My top recommendation is Full Metal Panic!

I also really like Kino's Journey, and I thought Mezzo was a pretty fun show.

Hey, I dont know if I'm having some kind of memory problem or what but did some of the price over at ddd went up? I check last exile dvd anime set yesterday and I remember it was at 53.99. Now its at 66.54.

This was part of a Geneon sale that expired on June 6. The price with the 20% off is the same as it was a few days ago when they were running the sale. However, the prices on Geneon titles are cheaper than they used to be. A $30 title used to be $22.50 or so. They are now $19.95.:)

Sweet Baby James 06-08-06 09:00 PM

Well, I pulled the trigger on an anime order at DDD-

FMP-Fumoffu? 2 $15.93
FMP-Fumoffu? 3 $14.37
FMP-Fumoffu? 4 $14.39
Elfen Lied 2 $15.93
Elfen Lied 3 $14.37
Elfen Lied 4 $14.39
My-HIME 1 $12.08(I was going to get the artbox, but the review at AOD stated that the box was of the flimsy variety)
My-HIME 2 $12.08
Eureka 7 Volume 1 $12.08
Fullmetal Alchemist 9 $14.51

Total $140.13.

All that's left is Dead Zone 4, Rockford Files 2 and Cemetery Man on Tuesday. Now let's go Mavs.:)

murray731 06-08-06 10:58 PM

Just Kino's Journey for me so far. I'll be making another order later to catch up on SAC 2nd Gig and a few other things.

I try my best to be an enabler.:) Another sweet deal is the Chobits thinpak set for $53. I just got it this week and it's a nice package and I'm really enjoying the show so far(I'm up to episode 10).

Question: Does Gantz: Season 2 thinpack include all the features of the single discs, just like Season 1 thinpack did?

The Reaper 06-09-06 08:29 AM

Thinking about the Full Metal Panic, Chrono Crusade and Kaleido Star thinpacks but I'm not sure yet. I wanted the Escaflowne Anime Legends set but it's been pulled. Not sure why they're only pulling selected Bandai titles instead all of them, though.

Spez 06-09-06 08:41 AM

I ordered volumes 3-7 of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (Among other things). They came to about $8 each after the coupon which is a great deal.

Eric F 06-09-06 09:48 AM

It's clear the Patlabor sets are a steal. All 11 volumes including the OVA and New Series for ~$75. I only wish the movies were cheaper, but I'll wait for those.

I placed my 2nd order, and I officially out of money now. I ordered Justice League S1, but am still on the fence about S2 (don't want P&S). I was going to order V1 and V2 of Votoms, but I think I'll wait until Nov to order the entire collection.

I really didn't want to buy much more standard DVD because it's unknown what will be coming out on Blu-Ray.

justbarelymovin 06-09-06 10:25 AM

New Right Stuf weekly specials and coupon code.

I haven't seen Chrono Crusade yet, but definitely get Kaleido Star and FMP. Trust me, you won't regret it. FMP is so good that you'll want FMP-Fumoffu? as well. Another good thing is that Funimation is releasing the first volume of FMP-Second Raid this fall.:) Escaflowne might have been pulled because there was a problem with one of the discs in this set and Bandai had to start a replacement program.

justbarelymovin 06-09-06 10:52 AM

Man, I can't wait for FMP - Second Raid. Yes, yes. Buy FMP! It's got something for everyone. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Gatchaman

Hope I'm not out of line posting this here.

ADV Questions:

I started collecting the Gatchaman box sets and would have bought more last DDD sale if they hadn't been yanked. Now I have my chance again, BUT...

I know none of you have a crystal ball but what do you think the chances are that ADV will release a Slim Box set of the entire series?

Am I correct in thinking that if they do release a slim set, the bonus discs will not be included?

I love the Alex Ross art on the boxes, but they'll just end up taking up way too much space.

justbarelymovin 06-09-06 11:20 AM

It's POSSIBLE, but of course, we can't guarantee anything. They did release the Robotech Protoculture Collection... But really, who knows. You're not out of line, there's just not really any way for us to know what you don't unless the information is already out there, you know?

Eric F 06-09-06 11:22 AM

Also, the ADV sales are usually no better than the DDD w/20% off, plus ADV customer service sucks.

During the infamous DDD sale, this thread serves as a useful place for questions and recommendations. ADV usually drops extras when they release a thinpak set. I'm sure that Gatchaman will eventually be released as a thinpak. However, I read somewhere that ADV is going to take more time in rolling out thinpaks because too many people were waiting for them and not buying the individual discs as they were released. By taking longer to release a thinpak set, ADV is trying to get the impatient folks to break down and buy the individual discs.

I bought Chrono Crusade from Best Buy from that 30% off anime sale and it was throughly enjoyable. I don't believe DDD ever listed Escaflowne Anime Legends on their site.

Since there are quite a few Kino's Journey fans here, here is a half-hour hour movie prequel (released in Japan early last year) from YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5ZsnuDNZlo. If this link shouldn't go here, just delete it!

Dragon Fly 06-09-06 03:28 PM

There's always a chance that they will release a thinpack but in regards to Gatchaman I kind of doubt it. The audience is relatively small for that particular show so I can't see them rebundling 18 dvds of a niche series. If it does happen it'll probably be a few different boxed sets. If they do a slim set you can garauntee that the bonus discs will be absent.

Like you said it's really hard to predict. The whole slim pack thing happens when a show's sales become stagnant.
