DDD isn't cruel enough to actually end the sale the very millisecond it becomes the 19th of November. That would just be stupid.
Why would it be stupid? They have given you ample time to get your orders in...

When we run sales through our on-line store and the coupon expires at "midnight on the 19th," for example, the system automatically kills the deal. It's not like there is a person or programmer who has to stay up at night to make appropriate changes at a certain time. I don't know how DDD does it if the deal lasts longer than advertised. I'd hate to be the guy who has to come into work and sit there looking at a timer with my finger on a mouse.

Rather than your approach I think they want the added customer satisfaction for customers who maybe just found out about it

When I see an expiration date on a coupon/deal I assume the full final day is eligible. This is probably how most people and businesses consider it as well. From a business perspective, it's preferable to include the final day rather than alienate a portion of your customer base.

I doubt the coupon expirations are human-controlled. Coupons are likely given a database timestamp and if someone were to use it past the pre-defined timestamp, the checkout application/script would not apply it.

I placed an order yesterday night, and I still haven't received an order confirmation. I'm worried that it got lost. Then I placed a second order (a title that I guess I forgot to move from my wishlist, although I was fairly certain that I had gotten it the first time), and DDD cancelled the order! WTF? On top of all that, I still haven't received my free DVD from their last B2G1F sale. I understand that customer service will take a hit due to the sale, but it really seems like customer service has been sliding even before the sale began.

I hope they didn't lose my order. Watch, there'll be an order confirmation sitting in my inbox when I check my email.

EDIT: Twenty-four hours and still no order confirmation. It didn't accept the same coupon code at the checkout page, so maybe I'll get confirmation yet. I put every title that I ordered back on my wishlist, just in case the order falls through.

I suspect they removed it 'cause they were losing too much money over it, why else would they do such a horrible thing?

I placed one an hour ago and my IE crashed. Since I didnt get an order confirmation email 30 mins later, I figured my order didnt go through and I redid it. My guess is now I have two identical orders. Hopefully can get through to CS before they ship both. Ugh....I used to get confirmation emails within 2 minutes of orders....guess they are overloaded with orders.

I totally agree with that. I guess I misunderstood your previous statement. I thought you said that ending the sale at the pre-determined time (i.e. at midnight) was bad and that DDD should extend the deadline past that time for any late customers.

I know it's off topic, but how can you accommodate everyone every time? I'm sure we will see a couple posts in the next few days from people who were out of town or didn't have access to the Internet who missed out on this sale.

If someone e-mails DDD CS after the last day of the sale and says they missed out and perhaps DDD could extend the promotion for them and take the 20% off their order now, I wonder how DDD would respond?
