No kidding. It's scary to consider that I took 10 minutes to generate a virtual cc number. The thing sounded too good to be true, but I'll be damned, it's for real:

Its not worth $100 to have to cancel from them again. But good luck to Miss Peach.

steebo777 11-04-04 02:24 PM

DAMNIT!!! I missed out. Thanks anywho Miss Peach. This almost toppled your $10 off at B&N ;)

succubiss 11-04-04 02:38 PM

I got in earlier this morning.
No hurry to cancel either. The last time I was with them was in 1996.

Jboone 11-04-04 02:46 PM

Wow, that got pulled fast.

calhoun07 11-04-04 03:05 PM

They are also offering a 100.00 gift card from Blockbuster if you sign up for their "service" for a year. The thing is I had AOL once and it was the worst program I could have on my computer. Second only, perhaps, to Windows ME in the sheer amount of problems the program caused my computer. And that's the problem with doing this, I would have to install their crap on my computer. Tempting, but not worth it.

Krayzie 11-04-04 03:17 PM

i figure $100 to reformat a computer would be worth it

You don't need to install their program to log in if you have another ISP. I have no intention of installing any AOL software, believe me. I've already gotten into my AOL email account, and since that's the only thing I require to collect my GC, that works for me!

As for billing, well . . . they'll get one ping on my cc and then it's defunct. Believe me, I know never to give AOL an open line of credit on a credit card.

Once again, I'm sorry they pulled this so damn fast. I'll have my virtual cc card numbers ready to go in the future, so at least I won't have to risk/lose precious minutes doing it on the fly.

Peach is right. I used to signup and cancel over and over with AOL for those free______.com sites. You don't have to install the software. You can login to your AOL email acount almost instantly via AOL's website. Cancelling is a bit of a hassle (at least in my experience) with AOL's CSRs but for $100 (and similar type offers in the future) it's a relatively painless process and probably well worth your while...

I believe Best Buy is offering a 100 dollar gift card too...but for a longer amount of time.

I think a year is like a 100 dollar gift card, 6 months is 50 dollar gift card, 3 months is a 25 dollar gift card and 45 days is like 10 dollar gift card.

I'm not positive about this, but that's what I've been told at the Best Buy I'm at.

I do reserve the right to complete (any) deal on my own behalf, first Peep — that's human nature. http://www.intergate.com/~tobeornot2...RAMA/BLUSH.gif What slowed this down was my need to pause midstream and generate a one-use cc number, for which I believe I already pointed out I'll be better prepared in the future, and for which I do feel bad that a mere few of us got in.

If it makes you feel any better honey, I type 115 wpm (former litigation secretary in a past life heh heh) and surf with my ever-present Internet companion, TEXTPAD (a text-editing program from which I can link, edit, retrieve, hotkey, macro etc. incredibly fast; indispensable and I urge anyone to download it and give it a try) . . . so I did this one about as quickly as I could.

13thmonkey this is what I'll be getting:

Can you tell us who you use for the virtual CC #'s? I had Amex Blue card but they stopped that feature and I need a new CC company that will let me make virtual CC #'s.

Thanks
D
