They must still have a fair amount of time on their lease. Due to the sheer amount of traffic that store sees, though, I imagine it will pretty picked over once the discounts get to 40%. At least I know not to bother driving to LA. I've got four locations in OC that are reasonably close driving distance. The only time I bother going to LA anymore is to hit Amoeba.

In Fresno, CDs,DVDs, books, misc merch are 25%. Magazines 40-50%. Oddly enough a few genres of music are 30% (rap, latin, world). Still a loooong way to go before there are any "deals" or reasonable prices for that matter.

It's funny because I heard at least 2 people on their phones sayin "No really EVERYTHING is on sale!!" and they each had 3 or 4 CDs in their hands!

Mark.

Stopped in the Tustin-SOCAL store...30%off..magazine 60%...lots of people in store ..most with 1 or two items in hand. There is a lot of good inventory left.
I had to go with the herd and bought a cd that looked cool for a gift just because....

took the 10 minute drive yesterday to the Buckhead location in Atlanta, Magaziones were 50 percent movies and dvds were 20, used dvds 25, toys 20 and various cds ( rap, house, etc.) were 30. sadly enough the store had a freat deal of people in it most with multi items in hand. looked at a few things but prices are still way high. People seem to be buying becuase they think they are getting a deal, you can drive 5 minutes to Best Buy and get better prices.

Brea store was also at 30% today. People are walking out of there with two to three bags STUFFED with DVD's and CDs. All I can think is "They're nucking futs!" There's still plenty of good titles to choose from, but I am noticing some of the good back catalog stuff is starting to disappear. I was hoping to score a deal on a few old Who and Genesis titles, but they'll be gone before the price gets to an acceptable level for my taste.

Hindolio: No problem. I've got plenty of Tower stores to choose from down here.

there was some shithole furniture store by me that was always in the process of having a "going out of business" sale. this went on for YEARS. i think they finally moved to a new location where they do it all over again.

That'd be a funny gimmick. Open a store, then announce a going out of business sale, run it for 3-4 months, then change your name and announce a grand opening and repeat the process all over again.

Does anyone know if the overseas Towers are also liquidating? I would love to have even 30% off at the Shibuya Tower in Tokyo. The London Tower in Picadilly was also huge.

Unless I missed it, I think the Japan Tower Records chain is going to survive. I believe Tower had previously sold their intrest in those stores to thier overseas partner.

I swear there was a furniture chain that did that for years in California... I think they started out as RB Furniture, and were finally run out of the state when they re-structed under a different name for the fourth or fifth time as Furniture 2000.

Grew up in SoCal and I totally remember RB Furniture and its successors!!! They do that up here in Portland, too. We often joke about whether the guys twirling the signs on the streetcorners have to stop every once in a while and look to see which store it is they're holding signs for this week!

I remember them too...actually a lot of furniture/other store have these kind of sales..sometimes you can see in very small print something like(will restock after the sale). I actually talked with a cd store owner going out of business and he told me that they ran 50% off sale in December and hardly anyone came...and when he really was going out of business and had banner outside with that and selling at 50% off..store was packed when I was there.

The Tower in London Picadilly closed about three years ago, it's now a new Virgin Megastore.
