The website actually states the sale ends 4/6/06. Regardless, I did pick up Shoot the Piano Player, Harakiri, Children are Watching Us, and Complete Mr. Arkadin. May pick up more if some others go down to 45% off....

Thanks for the heads up NoirFan. And Thank you DDD. I sure hope all these sales are not in place of the 20% off sales you have been having the past year or so...

smurr05 03-31-06 07:51 PM

Thanks OP. Picked up the last 2 Criterions I had on my want list,
Sisters
Carnival of Souls

vballboy51 03-31-06 08:24 PM

supfool! 03-31-06 08:29 PM

do the REBEL SAMURAI-60'S SWORDPLAY and SAMURAI TRILOGY boxsets just the DVDs packaged together or are they just the discs in a foldout type packarge/something along those lines?

Ron G 03-31-06 09:39 PM

Yeah, I was hoping to pick up Solaris.

I wonder what criteria (ha!) are used to decide which discs are included in the sale.

They just box the regular keepcased releases together.

BiMonSciFiCon 03-31-06 10:52 PM

thanks OP picked up 3 Films By Louis Malle

grem458 03-31-06 11:15 PM

Jeezy Creezy. I have to stop coming to this forum. I had to pick up Forbidden Games, Amarcord, The Tin Drum and Wild Strawberries.

Sondheim 03-31-06 11:24 PM

A fantastic deal, especially since these are all films I've been meaning to get for quite some time:

3 Films by Louis Malle - $43.97
Mr. Arkadin - $27.47
F for Fake - $21.97
Charade - $21.97
Stray Dog - $21.97
I Vitelloni - $16.47
Il Posto - $16.47
The Sword of Doom - $16.47
Night and Fog - $8.22

If I buy nothing else the rest of the month than my budget will be all right... :lies:

Dorsalphin 04-01-06 12:24 AM

Thanks NoirFan. I've been meaning to pick up Fear and Loathing for a while now so I figured now was as good a time as any.

eau 04-01-06 12:27 AM

$$ goes to DDD

Doughboy 04-01-06 03:38 AM

Au Revoir Les Enfants
Do the Right Thing
The Third Man
The Lady Eve
Videodrome

All for just over 100 bucks. Not bad for Criterion discs. I would've picked up some of the Kurosawa DVDs, but a lot of them are non-anamorphic.

How is "Naked"?

with David Thewllis...it has intrigued me for sometime and perhaps now is the time.

Naked , is a dialouge driven film with quirky characters and a downbeat tone. I feel that David Thewllis is brilliant in this role, and often rambles on incessantly about life and the world around him. If you like this sort of film, I think you will enjoy this excellent piece of work by director Mike Leigh.

jeffrey r 04-01-06 07:00 AM

Thanks OP. Picked up 'Wages of Fear', 'Harakiri' and 'The Vanishing'.

Shagrath 04-01-06 08:15 AM

I'd had some money stashed away for the 20% off sale, but since these prices are a little better, I'm going to run to the bank and desposit it so I can get in on this. As I'm trying to complete the collection, they're all equally important to me. So I threw all the spine #'s I didn't have into a hat and drew until I had 8 of the $16.47 titles (the best bang for the buck).

I ended up with:
Taste of Cherry
Mon Oncle
Honeymoon Killers
Coup de Torchon
Rififi
The Vanishing
W.C. Fields - 6 Short Films
Pepe Le Moko

I sent the remaining list to my mom for my birthday coming up next month. I had originally told her to just give me cash and I would hold it until June, but this actually works out better (on some titles), and she loves to actually get me gifts so she can see the look on my face. For reference, she got me 32 of them for Christmas last year.

The quest nears completion (or at least to the point where I don't have to play catch-up anymore). :)

J-Log 04-01-06 08:58 AM

I had been waiting for a good deal on "The Lady Vanishes" and will probably pick that one up.

I have been waiting for that too, but I don't see the discount on it (at $23.97) any better than what it usually is. Many other $39.95 titles are discounted to $21.97.
aup.

How old are you? She bought you 32 at one time? Can somebody say "spoiled?"

Edit: Wait, you are almost 30 years old? Good grief.

The Void 04-01-06 10:28 AM

I was waiting for this sale, most of these are cheaper than Suncoast ever got before closing.

I picked up

The Man Who Fell to Earth
Videodrome
Carnival of Souls
The Vanishing

die Ehe der Maria Braun is a very good film, (I'd consider buying it if it were sold individually), but I don't know the other two, and Faßbinder is really hit or miss (at least for me)

Isn't the upcoming Anchor Bay release better than the Criterion one(not to mention cheaper)?
