You sucker. The only two Criterions I have found are The Vanishing (which was really great cause I wanted that title and $10 ain't that bad.) and The Rock.

Finally found a Blockbuster with box sets, but the store manager refused to include them in the 3 for 25 deal. I explained that other stories allow them in this promotion and asked him to scan them to see if they worked (he refused). But at least I've now actually SEEN box sets in the previously viewed section.

retihsuhnt 11-28-04 06:50 PM

Aladdin: PE
Shawshank Redemption: SE
Dinner for Five: Season I
Blade in a non-snapper
Blade II two-disc edition
The Girl Next Door unrated

I am thinking about picking up the Iron Giant 'blind', but I am not too sure.

I still have ~$110 left in credit. After waiting for 1.5 weeks now to see if the Gamerush will get in any systems I have decided to simply 'burn off' the credit with movie purchases. I am looking forward to Top Gun, The Matrix Ultimate Collection, LOTR:ROTK EE .

I have a wild idea for the brainiacs of BBV, if your only going to have only one store between Canada and Fresno, CA for the love of something holy STOCK THEM WITH GAME SYSTEMS.

kevin75 11-28-04 06:52 PM

i have another wild idea for BB, have the sales be active everywhere. the two stores in my town are still doing 2/20 and their scant selection really stinks. they weren't even participating in the trade in deal, i had to go 2 hours away for that.

Sid Ceaser 11-28-04 07:07 PM

I turned in 37 titles for a total of $320 in credit.

Picked up 2/20 Open Range and Coffee and Cigs, and two sealed titles: Trainspotting: Miramax CS for 21.99, and Iron Giant SE for 16.99.

I've got 261.46 left. :-)

Same thing happened to me this week. I got a Simpsons season in a 3 for 25 deal earlier in the week. Went to a different store and tried to get The Wire and Apprentice in the 3 for 25 deal. I told the manager that I had gotten a TV set earlier in the week from a different store in the same deal, but he said they were no longer including box sets in those deals. Just like your situation, he wouldn't even scan the titles when I asked him. He said that the computer can't differentiate individual discs from a TV show set. So it sounds like certain stores are no longer including them in the 3 for 25 deal. But YMMV. So I guess keep trying.

Last week, I went to a BBV I never went to before and scored:

Sex And The City - Season 2
Will And Grace - Season 1
Friends - Season 7

not bad for $25...

Never goto the manager when checking out...
Try to go when it's a busy time of the day...

I totally agree. I went there on a super busy day, spoke with a young employee. The thing was, he had to go back behind the counter to get out the TV show sets that people had traded in. Sucked, because as soon as he did, the manager got involved.

Legolas 11-28-04 11:11 PM

I traded in a ton of DVDs for about $200 or so in credit, but the frustrating thing is I'm buying stuff there that costs $5-8 less at regular stores. I did get rid of a bunch of movies with low trade-sale value though, so I'll probably get a bunch of individual movie items, since their box sets are unreasonably high. Maybe the fact that I don't ever buy used affects this deal for me.

Just an update:

Went to a couple of BBV's in the Chicago area today, and was told that they are not selling any "traded-in" DVD's until further notice. Something about how they didn't have the proper status to sell "traded-in" DVD's. Manager told me to try back in a couple of weeks and they should be selling them again.

I checked the shelves, and everything for sale in the 2 for $20 sale was previously viewed rental discs. So I guess some stores are just sitting on all the stuff people have traded in until the get the green light to sell again.

Big Dave 12-04-04 04:46 PM

I was able to pick up in 2/$20 PPV sale:

The Duel: Special Edition (Tai Seng)
Equilibrium
LOTR: FOTR (For My Sister)
LOTR: TT (For My Sister)

I also found and bought Son Of The Beach: Volume 1 for $15

All of the discs were in beautiful shape.

Gizmo 12-04-04 04:49 PM

Any see Tru Calling new at any BlockBusters?

Legolas 12-04-04 05:13 PM

I used $150 of my remaining value card credit to buy three $50 GCs and get three $5 GCs for free, which will only even out the cost of three DVDs I buy from them, since they will cost $5-8 above other stores.

I also saw all the Robotech episodes I traded in on their shelves. Too bad no one will ever buy them.

So I went to yet ANOTHER bbv that I have never been to before...

Looking through the 2 for $20 bins and see:

Sopranos Season 1 {Priced @ $49.99}

Hmmm...

I wait for the manager to go in the back and then goto the checkout counter with 'it' and "The Last Samari"...

I then ask, "it's 2 for $20, right?", young kid says "yea" then I hand him the 2 items...

He looks at it and says, "I don't think we can do this", I tell him sure you can, just ring it up and it will work...

He says, "okayyyy, I'll try it but I don't think it will work"...

Bingo...

2 @ $20...

He says under his breath, "damn, I should have bought this"

hehehe...

Nice find. I've yet to see an actual box set out with the other DVD's in the store. The only time I was able to get a box set, I asked at the counter if they had any TV shows that people had traded in. The employee then pulled one out from behind the counter to give to me.

Way back in the thread, I posted that I had bought the first three seasons for 2/$20 - if they resist, just have them attempt to ring it up, if it works they will probably let you do it.

I saw a Ken Burns Jazz series on the counter for $129.99 - I decided not to try that one, as it seems a little unreasonable on my part, though I did get an Andromeda Season 1 which was (over)priced at $69.99.
