movie gallery buy 2 get 2 free (11/24)

I'm in PA for the holidays and was in movie gallery today and was about to buy 3 dvds from their buy 2 get 1 free sale. However, the guy behind the counter told me that they are starting the buy 2 get 2 free sale on wednesday - fortunately, he took my three dvds and put them on hold for me so i can pick them up and another dvd on wednesday....happy hunting!

Thanks for posting this. I love this sale. I knew they would have one before Christmas, but I thought it would be a couple of more weeks yet. Last year I think it lasted though Christmas.

Bah! I decided to drop by the closest one to the house the other day, only to find that they are closed down.

This is definitely the place to go for used dvds (even though they usually just have the "big titles")

The one near me hardly ever has customers, and plenty of used dvds to choose from. I got a few last time that looked like they had never been rented.

The dvds also come in the original cases with the inserts.

And the sticker to close them and the price sticker come off quite easy.

I second Conscience's sentiment. This is the place to go. I realize they update their Pre-Viewed movie list every Monday, but does anyone have a fairly decent listing of the new movies they're put out Pre-Viewed (aside from the ones mentioned above)?

Thanks,

-B

I also agree that Movie Gallery is by far the best place to go for pre-viewed dvds. They seem to put new releases out on the shelf pretty quickly, and they always have the original cases, inserts and usually all the miscellaneous stuff inside as well like rebate offers, catalogs, etc. I never understand why people are always so enthusiastic for Hollywood Video or Blockbuster sales when this sale boils down to 4 recent new-release movies for about $30.

Of course YMMV. My only gripe is that all the Movie Gallerys are far away from me - I have to drive 20-30 minutes to get to the nearest one. But I hear they are trying to buy Hollywood Video, so that would be welcome news.

No, it is Blockbuster that is trying to buy Hollywood Video.

Nope, it is movie gallery.

HOLLYWOOD VIDEO IS WOOED BY MOVIE GALLERY
Monday, November 22 2004
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Hollywood Video rental chain suddenly has another suitor. Only a week after Blockbuster offered to buy the chain for about $700 million plus the assumption of $350 million in debut, another movie rental company, Movie Gallery has said that it has made a "superior" proposal, although it did not disclose its terms. The addition of Hollywood's video stores to Movie Gallery's would effectively double the size of the company to 4,000 stores (versus Blockbuster's 5,500 stores).

Not to mention that Movie Gallery offers a lifetime guarantee on their previewed titles. Just hang on to your receipt!! I purchased a previewed movie from there once, didn't watch it for a few months and when I finally did realized there was a slight skip in the film. So I returned it for another one with no problem. Of course, you also run the risk of not finding the movie again if you have a problem with it after a few years. I have always wondered what they would do in a case like this.

Actually, both have placed offers on the table to HV.

I ran into this problem this summer. Since they did not have anouther copy of the same movie, they gave me a credit.

MG used to have much better deals...but they they jacked up all of their releases by 2 bucks

so what was 12.99 (so basically 4 for 26), is now 14.99 (so 4 for 30)

Still a good deal, but not as *hot* as it used to be.

You could always *try* and fine four titles that are cheaper than 14.99.

But that is a little hard.

I agree, superdeluxe, but the one thing I like about MG (and HWV) is that, unlike BBV, they have a better selection of previewed stuff. At BBV all I ever see are 4 shelves of the same title. There's still 3 shelves of Terminator 3 at the one near me at school. Movie Gallery never disappoints with its selection. I'll be stoppinbg by the ATL store near Galleria tomorrow and hopefully find a few things to pick up.

I was able to check out my local Movie Gallery today and they had a decent selection.

Some notable titles included (all $14.99, buy 2 get 2 free):

Van Helsing with slipcase
Dawn of the Dead (2004) with slipcase
White Chicks
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Day After Tomorrow - didn't have the fancy prismatic slipcase though
Super Size Me
Garfield
Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

Fahrenheit 9/11 is only $9.99, but there were not many other $9.99 titles that I wanted...

Also, they had a schedule posted for other upcoming pre-viewed titles:

Shrek 2 will be available PV on 12/6 and it will be $9.99
Harry Potter will be available PV 12/20 and will be $9.99
Spider Man 2 will be available PV 12/27 and will be $9.99

I asked how long the sale would last. The guy working there wasn't sure, but he said it would last through Christmas. As always, YMMV. This was for a store here in Cleveland, Ohio.

I ask for the slipcases if it isn't on it and they always go in the back and get me one. Garfield comes with a slipcase too. Today I bought these for $14.99

Punisher
Walking Tall
Close Your Eyes
Cinderella Story
Van Helsing
Saved
Rasing Helen
Envy

I am going to pick up Garfield, Man on Fire and Scooby Doo 2, but I need a forth. I am going to wait and see what they pull Monday.

The manager told me that according to her books this sale is suppossed to last until Jan 5th, 2005. That would be substantially longer than any previous MG PVD sale, but I sure wouldn't mind.
