...do they ship as each item becomes available or will i have to wait for my last pre-order to become available before receiving anything from the purchase?

All of their online coupons are one-time use.

There are some posts at http://www.retailmenot.com/view/borders.com that claim multiple uses of this code and/or applying it to multiple items in a single order.

dino88 07-17-08 07:30 PM

i just had a strange conversation with my local borders store. i called to ask how pre-orders are shipped (as they become available or as one shipment when all items in order are available) and a different woman got on the phone and told me that they are not taking pre-orders. she said they are only taking pre-orders on 2 books ("twilight" and ?). i said i am ordering dvds and she was quite rude and said "that doesn't matter, we are not taking pre-orders". quite confused right now. has anyone here pre-ordered through borders.com before? why would the site have pre-orders if you cannot pre-order???? and i have no idea why her tone was so angry and rude. ?????????????

For the 40% coupon, it automatically applied to 2 items on my cart. And allowed for in-store pickup on a pre-order. However it seemed like a 3rd item did not get automatically deducted the 40%. Only did one order, so I don't know about more than 1. Another possible YMMV experience? Good luck!

That's odd--this code does seem to take 40% off two items!

The in-store staff you spoke to probably were just confused and baffled by your request, since the only in-store pre-orders (so far) are for the major book releases in the coming months (as in heavily promoted titles that will sell several hundred copies per store). They may not have necessarily been briefed too thoroughly about the site, but I'm sure that will change soon enough. If you have certain questions about the website's policies, why not e-mail or contact the site directly? The pre-order option is pushed quite heavily on the website, so I wouldn't worry too much about your item not showing up.

From personal experience, I don't think the B&M's have any clue about their online store. I had placed an order online to ship-to-store and had to wait 20min while 3 people figured out how to check the order out (mgr included). I guess they'll get up to speed eventually.

It can still be so darn frustrating to try to get a good deal at Borders. For example, I added Ratatouille and Apocalypto blu-rays to my cart, enter the 40% off coupon, and the final price is $44 plus tax for the 2 (it did take 40% off each). So it would come to probably $23 a disc, which just doesn't cut it for me. Their insistence on starting with msrp kills so many deals, especially on blu-rays, where the msrp's are so high. Oh well, just venting.

i completely agree with jeffrey r...i had 3 books in my cart, with the 40% and $5 off coupons attached and working. went to checkout to see the total with tax and then checked amazon for a price match. the borders order was only 1.60 less. quite ridiculous pricing if you ask me. for me to order through a company for the first time it will take a very good deal, i don't think saving 1.60 is going to do that.
on another note, my previous order of dvds would not go through. i kept getting a message that read "not available at this time" when trying to check out. this is why i wanted to try it with the book order and it went through, but in the end ordered nothing. thanks borders, you're looking good...good thing you split with amazon.

I tried to place an order this morning but when ever I clicked on an item it would tell me that "this feature is temporarily unavailable". What good is a website if it's only feature (clicking on items to add to cart to purchase) is unavailable.

I gave it another go after work and it seemed to work, the coupons as well, but I don't think I'll be shopping there too often. The prices are rarely ever worth it and if the site isn't going to work then what is the point? If I wasn't actually getting a deal, I wouldn't have bothered.

On a semi-related note; can I change the email address that is attached to a Borders Rewards card, or should I just get a new card? I signed up for the Rewards card some years ago and must have used another e-mail address to avoid getting to many e-mails or something.

n.phelge 07-18-08 09:32 PM

Inglorious Bastards 3-disc set for $14.40 - thanks for the heads-up on the coupon.

Doc Moonlight 07-18-08 09:48 PM

I was able to order HOT SUMMER (East German Socialist Teen Rock 'n' Roll Musical from the 70's, has to be seen to be believed) for $16. I wanted to order it from DD during the 20% off sale, but they no longer stock it. Lists for $29.95. Website said it would ship to the store in 4-8 weeks, but it is already on it's way. So far, so good.

Scattershot 07-19-08 02:51 AM

So when I try to place An order, I add my items to cart, Add the coupon code, Go through all the way to the final Check out page before submitting order, Click the button to order, and it kicks me back to the payment page saying my personal information or payment info is incorrect, which it isn't. So I click through again, and when I click to place the order then it says that they can't take my order at that time, to try again later.

Anyone have a clue why its doing this?

dino88 07-20-08 02:05 PM

maybe someone can help me. i need to cancel part of an order i placed, but don't want to cancel the entire order just in case the coupon doesn't work again. i cancelled the same dvd from buy.com a week before, but now get an email saying it has been shipped (? funny seeing as i cancelled quite early and tv funhouse isn't even released until this coming tuesday ???). so now i just want to cancel it from borders so i don't have to go through any hassle of returning it and waiting for a refund. any help?

Arpeggi 07-20-08 02:09 PM

I'd like to help you but the site is so fucked up, it's ridiculous.

kyle 07-20-08 02:23 PM

On the borders web site says you cannot cancel orders--but says you can just return it to a store and they give you a refund as a borders gift card.

hindolio 07-20-08 09:09 PM

i actually got an order to go all the way through fine (on internet explorer, even). however, the next day i received an email stating that the order was cancelled. yay.

RequiemX 07-20-08 09:23 PM

I ordered MST3K vol 11 for only $31 shipped by using the 40% coupon. Good deal.

Would be a better deal w/o sales tax, but oh well.

jmu878 07-21-08 02:20 PM

zoran009 07-21-08 03:27 PM

Ordered Saturday. Shipped today (Monday).

Pretty smooth once you get past the buggiest site on the net.

bookcase3 07-22-08 03:23 PM

I just used the 40% coupon to get Mummy and Mummy Returns for $17.39 each (+ tax). Beats all other B&M stores and Amazon.

It all depends what you order. Last night I ordered:

Cannibal Lunch Box Triple Feature
Grindhouse Psychos: Triple Feature
The Case of the Bloody Iris

For $29.63 shipped. The prices for each disc were a buck or so less than Amazon - BEFORE COUPONS. They would have been $48.97 shipped from Scamazon. That's close to $20 saved on a $30 order. I also placed a similar second order for identical savings.

Thanks, all!
