I was able to buy one off the shelf at my local BestBuy today as well. There was no indication of a sale, but it rang up at $7.99. Good deal. Thanks to the original poster.

In case anyone wants to save a few bucks, the theatrical version dvd(s) has been found in many a Wal-Mart $5.50 bin. At one of the Eugene (OR) stores, I saw the Anchor Bay version, but others have claimed to have found the Universal release at their locale (as usual, YMMV.)

For some reason, the website said it was unavailable for in store pickup in my area, but I went to the store and found it myself. Got it for the sale price.
Thanks to the OP

bobbin sweet find thanks alot. Guys id recommend in store pickup because the stores most likely wont have it. Therefore what they do is give the option to either pick it up or 2. They'll ship it to you FREE SHIPPING , or course i did the 2nd option. Saves gas money just gotta wait a full week.

without wading thru all the threads, what's the most definative version of "The Evil Dead" to go with this? Hope it's not that stinky rubber cased one.

the rubber case doesnt stink all that long, leave it out of the shrink wrap a while and its fine. Heck, most of the ones you would find in the stores anyone, the shrink wrap is thrashed and its aired out nicely. It is very cool packaging

Also note...
the 2 disc boomstick just had a msrp drop from 29.99 to 9.99....a divimax has been announced for later this year.
check here Upcoming AB horror dates and specs + ED2 and Halloween re-issues, Argento, others
Also note that if your collecting multiple army of darkness (and I know many do) The Single disc version will be sold for 5.99 at Suncoast for the next two weeks....The deal is a great one, but it will be cheap everywhere else in the next few weeks.

According to that thread, it's Evil Dead 2 that is getting the divimax treatment, not Army of Darkness. You don't have to get the Book of the Dead version if you want the best version of Evil Dead. AB also released it in a regular keepcase version and it includes all of the extras that the Book of the Dead has although some of the extras are only accessible as an Easter egg. The AB version is 16x9 widescreen, but some feel that the full frame version offered by Elite is the superior version of Evil Dead. I have both the AB BOTD and Elite version and while both are good discs, I prefer the anamorphic transfer by AB.

Thanks to the OP as well, found one copy on the shelf (marked $17.99) and rang up at $7.99. Been waiting forever for a deal on this!

Also, Army of Darkness Boomstick Edition is now out of print. So there may be another edition coming. But for $8, I wouldn't hold out.
