Black Friday.

I emailed a mod and didn't hear back - is it off limits or not? Just curious as our man speedy is coming in sometimes a week and a half early on regular ads.

Things are starting to show up and don't want to start trouble.

Thanks
Tim

I believe at least one of the major retailers threatened DVD Talk and other shopping information sites with legal action a few years ago if they revealed any BF prices early. Weekly special prices don't seem to be a big deal, but BF is highly competitive and the stores get nervous if their super secret plans are revealed. I remember hearing that one retailer even leaked bogus specials a few years ago to throw bargain hunters and competitors off the scent.

Much as I would like to see the prices here, I would rather have this site up, running all year and free of any legal entanglements.

Yep, the retailers claim the advertisements and prices are intellectual property protected by the DMCA.

Why would the retailers be mad? Don't they want the customers?

The fear that other retailers will use the information for a competitive advantage.

as in the past, all black friday information is not permitted on dvdtalk unless it's on the website of the individual e-tailer/store.
