Couldn't find 3 that I wanted or didn't already have when I went to gamestop. However, I was able to pick up the out of print Notorious: Criterion Collection dvd for $6.99... hells yeah. It brought a smile to my face to think that some punk kid probably swiped it from their parents' collection to trade towards grand theft auto or something.

This won't help you now -- but by law they are required to give you the price on the sign whether the sale is over or not. You probably should have talked to a manger. You may want to try contacting their corporate HQ too.
I asked for the manager and the employee told me that he was out for the day. So i went back the next day (yesterday) to return the bootleg Road to Perdition DVD and asked to speak to the manager. The manager, who by the way looked like a snotty 20 year old, came over and I told him about one of their employees not honoring the promotion even though it was all over the store. He said to me "I wasn't here yesterday so I don't know about that" I showed him the pictures and he began to give me attitude. Then I told him that they were selling bootleg DVDs in the store and that it is a crime to do so and he had the balls to tell me that the Road To Perdition DVD wasn't a bootleg at all, just a different version. I just exploded and told him to get a playstation a play the damn DVD so he could see with his own eyes that this was filmed with a camcorder in a theater. He did and saw what I told him. Quickly after that he gave me back a refund for the DVD and for the extra DVD I had purchased but didn't apologize. I inmediately asked him for his complete name and told him that I was going to call the corporate office for giving me an unnecessary attitude for their mistake. I didn't do anything wrong and was being polite until he began treating me like I was a thief or trying to decieve him. I called the corporate offices this morning and they apologized for the incident and told me that they were going to take care of the situation and then asked for my address so they could send me a $10 gift card.

Now that I could vent my frustration I feel a lot better. I just hope that the imbecile manager get was coming to him.

I love it when that happens! One time I found Sid & Nancy: Criterion AND Robocop: Criterion. My jaw almost hit the floor!

HA! Snagged Hard Boiled: Criterion and Time Bandits: Criterion from the same shop!

squaresoft7 03-18-05 07:11 PM

yeah they were right beside salo, and the killer.

conscience 03-18-05 07:54 PM

I looked on the site and there were NO box sets of interest at the two stores in my area. They had a few Deadwoods in stock on the website, but it says they may not come with the box!!! I won't take that chance at all (especially if they aren't willing to tell you specifically).

I might stop by the one at the local mall and check out what else they have.

smackattack 03-18-05 08:24 PM

gamestop or EB Games? May have to drive around in the dang rain tomorrow and hope i find something good.

Sarcasm isn't nice. FWIW, here is a photo of my recent haul (whatever would fit in the frame, anyway) Note the Game Stop bag and receipt.

I love Game Stop.

conscience 03-18-05 10:49 PM

You suck! ;)

The only thing I remember EVER getting from there worth anything great was a copy of the OOP edition of the 1939 Wuthering Heights dvd that I turned around and sold for a might profit.

What's that set "10:30ish" from Time Bandits?

And clean up your room.

wewantflair 03-19-05 01:03 AM

Going counter-clockwise from Time Bandits, you have Star Trek: Voyager Season 5, Star Trek: DS9 Season 7, Highlander Season 6, and the Godfather Trilogy. All in all, not bad for a day's work.

NCYankee 03-19-05 01:11 AM

Damn, nice haul - TNG and DS9 too, I haven't seen any of those in my local stores - though I did snag a couple Toy Story 2-packs for $25 which I resold quickly for $70+ at Amazon.

Wow - almost missed that Peter Pan SE - that ones a nice find too, I sold a sealed copy for $70 (bought it at Blockbuster for $25).

wewantflair 03-19-05 01:28 AM

I live in a dirtbag town with a lot of thieves, apparently. The Star Trek: Original Series season 3 is actually sealed. The voyager and DS9 sets were clearly never even opened. I got myself a Toy Story 2-pack a while back from FYE (before their used prices got ridiculous), but I'm really dying for an Ultimate Toy Box.

I know what you mean - some of the Buffy and Angel seasons I saw had tears on the cardboard behind the disc holders where someone had ripped out the security chips.

As far as the Toy Box - I have a disc 1 that I got at Gamestop for $12, I got kind of spoiled with all the extras and can't be satisfied with the non-SE verson in the 2-pack, so I am also on a quest for an inexpensive UTB.

kenbenobi 03-20-05 12:00 AM

I've seen a lot of DVD's at Gamestop that could be bootlegs. I haven't seen the discs themselves, but they have lots of cover art they printed themselves (on a pretty poor printer, too). I've always been scared to buy those discs because I don't know where they came from. As far as I know, Gamestop won't let you trade in DVD's with no cover art. So either Gamestop is printing them themselves, or they are dumb and allowing people to trade in that crap...

jkberden 03-20-05 02:07 AM

I hardly ever see anything when i go into my local GS, so imagine my surprise when I saw the Lord of the Rings Trilogy Extended Editions. All 3 were in pristine condition to boot. I talked to the clerk guy, and he said some guy just brought them in today. I ended up getting all three for $39.20 total. I have not even seen the 2nd or 3rd installments, but i couldn't pass on this deal considering they were in near brand new condition. I hope I actually enjoy the films when i get around to watching them. Thanks Game Stop.

When I went in a month ago, to do a pre-order for The Incredibles, I browsed through their used dvd section. I noticed that some of the dvds had fake cover art. I wanted to be a pal and bring this to the attention of the manager. He said that the dvds they take in without cover art (so I guess they do take them in), they send out for covers from their corporate office. It's hard to believe they don't look as real. (I know what you're saying when you mention the poor-printer quality.) Maybe it was just an excuse to save face, but hopefully they don't get taken advantage enough as often.

I tried like hell to find the inventory of my local store on-line but I couldn't find it. Some help would be hot...

Pretty much you have to look up a title and then check the inventory for stores with a certain mile radius. This system is the only way to check the inventory for your store online. Sadly, this means you have to have certain titles in mind and even then the website only lists about 800 titles total (if that) meaning your best bet is just to go to the store and check.

wewantflair 03-20-05 08:47 AM

It's impossible to check inventory for good items; Game Stop lists everything under the same title as the same SKU. For example, Hard Boiled: Criterion will be listed under the same SKU as the Fox Lorber version.

NCYankee 03-20-05 01:01 PM

Sometimes this can be to your advantage - I picked up Murder One : The Complete First Season last sale for $8 after my 10% off and the B2G1 - it was not in their computer, so some employee had priced it as Murder Was the Case at $12.99.

Also, older stuff that is not in their computer will be priced cheap - I got an OOP Return of the Pink Panther for $6.99, then sold my sealed copy for $60 at Amazon.

grune 03-20-05 09:14 PM

Its weird how many criterions are showing up. I found the Hidden Fortress tonight at a location I regularly check and have never seen a criterion in. It was $12.99, but since I wanted End of Evangelion and Evangelion Death and Rebirth (9.99 each) it ended up only being $3

wewantflair 03-21-05 05:21 AM

Just picked up Wuthering Heights (HBO 1939) and a stack of criterions. My luck can only go down at this point.
