Got mine online this morning to pick up in store. Thanks for the heads up!

darkside 02-13-07 05:58 PM

I had bad luck. I ordered the correct version and it was correctly printed on the receipt, but they pulled the standard DVD version instead. When I got to the store I was unable to get a copy because they had completely sold out. Not only that, but every store in town is sold out since they only shipped 3 copies of the HD DVD version to every store compared to 15 copies of the Blu-ray.

So basically no soup for me unless I want to pay the shipping cost from Best Buy.

I would make the in-store manager order you a copy.

He wouldn't even talk to me. I asked for him and was told he was busy and I should call the customer service since it was an online order. They were equally disinterested in my problem, but did offer to send me a copy for an additional $2.99 shipping. I asked them why they didn't have a guarantee like Circuit City has on in store pick up orders and they said it is because they never have issues with them. I'm apparently the first order they have ever screwed up.

Not the end of the world. I can pay a buck more and get it at Amazon.

fujishig 02-13-07 07:23 PM

Normally when an in-store pickup is out of stock, you get it shipped from bestbuy.com for free. I'm pretty sure you have to call online customer service, though.

hotwls13 02-13-07 07:39 PM

WTH?? I just went to my Best Buy to exchange this for the Steelcase I bought earlier today, and it rang up full price. I come back here and check it on the internet and it's still $22.99?? What's going on here? Will they price match there own website if I take in a printout or show it to them on their Kiosk machine? I don't even have a HD DVD player, but I figure this is the better deal for the future.

Also, who was saying Amazon is only $1 more? it's coming up $27.99 for me.

laserdogg 02-13-07 07:48 PM

All 3 of my Best Buys sold out of the HD version - barely ended up getting a PM at Walmart as they only had 2 copies.

Did grab the 2 Disc Steelbook at BB though.....it was too cool to pass up.

Mine was actually cheaper, but normally with the 10% discount it's $25.15.

Flynn 02-13-07 07:56 PM

Ordered it online for pickup this morning as soon as I saw this thread. Went in and of course they hadn't pulled it yet. The lady went to look for it - and brought back the steel case. I told her that was incorrect, that I wanted the HD-DVD version. She had no idea what I was talking about. She called someone on a walkie and then wandered off again. I got several dirty looks from all the customers standing in the customer service line. Finally she returned with the correct disc and charged me the $22 price.

It's ALWAYS a hassle to do in store pickup at Best Buy, but at least I got in on this. Thanks so much OP.

Yeah, a single call should clear this up. I've done it at least 4 times. My store always screws up.

What's this magic 10% discount you speak of.

Also, I just got off the phone with the Media Guy at BB. He said he would match the online price and I am going back tonight to pickup my HD-DVD for $22.99 :) I had to go to the Grocery Store anyway.

I didn't even know about this Hd-DVD/DVD thing until reading this thread. I will keep an eye out for these in the future. I know eventually my DVD collection will go the way of the Dodo, so buying next gens that I can watch now is nice.

Its the Amazon 10% deal where last month (not sure if its still going on), if you ordered one a single order, 3 or more HD-DVDs or BluRay moveis, you would get 10% off all year of your HD-DVD or BluRay movies purchase... well worth it, i havent taken advatage of my 10% off yet, but i certainly will soon enough

Hmm, they didn't offer me free shipping when I called. I would have definitely been happy with that. I went ahead and sent an email about it. Who knows maybe they will offer to ship it free.

Got very lucky today at Best Buy. I ordered The Departed HD and Steelbook dvd yesterday night with in-store pickup. The girl at customer service gave me both items, but only made me sign for the HD-DVD. The dvd still shows I haven't picked it up. Guess I'll go ahead and cancel that order. I get to keep the steelbook and watch the Scorsese doc which the HD versions are missing.

dvdrules 02-14-07 12:10 AM

I got the last copy my local BB had. They had a sticker in front though with the $22.99 price, so I assume all of the stores should have it for that price as well.

bdhart 02-14-07 12:44 AM

My Best Buy had the $22.99 advertised and they had plenty of copies of the HD and the BD. But I price matched it at Circuit City for $21.79.

Cameron 02-14-07 12:49 AM

mine was sold out, but the manager gave me a rain check to get it for that price next week. oddly enough the raicheck printed out for 34.99 so he wrote in the price and signed it, as well as the customer service manager

ScottsDvds 02-14-07 01:02 AM

It's no longer $22.99... It was fun while it lasted.

So basically what you are saying is you knowingly took the Steelcase without paying for it? Personally I wouldn't have done that, nor bragged about it here.

Big Worms 02-14-07 10:25 AM

Damn deal is dead! :(

That price still stand in store, as long as you can find yourself a copy. My local BB (#555) gave me a rain check for it.

Didn't realize it until I got home. Of couse I'm sure you would have brought it back to them.

Your original statement sounded to me like you knew what was going on in-store (you knew you placed two separate orders). Then when you got home, you got online to doublecheck.

As far as me bringing it back to them, it wouldn't have happened in the first place. I know when I go into BestBuy how many orders I placed and how many receipts i should get. Just yesterday I went to pickup two separate orders of a Superman and Clark Kent figure. She tried to give me an extra Superman cause it was sitting by my orders. I showed her that it wasn't mine.

I'm a cheap ass all the way (that's why I'm here), but I don't cheat either.

I don't want to turn this into a pissing match, It just bothers me to see people brag about such things.

OK, I'm off my soapbox now. :)

If you honestly didn't notice it, please disregard my comments.

Yeah, no worries man. I hate to hijack this thread, and I usually don't brag about such things, but I just had to stick it to Best Buy on this one because they've screwed me over so much in the past. I really didn't notice this one because I was already frustrated about a return I was trying to make. The girl kept trying to refund the purchase to a gift card and I just wanted my CC credited. She had to get her supe over twice and I could already hear the grumbling from the line forming behind me. If anything, I was just happy they pulled the right copy for my HD-DVD order. Seems like a lot of posters got screwed on that one.

zekeburger1979 02-14-07 05:28 PM

I talked to the manager of the DVD department at store #464 (Wilson Ave. in Grand Rapids, Michigan). He told me that the $22.99 price is correct and that since they were already sold out of them, they were going to give rain checks for that price. He thought it was kind of odd that the HD version was $23, but not the Blu-Ray version.
