I rented The Life Aquatic last night when I bought my three, and it's the Criterion version. They only gave me one disc too. I dunno why but for some reason they don't give you the 2nd disc. I know it's not the single disc version because on the disc it says "disc one: the film"

Same here, rented it and only got disc one. Not sure what the deal is.

I ran across this buy 1 get 1 free coupon on another forum a few days ago:
http://www.hollywoodvideo.com/specials/visaoffer/
May be a better deal on some of the older titles.

Anyone try this yet? That's a slightly better deal than 3/$25, as most of their PV DVDs are $14.99.

Did they have "The Grudge: Director's cut" special edition?

I doubt it. Most rental stores don't carry double-dips unless they lost the original version and need to replace it.

Both Life Aquatic releases were Criterion. Hollywood only carries the single disc version...it's been stated earlier in this thread.

Picked up these last night for $75 (which I had in credit):

Bourne Supremecy
Terminator 3
Troy
National Treasure
Flight of the Phoenix
Lara Croft
Lara Croft II
Sky Captain
Aviator

The worst part (or best part, depending upon how you look at it) is that I think the Terminator 3 is the same one that I traded in accidentally a couple of weeks ago.
Doh.

Does the single disc release say "Disc one" on the DVD? The one I got from hollywood did. But I could see it being Identical to Disc 1 of the 2 disc set, just packaged differently to save money.

I don't see why criterion released the two sets anyway, the 2 disc one is only a couple bucks more than the single disc one at DDD.

I stopped by my local Hollywood Video today and they had printed up signs 5 for $25 excluding The Aviator, Team America: World Police, and The Son of the Mask. The signs were covering up actual Hollywood Video signs 4 for $20. In the corner of the 4 for $20, it stated a one year guarantee. But they had a printed up sign of all exchanges/refunds: All used movie sales are final.

The DVD/VHS they have bought from people was really small, 20 DVDs and 30 VHS tapes, and nothing of real interest.

I am picky about what movies I get so I doubt I would find five I even have a slight interest in.

Yeah, they had signs over my local one as well, the limited the sale to just this past friday and saturday. The hand written signs said, Pre-viewed DVDs 8.33 each Friday and Saturday ONLY. Had them on the door as well.

$8.33 = 3/$25. I guess people there aren't willing to fork out for 3 movies at a time.

Not sure why they'd have that hand printed sign, you could just take the DVD's to any other Hollywood with 1 year (with receipt) and they'd take it back.

I don't think the 'all sales final' is meant to negate the guarantee, I think it is there so people don't treat the used dvds as free rentals (i.e. buy, watch, return for refund or a different dvd).

I remember a few years ago they had a lifetime guarantee on their movies.
