LOTR Collector's Gift Sets: $24.99 Each at Fry's

In the Fry's So Cal ad for this weekend, they have the Collector's Gift Sets for all 3 LOTR films for $24.99 each. These are the ones with the bonus disc and the various trinkets (Bookends, Gollum statue, etc.).

Obviously this is a pretty good deal, even if it were just for the Extended Editon DVD's, but you get the whole box here.

I wish there was a Fry's in Virginia. You could almost sell your existing EE's for this much.

Dem straight you should!
If anything, it would complete your set.

I'm contemplating whether or not I should sell my existing EE's.

Huh ... no Fry's in Hawai'i. Is this advertised (online) or sold on their website?

Hmm... so this is just the EE with the statues, right?
I'm not sure if I'm a harcore enough LOTR fans to double-dip for this set... might be good for gifts, though.

Do these sets have any investment value? I already have the 4-disc extended editions of each movie, but might have to stop by Fry's on the way home tonight if these sets would be worth stashing away for a few years.

Probably not. If they still have so much stock years after release they obviously are not limited in any way.

I don't care about the bookends and statues, but it would've been nice to have the bonus DVD in each set for practically the same price I paid for each of the Extended Edition sets. This time I'm going to restrain myself and avoid the double dip figuring that since I haven't watched all the extras on the EEs, I'll probably never miss the extras on the bonus DVDs.

I find this interesting because it again indicates how huge the markup is on most DVDs. If these normally went for $60+ and they can sell them for $25 (and you know Fry's isn't losing money) then cost must be no more than $20 on the Collector's Sets, probably $10-$15 on the EEs, and probably under $10 on the theatrical editions.

Too bad places that rent movies online never rent special bonus discs like the 5th one found in each LOTR Collector's Edition.

I don't see this advertised on the website...but I really want those statues..and could probably trade in the rest for $10-15.

Guess this might actually be worth the 20mile trip...gotta call first...

The bookends from FOTR usually go for about $50 on Ebay (new). Just the bookends.

Just picked up mine at the Fry' sin Webster, TX. They had about 75 of each on the floor and an employee said about 150 of each still in the back. Just an FYI for anyone who's interested.
