Martin Scorsese Collection ~$23 at dvdsoon

I was searching dvdsoon and found this. It is $10 cheaper than bestbuy and DDD. I think it is a good deal for 4 great movies

JiM T 01-11-05 11:05 PM

Is it the upcoming MGM set, or the WB one? Thanks...

I think the following would matter to some...

MGM set would be bilinqual :(
WB set would not :)

DonnachaOne 01-12-05 12:00 AM

$10 cheaper, but you have to wait ten times as long for it to get to you.

Description says MGM

The WB one is $47.98 Canadian.

cine 01-23-05 06:58 AM

DvdSoon's free-shipping is now for members only (membership is CAD$ 49.98 annually).

seymouru 01-23-05 10:53 AM

BestPrices.com has the Scorsese MGM collection for $24.81 + $2.98 shipping. That's for 4 films. By comparison, Amazon is selling Raging Bull alone for $18.89 with STL.

P.S. The BestPrices site lists the set as Full Screen, but that has to be an error.

I preordered this set way back on November 24th for 26.98 CAD and yesterday I received a shipping notification. Looks like i might be getting this even earlier than street date!

Yet another positive dvdsoon experience for me.

Same here. I ordered November 15th, when the set was going for $21 and slapped $5 shipping on it just to make sure (since everyone complains about the time it takes, which they're right about - *see below). I got the confirmation, so we'll see how it arrives...

*I ordered Dead Ringers 15th Anniversary edition, and it took 20+ days, despite the added $5 shipping for time-insurance. So far they haven't responded to my request of a $5 refund.... :(

I just checked and noticed this was released a couple of weeks ago. I can't find any info on this being released in the States. It seems this is a Canadian release only. How is the transfer on this?? Is it worth the money or should I still keep my eyes out for the Criterion version??

The Exister 01-28-05 09:48 AM

Ordered it for around $27.00 shipped.

not to be a booster for dvdsoon, but I ordered about 50 or more dvds from them during the recent sale a couple months ago, and got most of them in very short time (with the free shipping). And most of them were even out of stock because of the sale. However, there were 2 dvd's that took a long time, but out of 50 I didn't really mind, especially since I was warned to be patient.

It's a port of the criterion collection. It even says so on the cover.

There is more information in this thread that I created awhile ago regarding the Dead Ringer rerelease:

What's your definition of a "very short time"?

Just recieved Scorsese Collection fron DvdSoon. Not a French word on the outer box cover anywhere. Haven't opened the shrink wrap to view the individual movie cases yet.

It's the MGM Set.

SFranke 01-31-05 04:31 PM

Do you mind updating the group when you do open up the set? I'd appreciate it.

raining_helper 02-01-05 02:50 PM

I recieved my Scorsese MGM set today from dvdsoon. No french on the exterior. As well, no french anywhere inside either.

I must say it is a beautiful sturdy slipcase. I am quite impressed, a much classier package than the WB set.

Inside the box, Raging Bull is even sealed seperately.

SFranke 02-01-05 03:57 PM

Thanks, raining helper!

chsidwel 02-02-05 01:27 PM

Went ahead and ordered today. Just over $27US with First Class shipping. Haven't ordered from them in a while. I've never had any complaints with them before.

chente 02-03-05 11:33 AM

I ordered it from Bestprices and it came out to $30 shipped since I got charged tax.

ClaptonIsGod93 02-03-05 06:45 PM

Is Raging Bull the 2 disc version?

andrew hein 02-03-05 07:58 PM

That's a good question.

raining_helper 02-03-05 08:55 PM

Yes Raging Bull is the 2 disc. That is even how it is advertised on the exterior slipcase - "Special Edition 2-Disc DVD Collector's Set."

I took a few quick pics:
