Well figures that I quit coming in this thread for a while and new stuff pops up that I want. I am heading out to the area biglots in the next couple of days to look what I can find so can anyone tell me if the old batman serial you all picked up are in the cardboard sleeves or regular dvd cases? thanks!!

The Valeyard 12-19-07 01:37 PM

They're in regular DVD Cases. No slipcover.

An4h0ny 12-19-07 02:09 PM

deepdiscount ships them to my door for free

Thanks for the info! I have not been out to my local BL's in a while now but I always had a tendancy to skip over the ones in the cardboard sleeves. I hope I don't miss out on some good things by doing that as my BL's seem to always have tons if the cardboard sleeve ones.

This sale at DD sums up all the Sony titles we've been getting at BL for months for much cheaper!

The studio is also featured in the current Oldies.com print catalog (and online, I presume), offering "over 150 titles". The usual $2-$3 titles we've found at Big Lots are $5.95 or 5/$25 there. What's interesting is the appearance of Columbia/Tri-Star Television box sets in this sale, mostly 1st season. TJ Hooker, Police Woman, Fantasy Island at $19.99 is ok, but what would they cost at BL? Keep your eyes open.

NeilJ 12-19-07 06:38 PM

Well I only had time to hit 2 of my local BL's this evening and did not find the Batman serial but I did pick up these:
The Wild Bunch Original Director's Cut $4.00
Flash Gordon The Dominion of Ming 12 episodes (I love these with Buster Crabbe!) (vintage movie classics -hopefully there is not a watermark on the screen constantly) it is in a very nice slipcover with a fold out front $2.99
Monty Python's and now for something completly different $3.00
and a couple of Anime
Outlaw Star 8 episodes on 2 discs (19-26) $3.00
Cowboy Bebop 3rd session $3.00

These have all already been talked about in this thread I imagine but hey I am late to getting in on the biglots fun but am really wanting to join in!

lolitazz 12-19-07 09:29 PM

Sorry about the wrong title on the Stephen King DVD

I haven't seen the Batman Serial at my local stores. The only ones I've seen again from previous sales are Mozart and the Whale $3, Christmas with the Kranks $3 and Timothy Goes to school $4, but very, very few copies.

I don't know how BG stores do their stocking, it's so unpredictable Some stores don't have the $4.90 titles yet.

zekeburger1979 12-19-07 10:21 PM

A couple of days ago, I got The People vs. Larry Flynt and The Squid and The Whale for $2 each at my local Big Lots.

So true, some of the titles mentioned here a month ago just showed up at my local BL last weekend. Picked up for $3 each:

The Passenger
Memento: Limited Edition Two Disc Set
Flatliners
Casualties of War: Extended Cut
Capote / In Cold Blood
Closer

So at this rate, I might see the $4.90 titles after New Year's...

jewellrunner 12-20-07 08:27 AM

Dang, I had no idea about Big Lots. I think the last time I was in mine they only had those cheap $1 dvds of old cartoons like Betty Boop. I'll have to look a little closer.

I bought the same DVD and watched the first full chapter - no watermark.

Not to go too far off topic, but Big Lots has a 32" Olevia LCD HDTV on sale now thru 12/24 for $449. It's a refurb, but I can vouch for this being a great TV for the price as I bought one new from CC back this summer for $550.

My DVDs look very very good on it using my Oppo upconverting player and the HDMI input!

Lastdaysofrain 12-20-07 12:03 PM

i have that Olevia TV as well, got it at KMart the day before Thanksgiving for $419

Star Wars Guy 12-20-07 02:42 PM

Yeah, I saw them for that price in their Thanksgiving ad and would have picked up another one if I had the money in my budget that week, but everything was tied up for Black Friday.

toldawg128 12-20-07 06:32 PM

Today I got:

$4.00:
Strangers on a Train 2-disc
North by Northwest (first release)
Rebel Without a Cause 2-disc
East of Eden 2-disc
Giant 2-disc
Philadelphia Story 2-disc

$3.00:
And Now for Something Completely Different

Not bad.... :)

Super56K 12-20-07 07:45 PM

Wow..great finds toldawg128..

I checked a Big Lots today, and only bought 'And Now for Something Completely Different' for $3. I did see the old North by Northwest release though, but none of those 2-disc titles you found. :(

red5bv06 12-21-07 12:09 AM

I got the Batman 1943 movies and FF: Spritis Within 2-disk today for $3 each. That was the last copy of each and all they had worth mentioning at my BL.

EarlB 12-21-07 04:52 PM

Man I hate my local Big Lots - never stocked anything listed here.

BobO'Link 12-21-07 07:15 PM

^Mine's *real* hit-or-miss! For the most part the DVD "section" at is pretty crappy. Even with this week's "family titles" sale they only had 4 of the titles shown in the ad with just a few each of those! I've managed to pick up a title or two on occasion and I always make a special trip when I read about new titles people are finding (it's only 1 mile door-to-door) but mostly I sit here a bit jealous of what others are finding. There are a couple of titles I've been wanting to find that haven't shown up yet so I'll probably bite at the DD Sony sale instead. Yeah, it's a few more dollars but at least I'll get a farily reasonably priced copy.

crispytreat 12-21-07 08:23 PM

picked up a few yesterday:
Running on Empty
White Nights
The Passenger
Undiscovered
A Cry in the Dark
What to do in case of fire.

chris_sc77 12-21-07 09:16 PM

I went to my Big Lots today looking for Strangers on a Train 2-disc but no suck luck.
Of the 2-disk SE WB titles all they had was 2 copies of the 2-disk Giant and 2-copies of The Band Wagon Special Edition (w/ slipcover)
I already have Giant and I almost bought the Band Wagon. Anybody seen this one? ANy good>?

jgorow 12-21-07 11:25 PM

I wonder how they decide which stores get the good stuff and which ones get the junk

Premise 12-22-07 05:38 PM

I was able to pick up Monster 2 disc SE for $3 today.

fsubruce 12-23-07 12:16 PM

Picked up the Batman 1943 serials for $3.00 last night

It's considered one of the greatest musicals of all-time...just a notch below Singin' in the Rain.
