You know, I made a conscious decision to stop at season 5 (plus I thought the Fight The Future DVD made for a nice bookend), but I'm tempted to go and pick up season 6 and 7, but will not go any further than that.

All arrived by USPS on Saturday, after placing the order online late Wednesday night. All packaged well and in good shape. Much faster than I expected!

This sale will last until July 9th or July 10th.

I just put out the signage for it today at work, and on the bottom right corner it said 7/?. I don't remember what day exactly, but it will usually end on a saturday and on sundays we take the signage down.

If you purchase more than two, Best Buy has a "movie" gift card that saves $2.00 for every two DVDs purchased. Its not a lot, but it helps.

Tempted to pick up this series blindly having only seen 2-3 episodes when it first aired...
but being a bit short on funds, I might wait a while.

I was able to get free shipping and $5.00 off of my order. I picked up the last two seasons of the X-Files for 100.xx shipped. Dick Grayson posted this over in the Hot Deals forum -

This is great news. I was worried that this was a one week sale. I picked up seasons 3 and 4. Season 3 was regularly priced at $125. Fuck that. Now I will just pick up a season or two every other week until I have them all. Great find guys, thanks.

has anyone tried using the current pricing of the X Files season sets at Best Buy , as a price match at Circuit City? With their 110% guarantee, it could be quite a deal if someone can do this. I've already ordered Seasons 2-7 from the website, but i may try to get the extra $5 off of the last two seasons by attempting a pm at CC the next time i'm out of town.

I just bought Seasons 1-4! I checked the pricing with a customer service guy before going to the cashier. He seemed shocked at the price, and immediately asked his supervisor "Why aren't we advertising this?". The supervisor was just as surprised.

I stopped at S4 because the cut-off point when they started broadcasting in HD. Just my own little HD-upgrade rule -- no buying tv series broadcast in HD. A double-dip on movies I can take, but I won't do it for a series a spend hundreds of dollars on. If I feel the urge to see them until then, I'll rent. Plus, my interest in X-Files waned after S4, and really fell off the cliff after the movie. Hopefully I won't be weak and run out and buy more X-Files seasons anyway

Did they actually go HD at that point, or just widescreen?

To be honest, I'm not really sure -- my technical logic may be completely off-base (and probably is). I'm pretty sure X-Files (like many tv shows) was shot on film before transfer to video. So if the studio still has the original film, a HD transfer could always be done. That's how the HD channels can show really old shows in HD -- like Hogan's Heroes.

Season 5 is also the point where I stopped really liking the show, so maybe that's a better reason for stopping.

Me too. Many thanks.

Judging by the bidding on eBay, not too many people know about this sale.

Picked up Seasons 7 and 9 and got an additional 5 bucks off thanks to that magic lamp thing on BB.com. My collection is complete!

On my way out I glanced over at the shelves and there's a big banner underneath the X Files section which basically says "Wow! We're selling The X Files for $49.99 each! Wow, Best Buy rules!"

I picked up seasons 1-6 today... never planned to because of the outrageous price they were going for previously, but at $50 a set I had to get them... there goes my credit card! The problem I am faced with now is when am I going to find the time to watch all of these episodes again. I guess I will have to skim through them to look for errors within 30 days so I don't run into the problem a poster had with Best Buy in the store forum.

Damn it!... who's bright idea was it to put the security sensors directly on the slip covers for seasons 5 & 6? I tried pulling them off carefully but... you guys know the rest of the story. Not only this, but all of the seasons I picked up were dinged up and had floaters... yes I am anal about the appearance of my collection... like many of you. Just contacted Fox, and it looks like I'll have to send them the damaged slip covers first in order to get replacements... oh well, I hope that goes smoothly.

Anyone know why BB is blowing these out (well, it's still 50 bucks, but still about 50% of what they usually retail for)? Are new sets coming out? A price drop soon?

I've returned several slip cases to Fox without any problems. I'm actually quite impressed with their customer service.

Arghhh!!! I broke down and bought another one (Season 5). I must be stopped from spending more money! It's funny, last time I was in the store the manager was shocked that the DVDs were at such a big discount without any advertising. That was just 2 days ago -- now there's a sign on the shelf advertising the price. I'm lucky I came back during the week -- if I waited until the weekend I would probably be out of luck. Hmmm ... Seasons 6 and 7 had 1 copy each left ... NONONO! No more spending!
