Looks like they changed the google checkout button to no longer say the $10 off $30. Seems like it may only be little time left....

I just placed a couple more orders though.

Yeah. I just put in two more orders (11:35pm PST). I've lost track of what I've ordered.

I got another order through and when I went to checkout a second time I almost clicked through before I realized that the discount line was gone. It looks DEAD.

The google bonus off deal is dead and I am glad it is finally over. I don't think google will ever have another offer like it again.

If there's no special being offered, will you still use Google checkout when shopping at DVD Planet?
I can't really see any advantage for regular shoppers on the site, so I will not.

Indeed, right now GCO is just a copy-cat of Microsoft's Passport crapfest. MS even ran similar promotions during the holidays for a few years, trying to bribe people into creating accounts by giving away free money if you made purchases using your passport account at select online merchants. They didn't get anywhere.

They need to take on Paypal directly by duplicating the stuff paypal does, for cheaper and then adding functionality beyond Paypal (which has really stagnated with their monopoly position).

Well I spent way too much using google on various sites. I actually had accounts on most of the sites already, but I did like the convenience of google checkout. Unless I can get rewards using a site specific log-in, I'd gladly continue using this service.

I agree.

Now I only have to remember my gmail account info (which I use all the time anyway) to get one login for DVDPlanet, Buy.com and DVDEmpire. That and only go to Google Checkout for one summary of all these transactions. I only hope that others like DDD join in.

Can the service be better? Absolutely but it looks like a good start to me.

I second that. I went thru my purchase history and since Nov. I've placed WAY too many orders -- but on the other hand at least I saved a bunch while I did so!

I agree I doubt we'll see anything quite like it again. Maybe next Christmas they'll bring back some variation -- even $5 off $20 would be welcome!

Meh, this could show up again next month. This all started with a $10 off $20 deal I believe, but that deal died. Then, weeks or months later, we got the $10 off $30, and then finally the $20 off $50.

It wouldn't shock me at all to see one of these deals come back sometime soon, but then again I wouldn't hold off buying things that you really want just because of the possibility of it.

I really do expect this deal to reappear somewhere useful pretty soon. It was listed at DVDEmpire for a couple weeks in Oct. then disappeared and I asked Google if they were thinking of offering it again there. They never replied but within 10-14 days the incentive was offered again at Empire. I think the Google is intent on eroding Paypal's base and that means some kind of incentive will be offered in the not too distant future. In the meantime start saving up!

Their site's been weird like this for days. Maybe it's their way of giving their employees a holiday. By the way- the Google incentive is over but I posted (#53- p.3) the new codes in the Coupons for DVDPlanet thread.

Hi all,

I have a seriously problem with DVDPlane and Google. I placed an ordered by mistake back in December. I called google 10 minutes later and spoke with customer service to have the order removed. He removed the order. The checkout was made with google and the order still show a status of in processing to this date. All my other orders with google at DVDPlanet have shipped awhile ago. I have contacted google multiple times to get the money refunded but have been not successful. I have contacted DVDPlanet multiple times to help get the money refuned but have not been successful. One email DVDPlanet said to take it up with Google to get money refunded since they made the charge. In the emails, I ask DVDPlanet to please tell google that I have canceled but no luck yet. Today I got email from DVDPlanet saying the order was already shipped and I need to return it to get refund. This is absolutely not true. The order was cancelled 10 minutes after it was placed and it was never shipped. I have an account at DVDPlanet and all orders shipped will bear that record. I don't understand how they can say it was shipped.

At this point, I am very angry and frustrated. I will now proceed to place a dispute with my credit card company for the charges.

What I want to know is, is there anything else I can do. I feel like the victim of big joke and FRAUD. Is there someway to get these two companies be punished in some legal way for something like this??

Dude, I understand your frustration and I'm sure that Google and Vendors need to get some kinks worked out but I strongly object to the word "Fraud" tossed around in capital letters. That's uncalled for.

I don't doubt they messed up but so did you. I don't understand your logic of working through Google rather than directly with the group that is going to process the order, particularly when you have an account with them. Google's just the financial transaction portion of this.

When you saw the order still processing that might have been a wakeup call that nothing with the CSR did anything.

"Today I got email from DVDPlanet saying the order was already shipped and I need to return it to get refund. This is absolutely not true. The order was cancelled 10 minutes after it was placed and it was never shipped. "

How do you know the order wasn't shipped? Because you cancelled it? Just because you thought it was cancelled doesn't mean it was. That and you already admitted the order status stayed active. Point being that it MAY have shipped.

NO THE ORDE WAS NEVER SHIPPED!

All orders shipped at DVDPlanet shows up in your DVDPlanet account even if you check out with google

The order was placed on December 6, 2006. I have placed multiple orders with dvdplanet using google and many orders were placed well after Decembe 6 and I have got them all.

I have the exact DVDPlanet and Google order number for this order on December 6, 2006. I don't understand how they can say it is shipped. I never got the order and my account record with google and DVDPlanet clearly show it was never shipped. DVDPlanet claim that they shipped the order on December 19, 2006 and I logged into my account at DVDPlanet and copy and paste all the orders shipped on December 19, 2006 and send it in an email to them. They respond by email saying I need to return the item to get refund when I have clearly shown them the record that the order was never shipped. It was canceled before it was shipped.

I even emailed them a copy of the google receipt for the order bearing the transaction date of December 6, 2006 and it clearly says it is in processing.

What is happening is that the order was canceled at DVDPlaent in the first place. DVDPlanet has the record that it was canceled and never shipped and I show them a copy of that from y account record with them. They refuse to give me the refund. The money has been charged through google. The order was canceled and google has taken my money.

I can not believe these people. This is a freaking NIGHTMARE. I had placed an order at www.buy.com before using google checkout and I have canceled without a problem. At www.buy.com I logged into the account on line and place a cancellation request. Then buy.com notify google the order is canceled and I am never charged. Why can't the same thing happen at DVDPlanet.

WHAT I WANT MOST RIGHT NOW IS FOR GOOGLE AND DVDPLANET TO BE LEGALLY FINED IN SOME MANNER. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. If this is giving you "NIGHTMARES" over the $20-30 lost order then your outlook is misplaced. Life is much too valuable to get too worked up over this sum. If you can't get it resolved then dispute the charge with your credit card.

On another note: I sent Google an e-mail about future offers.

"Thank you for your email. We look forward to offering a variety of
promotions in the future, so please check back soon!
Please feel free to reply to this email if you have any additional
questions.
Sincerely,
Michel
The Google Checkout Team"

I was wondering if there are any plans in the near future to once again
offer any Google incentive (i.e. $10 off $30) for online purchases and if
so, where?
