DFW Best Buy 11/4-11/6: $10 GC for every $40 of DVDs
Two-page ad in back (Nation section?) of the 11/4 Dallas Morning News states $10 Gift Card awarded for each $40 in DVDs purchased. There is no statement that it can't be used with other offers, so this should still stackable with the Madden coupon or a price match (such as the $39.99 Looney Tunes set PM with Fry's) . Also, their computer system is probably smart enough to invalidate a GC if you return the items for an order, so I wouldn't try buying a bunch of Star Trek sets and then return them thinking you will get to keep your GCs.

I have a feeling if you returned items that made your purchase under $40, they would take $10 off the amount they give you back. Otherwise people could use the GC before they returned. I bought $50 worth of DVD's there yesterday. I wish I would have waited a day to see if it's everywhere or just in Dallas.

Unlike last week's 15% off deal this works with sale items and price matches. I got Looney Tunes and Around the World in 80 Days for $55.94 by price matching Fry's and Ultimate Electronics and they included the $10 gift card too.

Best Buy $10 GC
Works here in Atlanta, GA.
Although, you are right, they take discounts off your DVD purchases, so can not return them full price.
Just worked for me because I bought 3 Shrek 2's.

ok.. here's my story with this one:
At the Olympia, WA Best Buy store.
Yesterday (11/4/04) when I found out about this, I went over to Best Buy with my shopping list of about $85 in DVD purchases. Upon remembering that Shrek 2 wasn't available yet, I settled with just one item: That 70s Show for $40.99. It rang up just fine and the cashier was notified of the package and promptly gave me a $10 GC. Cool.
Today, I go back, planning on finishing my DVD shopping list (Dr. Strangelove, Dazed and Confused, and Shrek 2), getting another $10 GC, then promptly using both to take $20 off another item (probably a video game). Well, that's when the drama started. The computer didn't notify the cashier of the package, so I asked. "Uhhh." The cashier nextdoor (the one that helped me yesterday) said it was only if at least one DVD was a TV show. Weird. So, I went and got Dream On Seasons 1 & 2 (I'm planning this as a Christmas gift for my dad anyway). Still nothing. I then asked for the manager. He was as dumb, if not more, than both the cashiers combined. After spewing a few excuses ("this store isn't participating", "only one per customer and you got yours yesterday", etc.), he finally said "tough" and walked off. What a dumba**. Oh well.
I ended up purchasing the the DVDs I went for anyway and now have a $10 GC to use. (I'll probably use it for Halo 2 next week.)

Deal is Dead (apparently)!
Unexpectedly, I was able to cash in on this deal twice on Thursday in Washington State for two separate purchases that were for $47.55 and for $45.42. However, on Friday (5 NOV), Best Buy customer service told me that the $10.00 gift card for purchases over $40.00 was a computer glitch and that the free gift cards were a big mistake which has been corrected.

I just went to BB and spent over $40 and got the $10 gift card plus a 1 year free subscription to sports illustrated. There was also a sign indicating the if you buy 2 DVD's at $5.99 each, you can get a 10% discount on any DVD including box sets. The Shrek 2 DVD was also on sale from $19.99 marked down to $15.99.

I bought over 10 $5.99 titles plus Shrek 2 on Friday, and I got the $10 gift card, but I didn't get 10% off Shrek 2 even though this offer was listed above the $5.99 titles. Do they not give you the 10% if you get the gift card or if you pricematched (Shrek 2 to $14.99 instead of $15.99)?
How about if you buy 2 $5.99 titles, should you get 10% off your 3rd $5.99 title? Or is $5.99 considered a "special price" even though if the sticker says $5.99 then that's the regular price in my book. I'm just curious if I should've gotten 10% discounts on any of these.
Also, I was told by the cashier that it's OK to return a few of these DVDs (unopened of course) and as long as my order stays over a $40 subtotal, I won't lose the $10 gift card. I hope that's true.

In regards to the gift card, when they give you an instant gift card, they will take that $10 off the rest of your order (usually pro-rated). That said, you can return any of the other items in your order but you will only get credit for the price on the receipt (e.g. if the DVD says $5.49 instead of $5.99, you'll get back $5.49 + Tax).
