maybe i'm not understanding the purpose of labeling them a specific region, but if they are called "region three" but play as "region free", then isn't it in effect region free? i'm not trying to be smart, just trying to understand.

It is based on where the discs are marketed. For example, Criterions are only sold in Region 1, so they are called Region 1, even though some discs are coded Region 0. No one would market a DVD with a Region Code different from the code assigned to a country.

Another point to consider is PAL/NTSC, because the Region may include a country whose video standard is different from your own.

To clear it up regarding these superbits.

These can be played on Region 1 (US & Canada), Region 3 (Asia) & Region 4 (Brazil/Mexico) NTSC players.

I've ordered from them 4 times in the past with no problems. I usually got my stuff in about a week in fairly nondescript packaging so I didn't get hit with any customs charges. For some reason, the postman won't leave the package in my mailbox so I usually have to make a trip to the post office to pick it up.

Are these pending MSRP drops? Just wondering why they are all pre-order.

Thanks OP, I'm going to snag myself a couple.

No. They do that to get a better idea what kind of order to place.

As a reminder - these SBs have Korean writing on the side. If that sort of thing bothers you, you may want to pass.

are any of these really worth picking up? In other words are the movies such that they need a superbit treatment, and in the end is the superbit really that much better than another release? Any from this list the creme de la creme of the superbit line?

From this list I own Bad Boys, Desperado, Lawrence of Arabia, and Spiderman, and they are all top notch discs. Lawrence and Spiderman I own these Korean versions, and they play perfectly and are much better than their non-Superbit versions in my opinion. Same goes for Bad Boys and Desperado, especially Desperado has a big improvement in the audio/video deparment over the non-Superbit DVD that is out there.

Maybe it's just that in Korea "region three" is pronounced "region free"

Not in sparky's house. He only buys products made in the US of A. I always love when people spout off about shite, when they don't have their facts straight.

Also, superbits have a DTS soundtrack. So the audio is supposed to be louder. I've always been an extras woman so that's why I never get the superbit dvds.

I just placed an order for five movies. In the past, the orders have taken about one week, to arrive in Canada.

Bram Stoker's Dracula is a kick-ass Superbit disc especially in the sound department.
