T.

wow

what a horrible show

i think i'll buy both seasons

Woah woah woah!! I didn't even REALIZE it was on DVD!

Probably a release like the Ray Bradbury theatre though
*shudder*
EDIT: yep. 22 episodes on 2 discs. Gross.

...but still...at that price...

Subgeniusguy 04-23-07 09:27 PM

hmm Essential Ernest, Maximum Ernest, or Ultimate Ernest which to choose. Seriously though, I did order the Drive-In Classics set although DDD gives the wrong list of movies in the set. Looks to have quite a bit of 1970's cheese and sleeze according to the list of films at Amazon. Could be fun or could be very painful. I'm willing to risk it for 13 bucks. The only title I know I've seen is Rattlers which had the scene with snakes in the bathtub. I saw this as a kid and was scared to take a bath for months. Since my dad ran a drive-in during that period, there may be a few others that jog my memory. I anticipate nothing but lousy, second rate full screen transfers though.

If anybody on this forum like the show The Adventures Of Ozzie And Harriet, you might want to get the Ozzie And Harriet set that's available during this sale from Deep Discount, Ozzie and Harriet Classics.

http://www.deepdiscount.com/Ozzie---...VVviewprod.htm

Its public domain quality episodes, but this is a 100 episode set ! Somebody at sitcomsonline.com posted the back cover for the set. The set in the cover scan is called "The Essential Ozzie & Harriet Collection", but look at the UPC code in the cover scan and compare it to the one listed on the Deep Discount page I posted, its the same set.

Don't get your O&H hopes up. I ordered it last week and got the 4 disc box.

jgorow 04-25-07 10:58 AM

I heard that in the public domain episodes of ozzie and harriet, that ricky nelson's music performances are editted out, this true???

I picked up a set from the mills creak sale that looks interesting, the full 1st season of a show about bounty hunters

Sadly, it is true. Some companies cut out Ricky's singing, I guess due to copyrights on the songs he sang. I have DVDs with episodes that have Ricky about to sing, but they just cut to the scene after the song. But not all companies cut the songs out. I have a few dollar store DVDs that keep the songs in.

As for the Mill Creek's 38 or 100 episode set in this Deepdiscount sale, I don't know. Somebody posted the list, and running time for each episode on the 38 episode set here:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...d.php?t=251656

And from the list of epissodes with Ricky singing posted here:

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/...ad.php?t=98976

At least 4 of the episodes should have Ricky singing.

Anyway, I ordered the set yesterday, I will check to see what episodes have him singing.

But I know the upcoming Ozzie & Harriet set from Shout! Factory will have episodes with Ricky singing.

BEWARE: How many of these have bugs in them?

I'm sure most of these have the dreaded burnt in bugs appearing in the lower right corner of the image. I got burned on the CULT CLASSICS set at the last DDD sale. I wouldn't take them for free because of this reason.

Why not just put them in a landfill if they can't be bothered to make some attempt to raise the bitrate / give them some digital cleanup / and eliminate the DAMNED bugs!!

Surely they can't be making any money at $6.58 each??? Hell, I'd gladly pay $65.80 for all of that content if it were PROPERLY cleaned up and bitrates were above the abyssmal 2 Mbits/sec it is. There are some great gems there, but it is a worthless endeavor buying this shovelware...

HE Pennypacker 04-25-07 07:07 PM

For nostalgic value, I'm considering Acapulco H.E.A.T. at that price.

Subgeniusguy 04-30-07 01:05 AM

Got my Drive-In Classics 50 movie collection from this sale. Low quality transfers as expected but for the money I'm not let down. It's definately a fine collection of 70's sleaze and cheese. So far I've watched Murder Mansion, Slave of the Cannibal God, Don't look in the Basement and now I'm watching Invasion of the Bee Girls which has a silly sci-fi premise and ample boobage. Wish it had higher bit-rates but for the money I think it's a worthwhile set. I might even be willing to get the MGM Midnite Movie edition of Bee Girls. One really odd thing is the ring label in the center of the discs often has the wrong title although the film matches what's on the sleeve.

trekker!!! 04-30-07 01:30 AM

I bought that 1950's Sherlock Holmes tv series set
that Falc04 mentioned, in the last 20% off sale that DD had.
One of the discs wouldn't load properly. DD made it right
and sent me another set, but 3 discs were bad.
1 wouldn't load and the other 2 had extensive
freezing up problems on playback. Hope that is
not widespread on other sets by Mill Creek.

docdoowop 04-30-07 04:15 AM

Must've been a bad run, trekker. My Sherlock set plays fine. I've also got three of the 50 movie packs and a couple of 20s and no problems.

Which ones do you have and do they have the burnt in bugs zyzzle refers to, and is it a distraction? It's not really a deal-breaker at that price, just wondering.

Subgeniusguy 04-30-07 07:11 AM

The drive-in set has the watermarks that appear ever so often. Didn't bother me. Helped me stay awake through some of these turkeys.

docdoowop 04-30-07 07:21 AM

My copies of "Mystery Classics", "Dark Crimes" and "War Classics" 50 packs don't have the Mill Creek bug in the lower right corner. However later pressings may have added it. "Burnt Rubber" and "Cult Classics" 20 movie packs *do* have the logo.

bboisvert 04-30-07 12:48 PM

Yes, I don't remember the exact timing of the logo addition, but a lot of the earlier sets do not have it. They started logo-ing about a year ago.

But, as mentioned, these sets are really about quantity and not quality. Personally, they don't bother me... at $13 for 50 movies, I know what I'm getting into. ;)
