Thanks There is a middle shelve that when you put it together has to be there so you can't move that one. The other shelves are all movable. I stacked most of my dvd's upright with the spine facing out, but either shelve around the main one in the middle I had to lay the dvd's on their side with the spine facing out to maximise the space. Well, this is disappointing. I am really noticing a LOT of price increases from yesterday on TV Season DVD sets. Scrubs S4, Lost S2, and many many others.
I spent $1.5k last spring on this sale, and almost $2k the last two years at DDD. I have at least $3k in my wishlist, probably half of which I was going to purchase... but if this trend continues, or doesn't reverse itself... I'll have to seriously reconsider. And I am a HUGE DDD fan. |

I have over 1500 dvds and a couple hundred video games. I'm looking for some pretty nice storage units/shelves for them. Can anyone vouch for the value on the expensive storage units that ddd has? Such as these? Can anyone recommend anything better or cheaper or even perhaps the same thing at a cheaper site? Thanks for everything.

I'm doubting Cars will jump, since it was released this week. It should keep the release week pricing. The other titles were released a while back and are just be bumped back up to "normal" levels. It's just like buy.com used to do during their free shipping weekends. Of course I don't know for sure, I'm just guessing... |

Ellen: Season 4 - yesterday 24.xx --- today, 29.xx
Simpsons: Season 8 (regular box) - 29.xx ---- 38.xx My Name Is Earl: Season 1 - 31.xx ---- 36.xx Everybody hates Chris: season 1 - 31.xx --- 32.xx Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 5 - 20.xx --- 28.xx I don't plan on getting most of these now, maybe EHC and Ellen, but that just makes me angry. At least raise the prices a few weeks ahead... it makes it less of a scam. As it is, the price of MNIE isn't much better than bestbuy's, and at least they have the collectible earl flannel! How did we complain last year to get them to drop the prices back to a more reasonable level? As it stands I'm a little annoyed, considering how angry everyone got last year... I felt they might not do that again. |

LE Star wars 19.11 to 24.98, Empire and Jedi haven't gone up yet, but probably will. :(
Also, fyi, when buying new releases on the 14th, I've noticed that sometimes it's better to wait until later in the day on Tuesday or Wednesday to order b/c sometimes ddd lowers the price of new releases to pricematch with other retailers competing on release week. Happened w/ beavis vol. 2 if i remember from one of the other sales. |
Yes, sadly, I have just gone through a fairly comprehensive list - MUCH of what I would have saved by this 20% has been eliminated.
DDD is now significantly higher than competitor's pricing on many TV season DVDs (Compare to Amazon, and Amazon is far cheaper on many). It is pretty clear that they are not responding to regular price fluctuations, but adjusting competitive pricing to compensate for the sale. I have (had) a huge order waiting to go. I have written Customer Service and hope that the gentleman from DDD is still reading this board; Please consider the price increase in the last day will have a serious effect on our goodwill towards what has always been an 'event' in the DVD community. At this point, my wishlist will remain just that, and I would encourage others, whose pricings have been effected, to hold their orders as well. DDD is a great company, and I will continue to do business with them in the future, as they have always treated me extremely well. I hope I will be able to during this sale... but for now, I must decline. |

Some of the titles mentioned as having their prices going up are part of sales that are ending today -- Ellen was part of the A&E 50% off sale; The Conan set was part of a 37% off Universal sale. The end dates have been posted for weeks, and indeed people deduced the start date for the 20% off sale based on them.

Strangers With Candy (Thinkfilm) ;)
hehe Longrun, I agree I have already placed a few orders with buy.com because they are beating ddd but a HUGE margin. (sometimes 5-7 dollars an item) It's just annoying that they took something that was beneficial for THEM and got greedy with it. I don't consider lowering the prices on items that are already expensive to be a "gift" to the consumer. Especially after we know they're perfectly willing to raise said prices to compete with other retailers. They're giving the illusion of a 20% off sale. It used to be 20% off their already low prices. Now it's 20% off their higher than everyone else's prices. I was in the camp that used to say "hey, at least it's still cheaper with ddd.com... who can blame them?" Now they're actually MORE expensive on many items with their sale. I wonder how many people will toss Lost: Season 2 into their cart unaware that 20% off of 45 is actually about the same price (if not higher) than deepdiscountdvd.com had for the same item before the "sale." |
Because of the high prices I'm officially committing myself to only 3 purchases: The new Friends Complete Series Collection, for abt $150 after discount, and the Gummi Bears/DuckTales releases at $17.50 after discount. I was considering others.... but prices still too high.

Then why did CSI:NY season 2 go from $41 to $48?? Must have just happened since dvd price search still shows it. I am going to have to check all of my wish list. Just cancelled a few items because of last minute increases that were not part of above sales. :thmbsdwn: |
