Anybody know what Wal Mart is going to charge for Star Wars?

Wal Mart pricing is usually similar to Best Buy's first release prices, but I haven't seen any commercials with a price yet.

It doesn't really matter anyway, because Amazon shipped mine late Sunday afternoon. Hopefully get my set on Wednesday.

Green Jello 09-20-04 09:48 AM

In the past, I've found that they are all different. They tend to have a set price and then they shop their closest competitors in a close radius to that store to see how much they need to lower their price and be competitive.

For Star Wars Ep. II, I checked all three Wal-Marts in my area, and they were all different prices. The best was $9.96 and the worst was around $15. It seems that they will used major releases like this to be a "loss leader" to get people in the store.

UPDATE: Jawa01 writes in: Hey guys. I work at Target and right now it's in the system for $49.99. If it's going to be cheaper it won't show in the system until Sunday when the sale prices for the week take effect. On a different note, we are offering a $10 gift card with the purchase of Star Wars Battlefront. So, if you buy Battlefront and the DVD set, get the game first and then have them ring up your DVD set seperatly and use the $10 gift card on it. Hope this helps.

Also Tom R. reports: Just seen COMPUSA ad for S.W. Trilogy on sale for $39.99!

Chuck Mutch writes: Fry's is advertising it for $36.99 Tuesday only. I have had chain stores match the Frye's ad.

I don't... but I do know this belongs in a different forum ;)

Mike Lowrey 09-20-04 09:58 AM

Well, that sure answers my question. But since I got STL with my Amazon purchase, my total price is $40.77. So I'm within the margin of error here as they say.

The price is wrong for Amazon - it is $41.99 ($37.79 after STL).

Is WalMart going to have anything besides the Fullscreen version? Never shop there - EVER!

bis22 09-20-04 10:58 AM

For the Coconuts rebate, do you need to cut the UPC out of the actual box or is it on a sheet of paper like Indiana Jones?

just use the UPC Price Sticker that's on the front of it.

Ok, so I won't have to cut into any of the packaging, right?

My Wal-Mart usually carries both Widescreen and Full Screen versions of major releases. Scooby-Doo 2 just came out and they had both versions in stock.

It does seem though that once the Widescreen version is all sold out, that they don't re-stock the Widescreen version

In regards to Star Wars, I am planning on buying it on Friday from Best Buy using the 20% Madden Coupon, so I should get it for under $40.00 including taxes.

If you don't want to shop somewhere, you're free to do that as well.

But most people will probably buy Star Wars from a major discount store, such as Wal-Mart. For some people, money is tight right now and they have to stretch every dollar they have. So they will spend the least amount they have to.

Just my 2 cents.

no

just read the FYE rebate thread.

OldBoy 09-20-04 11:33 AM

so is FYE ultimately the best price if i don't have discounts/rebates/any goodies for any other store? just want to know the bottomline instead of getting confused with the many different threads on SW pricing. thanks to anyone to clarify...

Fry's (Tuesday Only) - $36.99
CompUSA - $39.99

I will probably pricematch Fry's at CC or Bestbuy.

Yes, and add $2.98 shipping, and you get $40.77.

you don't need to post the same question in multiple threads. it will get answered.

The price at FYE will be: $49.99 + Tax - $15 MIR

In NYC that would be a net price of $39.30. That's the best price if you don't have a Fry's or you don't do Amazon.com with STL.

i thought you couldn't use an online price to match. the fry's.com i think would nullify as per Best Buy policy...no?

nrose101 09-20-04 03:26 PM

Does anyone know if CC will take Fry's ads if you don't have a Fry in your area?( Florida doesn't have this store)

danicus007 09-20-04 03:35 PM

I just called my local Wal-Mart, Orlando-FL, and the lady told me that they will start selling them at midnight but she didn't know the price right now. She said they get all the fliers from the local stores and then they will find the cheapest price and beat it. Problem is that most stores put Low Price or something like that. Hopefully they will see CompUSA selling for 39.99 and beat that.

Late last week our store got in I'd say 20 shipping boxes full of Star Wars sets and there were boxes of both Full and Wide so you should be fine if you head to Wal-Mart.
