Walk the Line 2-disc $19.99 at tower.com...also spend $100, get $10 gift cert

I got an e-mail today for tower.com

"Spend $100 on In Stock Items and Get $10 to Spend Later!
Plus, Receive Free FedEx 2nd Business Day Shipping!"

and at the bottom of the e-mail there was an ad for walk the line 2-disc for only $19.99 which is a great price if there was something else you wanted to buy to get the free shipping.

I checked it out and in order to received free shipping, you have to spend at least $20... a penny short unfortunately. Why couldn't they round that up to an even $20, lol.

You can add some guitar strings for $0.99 to get the free shipping. Cheapest item I could find.

http://www.towerrecords.com/product.aspx?pfid=2680743

Shipping for me would be $2.95 to Texas, so saves about 2 bucks.

I thought the retail for this was $39.99? So 50% off is $19.99, which was the discount at foxstore.com last year...

What are the advantages of this release over the regular one? Basically, is it worth the extra $7?

Tempting, but $21 + tax by mail isn't much better to me than just picking it up at Best Buy for $24.99 + tax next Tues. Thanks for the info, though.

BTW, if someone were looking for another DVD deal to throw in, that 4-Disc Elton John set is only $14.99 (it's $24.99 at Best Buy). A very good price for it.

Walk the Line CE is not eligble for discounts. It says so when you add it to your cart.

i also got the 2 disk jarhead which was a great price of 22.99 but it had no ability to use a coupon either.
I just ordered from tower in december and there was no sales tax. I guess a lot of stores are starting to charge.

You're right. I checked the free shipping details and apparently even though there's no coupon involved it counts as an "other offer." According to their site the free shipping cannot be combined with "other offers":
http://www.towerrecords.com/promo.as...ng%20Offer%201

So you either get $5 off 30 or free shipping over $20 but not both.

Also, note that if you spend $100 to get the $10 gift certificate, the $10 MUST be used by 3/31/06.

I ordered it plus the new "Pride & Prejudice" dvd. Even with taxes added. I am saving over $5 from the cheapest I have seen which was BJ's Wholesale Club which will have it for $24.99 plus tax.

Thanks for the info!

Nope. See post #11: "Walk the Line CE is not eligble for discounts. It says so when you add it to your cart."

The $5 off $30 or similar coupons have always worked with free shipping in the past. The problem here is that Walk the Line CE is not eligible for the coupon. The $5 off $30 coupon is not conflicting with the free shipping over $20.

I was not actually trying to order "Walk the Line", I was trying to use the coupon code that I had not seen until I saw it in this thread to buy some CDs. You are correct about walk the line, but I see what I was doing wrong: one of the CDs was a special order, so when I took that out, it let me get both the coupon code and the free shipping. Thanks for the info.

Wow, I ordered my copy last night and my order has already shipped. The funny thing is that the other item I ordered to get free shipping, a $0.79 CD single has not shipped and it was in stock.

Thanks for the heads up! I just ordered Walk The Line along with Warner's Controversial Classics Vol. 2 (All The President's Men/Network/Dog Day Afternoon SE's), which Tower has for $39.99 (Better than $41.89 at Amazon). On top of that, the $5 Coupon did work on the Warner Set, so I got it for $34.99.

I did have to pay tax, unlike at Amazon, but with free shipping and the coupon, it was basically cancelled out.

For 5 dollars more I received my copy from Tower today 3 days after ordering. I'm happy paying 5 dollars more for reliability. Plus with the e**tes site you get 3 percent back.

It seems they don't actually ship until the afternoon of the release date (at least that's what happened before. I ordered the Controversial Collection (Dog Day After Noon, Network, All the President's Men) which hasn't shipped either.

I ordered earlier Friday morning, after having read about how quickly tower.com was shipping this item, and mines shipped out that day and I received it today. Outfrickin' standing. Thanks to the OP I saved 4 bucks and I didn't have to make a trip out to Best Buy. I just got done watching the movie and I loved it.
