Not that puzzling to me. Marketers are scared of pricing themselves too high or too low on a potentially huge selling item like Star Wars.

1. They want foot traffic but don't want to give away the farm.

2. They don't want to be too high and have their stores being empty and (adding insult to injury) having to pay even more to those that come to their stores only for pricematching.

Gutless, but understandable. This way, they see what other stores are doing and make their decision. And for those suckers that don't come to this forum get foot traffic by those that show up without knowing the price in advance.

HTF has a thread on the Star Wars prices at B&M's.

Best Buy - 42.99
Circuit City - 44.99
Target - 44.99
CompUSA - 39.99

You can read the rest of the linked thread.

I await the eventual Costco thread to see if SW beats any of the above

I predict Costco at $36.99 or $37.99

D_N_G 09-18-04 09:17 AM

The DFW Fry's ad on Friday has Star Wars advertised for 36.99

theMadness 09-18-04 09:18 AM

And I suspect Fry's will undercut them the first day or two that it's out.

sataniko 09-18-04 09:41 AM

Thanks for the prices!

The sale prices in the Fry's ad are only good through Tuesday the 21st. Wenesday you can bet they will crank it up several notches.

JPRaup 09-18-04 11:25 AM

Do have prices for video games?

whitetigeress 09-18-04 11:33 AM

How about X-men Legends? It comes out on Thursday 9/24

OldBoy 09-18-04 11:34 AM

Looks like FYE was the way to go. Glad I pre-ordered there...no ship, cheapest price and get on Tuesday, nice!!

kevin75 09-18-04 12:01 PM

glad to see tha my preorder for SW at amazon is cheaper and that i don't need to go through the hassle of cancelling. thanks for the ads.

Jergen 09-18-04 12:03 PM

Runaway Jury and Once Upon in Mexico look pretty good to me, thanks alot!

Big Worms 09-18-04 12:11 PM

Well if Comp-Usa has it for $39.99 that means Best Buy, Circuit City, and Wal-mart will have it around the same price. They are are all in the same strip in my area.

Panic Room (Not Superbit)

I'm looking at the salespaper right now. It is the superbit so everyone knows.

nonametofame 09-18-04 12:42 PM

BB $42.99 - 20% off coupon = $34.39. Nice

aspikes 09-18-04 01:00 PM

BB $42.99 - 20% off coupon = $34.39 plus tax = 37.23 total

Amazon Stl 37.79 total

Not having to deal with trying to get a coupon, pushy sales people, incompetent cashiers, and giving Best Buy one red cent

Priceless

nonametofame 09-18-04 01:07 PM

Being able to pick it up on release date, picking out your own set (nobody wants a dented box), earning reward zone points, and sharing the enthusiasm of buying it in store. Nice. And since when did Best Buy have piss poor customer service?

Amazon is definitely the way to go, but BB is a good option for us B&M shoppers.

If they bother you so much just as long as you don't pay cash go checkout in another department. I've done it several times and I check plenty of people out in my department and none of the other people will give you all the hassles you speak of.

costco.com is showing $43.49, so probably not much lower in the stores.

it's a lil notepad like one of those ones made by Mead. It's pink too so if you're a guy and you buy this it's kinda fruity.

Also, at Toys R' Us they have a deal where if you buy the Star Wars Trilogy or Stars Wars Battlefront for PS2/XBox, you'll get a $10 gift card. So if you buy both, you'll get 2 $10 gift cards.

My guess is that they'll have it for $49.99. So it would be $39.99 + Tax + $10 (No Tax) for the Trilogy and the $10 gift card.

It might be possible to PM to Circuit City in which case it would be $29.99 + Tax + $10 (No Tax) for the Trilogy and the $10 Gift Card

Goldberg74 09-18-04 01:28 PM

I've got $10 worth of BB Reward Zone coupons in my wallet... so if its $43, I can use both and knock it down to $33. Not bad.

Oh. Good, guess I won't be making a special trip for that one then.
