Was BB pricing error a mistake?

I dont know if I am alone but with respect to the recent pricing error at Best Buy over the weekend, could it be possible that there was no mistake? Please hear me out! I myself took the bait and order 8 higher priced Dvds. Of the eight, three were cancelled. Of the five I ordered I had no intentions of ever ordering one of them and 2 others I would probably not have paid $8.75 (shipping charge of $1.25)+ tax apiece. My target range on those 2 were more like $6. On top of that BestBuy then send out $5 dollar coupons. What can you buy for $5 dollars? Nothing, right. But what happens after you add some of your money plus the $5 dollars coupon? Not to mention Bestbuy gives itself free advertisement on sites like this one in the form of Bestbuy threads and post. I could go on and on and on, but I think everyone gets the idea.

Anyway I have added a poll to see what everyone else thinks about my theory! Also, please tell how you are using your 5 dollar coupon at BestBuy. Not only will this help others but I am curious on how much more money is spent at Bestbuy besides the original $5 coupon. This will help support my theory or it will add support that I don't have a clue!

I am putting this thread in the Bargain forum in the hopes that when people share how they are using there $5 dollar coupon it will give others ideas on how to best use their coupon to get the best bargain. Have fun and enjoy!

It is an intresting idea, though i would think they lost a ton of money on Showgirls and the Traffic Criterion alone.
I did order a couple more dvds than i would have ordered without the deal though (such as Showgirls...not worth $25-30, but for $8? why not?).
I just got the Knight's Tale Superbit today incidentally.
I do have a question though. I got 2 coupons, since i had two different orders and two different email addresses....can you use both on one purchase or is it one coupon per order?

Yes, they tried to sucker in people who thought they'd be getting one over on Best Buy and then shafted them by only sending out the lower priced ones so they could...

1) Screw them
2) Get people to buy DVDs for $7.50 that people would only normally only pay $6 for
3) Lose money
4) Sucker people into buying something else with bogus "valued customer" coupons
5) Unload the total world's supply of Showgirls Box Set to demonstrate to the retail community who's boss

If you look at how this went down and the "big sellers" in the deal it is quite obvious someone made a mistake. We'll use traffic for example. BB intended only the cheap version of Traffic to be in the sale, but somehow on the list they put ALL verisons of Traffic in their database. This happened for every movie in the sale, which is why some of those preorders (like Hoosiers, etc...) ended up in the deal and some of those f'ed up vhs's were in there. It was a mistake, and BB tried to make good on it, which is more than most e-tailers do. You might not like their company but they did okay on this one.

It was a mistake, plain and simple. I saw the list and started looking for DTS versions, but didn't noticed Traffic for $34.99 until it was posted here. The cost on Traffic is 20-25 dollars, that is a huge lost that Best Buy was looking at and they decided to lose 5 dollars instead. My order shipped with everything except the pre orders and I am very happy Best Buy decided to give me the coupons also. I'm sorry people didn't receive everything, but another deal(mistake) is always around the corner.

Large corporations do not do this sort of thing. The potential return is too slight and the possible penalties too steep.

It was clearly a mistake. So now tell us who shot JFK; I'm sure you have a solid theory for that one too.

You can use both on one purchase.

A couple of posters have mentioned doing this already in the other thread.

Gimme a break. They have the REGULAR versions of these DVD's on sale this week, and pictured in their ad. They just goofed on the website and included all versions of those titles. There was no marketing ploy. It was an error. Period.

If BB put something in an Ad, they should have to honor it.

these titles were online and were obvious misprices.

If it was a B&M ad, they would have to honor the prices unless they posted a sign saying that it was a pricing error.

Thank you for asking! JFK was clearly shot by a ...........gun!

I am very happy with the deal I got! I know my theory is way, way out there. Its just food for thought, besides I get a HUGE kick out of all these people who feel the need to defend a company such as BESTBUY or any Mega Corporate Giant. This could just as easily be Circuit City or Walmart. Besides, Bestbuy is getting more free exposure!

I still do not believe Best Buy lost that much money! Who was ever going to buy the Showgirls box set at regular price? I have to go earn some money now, I hope someone besides me is getting a big kick out of this thread!

The poll is missing this option:

- Anyone that orders DVD's that they don't want and for more than they want to spend is an idiot
