Trade 3 dvds for Upcoming Releases at Gamestop B&M

Sorry if this has been covered, I did a search and didn't see it. Gamestop is currently running a promotion to receive one of the following dvds free with the trade in of 3 used dvds.

- Anchorman (WS/EXT/UNRATED) - 12/28
- Bourne Supremacy (WS) - 12/17
- Collateral (2-disc/WS) - 12/14
- Dodgeball: Underdog (WS) - 12/17
- Family Guy: The Freakin' Sweet Collection - 12/14
- I, Robot (WS) - 12/14
- Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (4 disc) *YMMV* - 12/14
- Mary Poppins (40th Anniversary) - 12/14
- The Newlyweds 1st Season - 12/14
- Top Gun (WS/SE) - 12/14
- Troy

The trade-ins have to be from a major studio, but the girl at my store was very lenient and took all my stinkers.

*Thanks to baloux for an updated list as of 12/1/04*

Thanks for the info. Two questions:

1: THey will have WS versions, right?

2: How long is the deal until?

This will be a great way to unload my outdated barebones of my double dippers. I've got Traffic, Memento, Shawshank and several Star Trek titles just begging for new homes. This should be a good options for those of us without the BBV trade-in deal.

Did you find any mention of this on their website? I ask, because I checked their website out to see if there were any of their stores close to me (found out there's one 7 miles away), but I saw no mention of this promotion.

Did you find out by stopping by at one of their B&M stores?

edit: nevermind. i just re-read the title of this post, and one should assume that you stopped by a B&M to find this info out.

Thanks!

1. My receipt says "WS" next to the title name. From what I remember of last time I did this for Starsky & Hutch, they had both WS & FS versions.

2. Since it is for preorders, I think the deal runs until the title is released. A sign for the promotion says "While supplies last", so YMMV. I do know that the first store I went to was only offering Spiderman 2 and Shrek 2, but another one had the rest available and let me reserve Van Helsing yesterday (it comes out today). Hope this helps, good luck.

Just to update this thread, current FREE DVD with 3 trade-ins are for: Harry Potter (must pre-order by Monday though), Dodgeball, and I, Robot. All three signs stated the trade-ins must be from certain studios. The Dodgeball and I, Robot list was long, and seemed like every major studio and some I never heard of (basically official releases, no Madacy or Goodtimes, etc). However, the Harry Potter list of eligible studios was much shorter for some reason...

I just did the trade-in for HP and Spiderman, they're both WS; they accepted 3 older Hong Kong discs (including one with no art), so that's a plus in my book!

Basically everything they took I have tried previously to sell on ebay, unsuccessfully. Until the Blockbusters around here start accepting tradein, this is my best option. Too bad I missed out on Elf.

I don't think this is a good deal! 3 dvds!? It should be trade in 2 dvd's.

Well, to each his own. I have a few I got for free and or in deals. I average under $7 a dvd, so it isn't to bad to unload a few I won't ever watch again to get something new.

Theses days 3 DVDs is a good deal due to the low prices of DVDs (Under $6 Bargain DVDs).

Back when Electronics Boutique used to do the 2 game trade-in for a movie (Star Wars Ep. II and I think Harry Potter), DVDs were more expensive so based on that, 2 DVDs was appropriate.

I don't think it is every GS because I traded in more than 3 DVD's and there was no mention of any free Spidey or anything else for that matter. Now I am sad. Nothing was even posted in the store. So that means a no go, right?

Forgot about this.
Thanks for the heads-up on Spiderman 2, I Robot, and Dodgeball.

I think the best thing to do is simply call your local GS and ask if they are participating.

It is supposed to be any DVD's from major studios, but you might get away with others. So YMMV. I unloaded some discs that Blockbuster wouldn't take during the $8 trade-in promotion. So to me, trading in 3 titles I don't want is well worth a free DVD. But I didn't use it on Harry Potter since I knew I could get that for $12.99...

They are currently taking trade ins for:

Spiderman 2
Bourne Supremacy
I, Robot
Dodgeball
Anchorman

If they have any of the previous releases (the store I went to still had a few copies of Elf left - 817 H Street NE in DC), they will let you trade in for those.

They only carry the WS versions at this location. They did charge me tax though ($1.20) which I found mildly disturbing...

I went to a Gamestop store here in Northern VA and I was told that they are only taking trade ins for UPCOMING titles but the choices are limited. Having that said, I wasn't able to trade in my 3 used DVDs for the Harry Potter 3 DVD since it's already out in the market . Instead of Harry Potter 3, I got the Spiderman 2 (SE) instead .

Anyways, here's the list of upcoming DVDs you can get via trade in:

- Anchorman (WS/EXT/UNRATED) - 12/28
- Bobby Jones; Stroke of Genius (WS) - 11/30
- Bourne Supremacy (WS) - 12/17
- Collateral (2-disc/WS) - 12/14
- Dodgeball: Underdog (WS) - 12/17
- Family Guy: The Freakin' Sweet Collection - 12/14
- Hero (WS) - 11/30
- I, Robot (WS) - 12/14
- Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (4 disc) *** - 12/14
- Mary Poppins (40th Anniversary) - 12/14
- The Newlyweds 1st Season - 12/14
- Spiderman 2 (WS/SE) - 11/30
- Top Gun (WS/SE) - 12/14

*** Note: Gamestop wasn't sure if I need to pay extra $$$ on top of the 3 DVD trade-ins to get the LOTR: Return of the King EE since this has 4 discs but they said I may not need to (I hope so). They told me to call back around 1st week of Dec. to find out the real deal. I'll keep you guys posted.

If it applies for LOTR: EE, then that would be a GREAT deal. Please keep us posted. Thanks.

Went to the GameStop in Worcester, MA yesterday. They said the Spider Man 2 deal was dead. They offered Dodgeball, Chronicles of Riddick, or I, Robot instead. I passed...

FWIW, I traded in 3 for Spidey 2 at the GS in north central AL. The manager thought it was dead and then double checked and it was still active but just barely. Pretty cool deal.
