Punch-Drunk Love (Two Disc Special Edition) $5.99 at Best Buy

Just got back from Best Buy and saw they had the Punch-Drunk Love (Two Disc Special Edition) on sale for $5.99. This was not in this weeks ad, so I thought I'd post it for anyone interested.

Arpeggi 02-11-07 11:50 AM

It's also online. Thanks for the tip.

HE Pennypacker 02-11-07 11:50 AM

This'll most likely be a YMMV situation.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll check it out.

Cane Dewey 02-11-07 02:40 PM

I just bought this in a lot on Ebay, so I'm a little peturbed to say the least.

To say the least indeed, you forgot the 'r.' ;)

mifuneral 02-11-07 03:17 PM

At that price, no one has an excuse not to give this great film a chance!

eisenreich 02-11-07 03:48 PM

Thanks for the heads-up OP, picked up the last one on the shelf.

VALUEMAN 02-11-07 03:59 PM

Is it really that good? It sounds really weird.

This deal is confirmed at the Orange, CT. Best Buy store.

GReat Find OP! Thanks...............

Arpeggi 02-11-07 04:07 PM

The deal is available ONLINE. It's not YMMV, just buy it online and pick it up at your store.

IMO, the most "thrilling" experience I have ever had film-wise was watching this movie. I was on pins and needles the entire time. The film is somewhat "weird" but that's what makes it really good.

Thanks for your response. I bit. It was just too good a deal to pass up and the other reviews that I read said that it was decent, just weird.

Anyway, you gotta love a guy who amasses all those frequent flyer miles by eating pudding! In honor of that, I went thru the CO airlines portal to earn 2 FF miles per/$1 spent on the purchase! :)

FangsFirst 02-11-07 08:13 PM

It is weird as hell, but in a good way.
I'd already bitten on it at 9.99 when it first showed up at BB at that price.

Which also means this 5.99 shouldn't be TOO surprising (only a $4 price difference for their normal 2 disc price)

J-Dubya 02-11-07 09:54 PM

one of my favorites, im a big PTA fan though

J-Dubya 02-11-07 10:09 PM

Adaptation is also part of this sale

Adaptation I picked up in my WM's 2 for $11 bin, YMMV.

FangsFirst, I am confused. This is the 2 Disc edition, right? DVDpricesearch.com indicates that many of the stores sell this for around $20+ and that even Best Buy sells it normally for $26.99.

Sorry, I am having trouble reproducing the dvdpricesearch link for some reason, but if you input it you would see what I mean.

So, how is it that it normally sells for $9.99? I thought I was getting a great bargain, similar to last week's CE of Titanic for $6.99. Not so? I am really confused, now.

devilshalo 02-12-07 12:19 AM

Thanks! Been looking to pick this up for a while now.

Peep 02-12-07 12:32 AM

Thanks, OP. Selected in-store picked and used Visa (instead of my store credit or rewards points) just in case it's the wrong version. Definately worth a trip to the store just in case.

PopcornTreeCt 02-12-07 12:37 AM

Shame on anyone that doesn't own it already!

Well, I guess this could be YMMV, but my store *always* stocks the 2 disc at 9.99.
I bought it at that price thinking it was an accident months ago. I saw the 5.99 display today though, and they all had normal 9.99 stickers on them.

I think (my memory is hazier here though) that shortly after I bought it, they got a new copy or two in and then, too, it was 9.99.

So if it IS a weird fluke, it's an awfully persistent one...

EDIT: also, there's plenty of out of date info on price search...and currently BB doesn't list their 'normal' price--just "list" (28.96? I don't think so...) and the current sale price.

EDIT 2: heh, and yes, to be clear, I DO mean the 2 disc for sure. I pretty much refuse to buy a 'secondary' version of a film, just in case I later feel the desire for a bigger one (if it's not ultra important, I wait for a cheap price on the fancy shmancy edition, but still aim for the fancy shmancy all the same).
More to the point, I haven't even *seen* the single disc in AGES...and I can't recall seeing it at this Best Buy since I started paying attention around the time I bought it (9/16/06)---ONLY the 2 disc has been there since then, and as best I recall priced at 9.99 only, minus sales like this.

gotrice487 02-12-07 01:33 AM

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out some time this week

Thanks for the info. Maybe your store has some sort of unadvertised special.

In any event, I should get confirmation tomorrow.

It's a Superbit. Most Superbits have been $9.99 at Best Buy for ages...

Great film, but I'm biased (PTA geek).

Is it really that good? It sounds really weird.
actually, no.
but give sheeple a low price on something, whether they need it or not, and rest assured they will leave work early to purchase it.
