(Dead) Forbidden Planet Ultimate Collector's Edition $24.99 at Amazon.com
As of 01/04/2007 the sale looks to be over and the price back up to normal. Could a moderator please mark the thread accordingly.
Hope everyone who wanted the set got in on the deal even if it wasn't quite the "steal" that some of Amazon's other deals have been.
_______________
If you didn't get this already, Amazon's got a heck of a deal going on. Of course you'll need to find something cheep to qualify for free shipping.

I like the movie. Saw it years ago on AMC. However, I am paying extra for that plastic toy, the tin box, and those cards which means nothing to me. hmmm.......should I get it? considering that I paid $15 each for the 4 disc Ben Hur and Gone With The Wind sets, this doesn't seem too good of a bargain.

See, this is the kind of sale that I was referring to. Picked up Planet along with Season Three of Arrested Development for 44 bucks. Thanks OP! If someone needs a title to go over 25 for the free shipping, 28 Days Later is $7.49 - 50% off.

Hope this makes sense...it's a relatively simple concept but strangely hard to describe for some reason (maybe because it's 7:13 A.M.).
BTW...did anyone else find it funny when one person described this Amazon deal as a "steal"? If you don't get the allusion, don't ask...and consider yourself lucky.
And thanks, OP...sounds like a good price on Forbidden Planet.

wow, the price has increased unexpectedly. that's the thing with many items at amazon, you never know when the prices will go up.
If you want the movie, then you can still just get the movie only version for $20

IMHO, this thing is not worth $40. You are paying extras for that tin, the colorful cards(does anyone know if the cards are of different pictures are just multiple cards of the same pictures), and three inch plastic toy. At that price, I would pass it in a heartbeat. When it was $25, I was already ambivalent about getting it. I like the movie and the extra movie it includes along with the special features but paying all that money for the other stuffs is not worth it.
I was going to get just the movie version for $20 but when the price was $25 for this set, I said what the heck I will get this collector's edition and so I paid the extra $5 for the that colorful little tin and the rest of paraphenelia in it. It would look nice on my dvd shelf. Yet, I am still having second thought about the purchase. Maybe, this sort of thing has more value to someone who grew up in the fifties and having that tin, the toy, and all those cards somehow evoke all the nostalgia of yesteryears. Those little trinkets does nothing for me.
