Gamestop B2G1F 9/16-9/18

Stopped into Gamestop this morning on my way to work. Was going to grab Simpsons 4-6, and I told the guy at the counter that I wanted to buy a copy of the newest Game Informer and use teh B2G1F coupon in there. He told me that he thought that the morning's e-mail contained a notice that this weekend would be B2G1F. He checked and sure enough it was. Soooo, I picked up the following:

Simpsons S4: $24.99
Simpsons S5: $24.99
Simpsons S6: FREE

Knight Rider S1: $29.99
Knight Rider S2: $24.99
Chappelle's Show S2: FREE

Total cost after B2G1F, tax & discount card: $104.90

zekeburger1979 09-16-05 12:57 PM

Thanks for the info. I'll have to stop in at the one by my place tomorrow. I haven't been there since I moved here 2 months ago, so hopefully they'll have something good.

Krayzie 09-16-05 01:09 PM

Went in today with the woman, but we didn't know they were having the sale 'till we were in there. She got most of the stuff, but I got the Best of Abbott and Castillo V3 and Chappelle's Show S1, the former which was free because she bought so many other titles. Real good deal if your GS has a nice selection of titles.

matrixrok9 09-16-05 05:19 PM

Thanks movie exchange. Got Simpsons season 6, Prince of Persia 2 and Tiger Woods 2005 (going to exchange it for another game or dvd, they didn't have anything else I wanted)

Ok, time to leave work. Totally didn't read that correctly. :D

s0me0nesmind1 09-16-05 07:01 PM

Went 5 minutes ago. The selection SUCKEd. I would have gotten simpsons season or something, but god my stores selection SUCKED. Im about to look up another location. But anyhow, heres what i got at this place:
Family Guy Volume 1 (Season 1, 2) $24.99
LOTR: The Return of the King (Extended Ed) $19.99
LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Ed) $16.99 (FREE)
Total: ~$48

Joe Carioca 09-16-05 07:33 PM

Thanks OP for the word! nothing at all at my two GS, but in a state of delusional weakness from a miserable 20 mile circuit, I accidentally wandered into an EB and snagged a gone with the wind 4 disc for 8.99.

gryffinmaster 09-16-05 08:20 PM

Guys, if you find a GameStop with a good selection, you are golden. I got Master and Commander SE, A Knight's Tale and Jerry Maguire for under $11.00 (with their card). In the past, I have gotten THe Insider, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Sleepy Hollow all for that price as well. Hunt for a good locale.

matrixrok9 09-16-05 08:26 PM

That's true, they have the 2 for $10 dvd's u also get one free since it's buy 2 get 1 free. It had Master and Commander, Terminator 3, Attack of the Clones. Pretty good deals

Pookymeister 09-16-05 08:27 PM

i got Angel S2 and S3 for 29.99 each, then 24 Season 3 for free.
Then i bought Disgaea(PS2 game) for 44.99 and Xfiles S1 for 39.99 and got S2 for free.

dvd182 09-16-05 10:45 PM

My Gamestop had some pretty good titles in the $5.99/2 for $10 bin. For once it wasn't all Bedazzleds and Monkeybones. Picked up The Grudge (with slipcover), Elf 2-Disc, and Pi for $10 total and change. All had inserts and original advertisments as well, so all in all a good deal.

Gizmo 09-17-05 01:27 AM

Man...so many Target $6.99 boxsets at mine...Tons of Deadwood, Sopranos, Band of Brothers, Little House....Gah!

Pick some up for me. :)

VicVega 09-17-05 09:16 AM

Picked up yesterday: Monty Python And The Holy Grail CE, Million Dollar Baby, and Snatch Superbit DE for $27 total. Not too bad.

beticus 09-17-05 07:11 PM

I picked up Hero (with slipcase), The Forgotton, and Ocean's 12 for 10.85 including tax.

MovieExchange 09-17-05 08:25 PM

Hit another GS tonight on the way home, picked up:

Oz season 5: $29.99
King of Queens season 1: $16.99
Mr. Bean - The Whole Bean: FREE ($12.99)

I probably would have bought more, but this GS has changed their display to an annoying stand-up where all the titles are facing forward, forcing you to dig through the rack instead of just looking at the spines. It's too much of a pain in the ass to try and squeeze my hand in the narrow space provided. I told the manager that he probably lost at least $50 if not more on my visit because of it, so we'll see if that gets passed up the line and the display gets changed.

jessecrx 09-17-05 09:06 PM

My wife and I did well also...

Picked up

In Living Color Season 3 $24.99
The OC Season 2 $34.99
Splinter Cell 3 Chaos Theory $Free

$60

Metroid Fusion $9.99
Singin In The Rain SE Set $9.99
American Beauty DTS Free

$20

raidersrule86 09-17-05 10:44 PM

My haul:

(2 for $10, now 3 for $10 with buy 2-get-1 free)
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Road to Perdition
Titan A.E.

and regular buy-2-get-1 free:
Mulan (2 Disc SE) ($12.99)
The Lion King (2 Disc SE) ($12.99)
Hey Arnold! The Movie ($9.99, free)

and with the rest of my credit and $6 cash I snagged a discount card and a year of Game Informer.

And I'll be hitting the other GameStop near me tomorrow.

toogood 09-18-05 12:27 AM

Picked up:

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2 disc edition) ($5)
Demolition Man ($5)
Blue Streak (Free)

The sale ends today (Sunday) so going tomorrow might not work. :)

Of course there have been many times where corporate has continued the sale past the initial weekend it was planned. I'll try and stop at a GS on the way into work tomorrow morning and see if the sale is still running.

As for my haul today... man, it was bad. Drove almost 90 minutes south to a batch of Gamestops and didn't find much at all.

Sealab 2021 season 1: $16.99
Greatest American Hero season 1: $14.99
Spirited Away: FREE

Highlander season 6: $39.99
Charmed season 1: $24.99
Beauty & The Beast (Disney 2-disc): FREE

Most of the stores I went to have gone to that crappy dump bin system I mentioned in a previous post. The majority of the time that I mentioned how poor an idea it was to the employees, they agreed. The response was pretty much the same - "it'll kill sales because people don't like to dig through like that, it'll make it a bitch to keep anything organized, but this is what corporate wants... of course the people in corporate have never worked in a store, so they have no clue what they're doing."

jedimasterbenz 09-18-05 08:53 PM

I was able to pick up:

Wrestlemania XXI - $12.99
Rebel w/o a Cause - $9.99
Great Gatsby (Redford version) - Free

Not too bad but was hoping to get more.

That was exactly what the guys at my local GS said, too.

The front to back bin they use for 2for $10 sucked but now that they've went to to the new racks on ALL titles...I HATE it!

wewantflair 09-18-05 09:54 PM

Sadly, this is the first B2G1 sale that I haven't travelled all over Long Island for. The gas prices are too cost prohibitive, effectively negating any savings I might make. Also, with no new hot video game releases in a while, the selection has been very thin. Hopefully, they run some sales around the holidays, as trade-ins really pick up around November.

Around here the prices finally went back down to what they were before the hurricane, around $2.52 / gallon. I'm pretty sure that this sale was held to coincide (sp?) with prices falling back to "normal" in many areas. The week or so of high prices hurt many businesses that specialize in entertainment.

If it had still been $3 to $3.50, I wouldn't have been driving around.

illennium 09-18-05 10:08 PM

I went to one GS around closing today and they were taking down the signs, so a sale extension is going to be YMMV at best.

So far I've gotten:

The Wire: Season 1 $29.99
Seinfeld: Volume 1 $29.99
Law & Order: Season 14 FREE

Angels in America $12.99
The Life Aquatic 2-disc $12.99
Appleseed: LE 2-disc FREE

Saw $5.00
The Cuckoo $5.00
Kill Bill Vol. 1 FREE

Kill Bill Vol. 2 $5.00
Collateral 2-disc $5.00
Young Guns SE FREE

LOTR: Return of the King $5.00
Rush: Rush in Rio $5.00
Moulin Rouge 2-disc FREE

EDIT: Used a Game Informer coupon to get:

Six Feet Under: Season 4 $49.99
Six Feet Under: Season 2 $39.99
The Sopranos: Season 4 FREE

All prices are before the 10% discount is applied. I might go back to another store tomorrow and use one of the Game Informer coupons to buy some more box sets.

Struck out at my local GS's this sale, As ive stated before, i think there are too many sharks in the water out here.

also, all but one of the gamestops i hit switched from side facing to front to back. If that wasnt bad enough, most packed em so tight that you couldnt even flip through them. The final insult is that the rackes they used for this system were so tight that they couldnt handle DVD's in snappers cases. these had to be wedged in, and that made it even harder to flip.

Strike out again like that and i may not go back, its not worth the hassle. As it stood before i didnt bother with the 2 for $10 bins when they started standing them up instead of laying them with their spines out.

Get the district manager's info and complain to him/her. Call the 1-800 number for corporate on the receipt and complain to them. The only way a change will happen is if we complain about it.

I checked one of the ones near me and they've started doing the same for all their DVD's. Makes it not worth the hassle, unless you're only looking for easy to spot boxed sets (although I prefer the GS that put all of their boxed sets in one location)

silvernackle 09-19-05 02:44 PM

eb games

eb games had the same promo until yesterday, buy 2 used dvd and get 3rd one free. i picked up:

lotr extended: return of the king = $14.99
lotr extended: the two towers = $14.99

got lotr extended: the fellowship of the ring for free (priced at $14.99 also).

discostu1337 09-19-05 08:41 PM

Thank you guys...please complain about the rack. I manage a GS and hate them, as does everyone else in my disctrict. They get so messed up because nothing fits in them, so people leave dvds all over the place...not to mention you have to be Superman to force that stupid metal rack onto the shelves in the first place.

On a side note, since I started working at GS 2 years ago, my DVD collection has quadrupled....strangley I have no money for anything else....

GCS 09-20-05 08:35 AM

Did pretty well myself on these.

24 Season 1
24 Season 2
24 Season 3

Will & Grace Season 3 **
**(Got those for the wife as I thought she liked the show -- I was wrong!!)
Challenge of the Superfriends Volume 1
Gladiator (2 disc SE)
Fat Albert
Pride FC New Blood
Spiderman vs. Doc Ock
Fantasia 2000
Gilmore Girls Season 3
A couple of others I can't remember right now

Spent a little over $200 for everything.

discostu1337, I just sent this letter to corporate via email... If there is a corporate phone number I can complain to, please provide it.

"I collect DVDs, and I buy a lot of DVDs from your store in the used bins. Probably around $1K per year at least because you have the best used prices. I went into the local Gamestop this weekend, and they have recently changed their set up for DVDs into forward facing bins.. The bins limit you from being able to look at the DVDs, so instead of just looking at the spines like normal.. I have to physically take the rows of DVDs out and look at them one by one... and this only works this way for the top row! Any row below the top row, you can't look at anything but the first DVD.. and because the next row up is so close, you can't take DVDs out.. even if you want to buy them. I had to physically remove the each row on the rack to view the DVDs below it. I gave up on the third row half way in because it was incredibly too annoying. The racks were also chewing up the spines of DVDs that were slightly larger including box sets and digipacks making them completely worthless to me. I told the employees about the problem, and they agreed and said that it was a corporate thing.. they couldn't change it. Sure enough, another local Gamestop had the same exact set up when I went in. Normally on B2G1 Free sales, I spend between $200-300, but this time I didn't spend a cent. PLEASE Change this. or I simply won't shop in your stores anymore."

raidersrule86 09-20-05 03:38 PM

Weird, my Gamestop still has everything on a shelf spines out, except the 2-for-$10 bin.

MovieExchange 09-20-05 03:49 PM

The # for corporate is 1-800-883-8895. Call and complain about the new dump bins!

I just got off the phone w/ GS, and the guy tried to make it sound like it was a regional manager's decision. I told him that with 2 different districts here doing it and many others across the country all doing it over the weekend, it is probably a corporate directive. I figure my call won't mean much, but the more people that call, the more attention this should get.

Remember - always be polite, and stress to the person that takes you call how this new display system is costing Game Stop money because it's too difficult to see all the titles for sale. I also pointed out that I traditionally spend at least $400 on a B2G1F weekend, but this time I didn't spend anywhere near that, and the new dump bins were the reason why.
