I didn't think I was going to order anything, but then I caved and bought 3rd Rock from the Sun: Season 6 and Astro Boy. Thankfully that's all I wanted from this sale.

Few tempting DVDs in there ..
Nothing I really need though. Might see if DVD Planet has the sale to save an extra $10

In light of the fact I paid a total of about $126 for all six seasons, I'd agree.

I would really like the Wim Wenders set, but there isn't anything else I want (I already have the Herzog one from last time).

is the Wim Weners Set good or is too "art house"?

What about the following:
1.British War Collection
2.Carry On Collection
3.Alec Guiness Collection
4.Ealing Comedy Collecton

Am think about the "Highlander" series as blind buy but DVDtalk rates the sries of as "rent" it only, so maybe not that good

I may pay up the entire Threes Company

I picked up a few seasons of Three's Company.

I thought I'd heard the Roseanne DVDs are syndication cut - can anyone verify this?

The Alec Guinness collection is brilliant, and makes a fine companion piece to the Peter Sellers collection.

I don't own these but I recall that was the case with the 1st season. On "Larry King Live", when these were initially released, Roseanne was a guest and a caller commented about them being the syndicated versions. I'm not sure how subsequent seasons were handled.

I love Carry On but I am hopeful that we may get a better version soon. That is I know some places in catalogs offering collections that are to be released in March but I do not see these at any online store except from amazon sellers and they have been doing boots of these there for some time. A Complete Carry On was released in the UK a few months ago, more complete than this set with 13 films on 7 discs. The Complete UK set has 30 films plus Carry On Laughing, commentary and other special features. If you do import, get that.

You should probably only get the Wenders set if you already really like Wenders. The selection is kind of spotty as it includes a bunch of random documentary stuff he did that most people don't really care about. All in all, I would say it is pretty inaccessible, unless you already like Wenders. Make sure you see at least Paris, Texas and Wings of Desire before you see anything in that set.

Thanks for the tip. Looks like I will skip the Wenders collection altogether. May get the British War Collection and Ealing Comedy Collection as well as Alec Guiness and Peter Sellers.

What do you guys think about pairing the Werner Herzog Collection and the Evil Dead 1/2 set? These would be total blind buy for me. Are Herzog's movie any good or they too art house. I read some good reviews onthe movies evil dead but why does the set have such a high MSRP of $70 for two old horror movies. The set itself has only two disc for the movies and no other disc with more special features.

I have the Herzog set. Though if you're openly worried about something being "too art house", it may be (for you). The Herzog/Kinski set is the one that I would highly recommend to Herzog neophytes. Don't know if that one is included in the sale. "Aguirre" and "Fitzcaraldo" are flat-out masterpieces that can be enjoyed by anyone who likes quality filmmaking. Other movies in the set are good-to-great as well. And the "My Best Fiend" documentary is fantastic.

However, the other Herzog set ... I don't think I'd have people start there. This is Herzog at his strangest and most enigmatic. "Even Dwarves" will test the patience of many viewers. "Heart of Glass" is a strange story that feels like everyone in the cast is hypnotized ... wait a minute, everyone in the cast really is hypnotized The documentaries are beautiful and hypnotic, but I can see where they would bore others to death. "Strozcek" is probably the most accessible movie, but it too gets really strange by the end
Spoiler:
such as Herzog's lengthy fascination with a dancing chicken (though I must admit, I found the little guy oddly compelling as well).

You never saw "Evil Dead"? Not much of a horror fan? These are pretty much staples. Damn, makes me feel old to here movies from the mid 80's called "old". If you don't like gore, or care for humor with your horror, they won't be your thing though. I agree, the MSRP seems way too high. These aren't even the newer "Book of the Dead" versions. DDD lists them separately for $11.99 each, but the 2-pack for $41.99? And according to the listings, the 2-pack doesn't include anything extra that the single releases don't have.

From what i can see it is the double book version. The image does match but it says "Double Book" and it also matches the Double Book MSRP and UPC.

Yeah, I guess it probably is that version (the Anchor Bay "double-book"). DDD frequently jumbles up DVD editions. That price for the older versions just sounded wrong.

1st season only. The rest contain the unedited episodes. From what I read, you can thank Roseanne herself for getting this corrected after S1. She was pissed about S1. Not sure how true that is...
