Another interesting tidbit about the Super35 3-perf 16:9 frame is that several films are also shooting in the format nowadays, mostly films that'll crop Super35 to 2.35:1 for the final image:

Films like Kill Bill and Lucky number Slevin have used it. It saves them 25% of film-length while still allowing the image to be "opened up" to fill a WS TV frame. Lionsgate somewhat controversially did this when they released the film Creep on DVD.

Just a FYI but I was able to get the old foldout edition for Season 8 at my local BB for 19.99. It originally rang up 41.99 but I simply told her that it was supposed to be 19.99. I really didn't realize there was a difference. I like the sets to all look the same and all the otther sets are the foldout style. Most of mine were purchased for $90-$100 so $20 is a steal.

Of course YMMV.

I was able to get the old foldout style for Seasons 8 & 9 at my BB for 19.99 today, but I had to get a manager to override the 41.99 price. I got Seasons 1-7 about 3 years ago from all of my family members for my birthday at about $100 per season. I've watched them all several times and it's my favorite TV show so I'm not sorry. Anyone who doesn't have these season sets yet, though, they're a steal at 19.99 each! I've been waiting for 8 & 9 to be cheap for quite a while. I'm glad I've finally got them and they all match!

I tried to get the old sets at BB for the $19.99 but no deal. I didn't get a manager involved though. This pricing differnce issue for these sets sucks.

Is there any DVD store online that has the series on sale? I remember Amazon was having a sale of each slim-set season for $19.99, but that's gone for now. I regret not having purchased the series then.

After being out for a few years I thought for sure that Fox would put together the ultimate X-Files box set with all 9 seasons, the movies and maybe even the spin-off shows (Lone Gunman especially). I still think they will release a great LE box set...

Isolated deleted scenes, episode promos, featurettes from FX, and interviews with the cast and crew, from the effects folk up through Chris Carter (at-filming and retrospective).

I'm pretty extras-happy, so I may not be the best source for how 'worth it' they are.

I Netflixed the bonus discs. They are actually pretty neat. I particularly enjoyed Chris Carter's comments on selected individual episodes. The promo stuff was also a hoot in a nostalgic way - has it been 10 years already?

Not sure that I would pay a premium for the old sets, but if you can snag 'em for close to $20 then it's a no-brainer.

What spin-off shows are there other than Lone Gunmen?

Millennium wasn't really a spin-off like The Lone Gunmen. They did have a Frank Black episode on the X-Files after Millennium had been cancelled.

I saw the Collectors seasons at my Costco today for $23.99 each. Sadly, I am currently putting up my 9 sealed thinpak seasons on ebay soon. I need the cash and I know it will be forever (if ever) before I find the time to watch 9 seasons of anything. My dvd backlog is just crazy.

Yeah, I should have been more clear. I was just referring to shows created by the same crew: CC, Glen Morgan etc.

Yeah "Millennium" was definitely not a spinoff. There were two high-profile CROSSOVERS (Jose Chung on "Millennium" and Frank & Jordan Black on "The X-Files") but when the show began there was no in-show connection to "The X-Files", those connections came later. There were also several minor, more "in-jokey" crossovers like Mulder & Scully visible in the background of FBI headquarters in one episode (in reality it was DD and GA's photo doubles), Peter Watts finding a Morley stub in Millennium Group headquarters, the same actor playing J. Edgar Hoover in FBI flashback episodes on both shows, etc.

Yeah, I should have been more clear. I was just referring to shows created by the same crew: CC, Glen Morgan etc.
I would really only count shows produced by Chris Carter's Ten Thirteen productions, and there were only four: "The X-Files", "Millennium", "Harsh Realm" and "The Lone Gunmen".

There were many notable people like Morgan & Wong and Frank Spotnitz that went on to make very Ten Thirteen-ish shows but that opens a huge can of worms because "X-Files" writers, producers and directors winded up working on practically every sci-fi drama on television.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was referring to. I wasn't referring to the bad movies that were made by some of the writers. I should have thought out my post a little more I guess.
