Tower Records Going Out of Business Sale

Stopped in today to my Tower....they had 15% off dvds, 20% off cds, and 30% off horror dvds. Saw some titles i'll go back for when they drop further, nothing too great now though.

Not all CDs are 20% off. Only Jazz, Soundtracks and Broadway, Pop Vocal , oldies etc are 20%. . Rock and Classical are only 15% off.
As for the Horror DVDs, I saw the Warner Hollywood Classic set ( Mask of Fu Manchu, Mad Love etc.) Listed at $40 . With 30% off it was $28. Surprising they had it as it was released this week. Not as cheap as Buy.com with the $10 off. This was at Lincoln Center store in NYC.
The employees were saying that this store will get the inventory from smaller Tower stores when the smaller stores close.

I love how in the article a kid says "I don't really even like to buy CDs, Usually I just buy songs on iTunes." Let's see him play those songs 20 years from now!

Don't know if this applies to all stores, but here in NYC at the Lincoln Center location the rental DVDs are now up for sale at 50% off their original MSRP.

Okay, I'm feeling seriously schmucky about asking this, but... could one of you cast an eye around the store and see if they've marked down their holiday stuff? When our local Sam Goody's closed, they put the holiday stuff (both dvds and cds) at 75% off at the beginning of the sale! I've just about got my holiday movie collection complete, and my holiday cd collection is in the hundreds, but I'm always open to more if the price is right. TIA!

someone likes xmas! but in all seriousness I think that's a legit question since often times certain things get an extra sale.

i think the diffrence is that Musicland shut down after Xmas...it was terribly out of season...thats not really the case for tower, as there going out of business will run into the holiday season

I assume they have no more new release begining this week?
I have quite abit of credit saved (used-DVD trade-in) so I have to use it soon.
Anyone know if the liquidation apply to the Tower in US only? how about Tower in Oversea? (if there are still any.)
about 10 years ago, Tower had stores in Hong Kong and Taiwan but later all closed. There are also couples in Japan and I wonder if they're still there?

It has been several weeks since they have received any new releases.
The overeseas Tower stores were sold off a few years ago.

Even at 20% off some CDs I saw things Cheaper at Virgin and Virgin Mega Stores are not known for their great discounts. Still stuff was flying out of the NY Lincoln Center store . They seem to be low on stuff from some artists.

Stopped in at the Lincoln Center Tower this morning. People were buying away. 10% off some stuff, 15% off some stuff. I just don't get why people are jumping at this stuff at this point. It's such a weak sale so far. And of course, the up escalator to the DVD's and Classical section wasn't working, which is like a daily occurrence at this store. Gotta love it.

10 and 15 percent off just doesn`t excite me anymore. So I spend a hundred dollars and get a whooping ten bucks off. let me know when it`s at least 30 percent off.

All rentals $10.
Stopped into the Tower on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. All their DVD rentals are $10. Picked up a few criterions (Metropolitan and Harlan County) for $10 each. They had a few others left like Short Cuts and Young Mr. Lincoln. Pretty good deal, I think.
