Hollywood Video PVD's 3 for $25 Again

OK. Good news: They're 3 for $25 again. No way I'd buy them for $10 each, but this is an OK deal. Now some bad news: Due to a store policy change, they DVDs will no longer be put in new amray cases and shrink wrapped. They'll be put right in the rack in the crappy locked cases that the rent with. Yuck. At least my store gave me a bunch of Amrays for future use.

Great news. I knew if I held off for long enough they'd drop back, but it sure was tempting last week. I went in to work the 3/$20 on $9.99 ones and there were so many new releases in the 3/$30 group that I almost broke down.

I think there is still a 10% off gift cards code floating around, anyone know it, or better yet a new 20% one?

There was a 10% about 2 weeks ago when I checked... don't remember it though. Also, my Hollywood has always used the crappy cases. There are a few Amarays mixed in but not too many. I'll have to go check out what they've got right now, heh. Thanks Decker!

the store in NYC (Third Ave & 10th Street) never put them in Amarays. They just sold them in the crappy HWV cases. But I have a bunch of extra amarays from Blockbuster so it was never a big deal.

Just picked up Bubba Ho-tep, Fog of War, and Triplets of Belleville; does Bubba Ho-tep come in an amaray or digipak? City of God won't be available for another couple weeks.

They don't carry unrated versions, even though BBV does. My local store is swamped with dozens of copies of the rated version of Swimming Pool. Maybe that'll teach them.

I need a recommendation for my third DVD : Spartan or Touching The Void? I'm leaning towards Void since I'm a little interested in mountain climbing.

It is so ridiculous that these places don't carry UR. Just require ID to take them out - don't they already do that for R movies?

Decker - why not get both spart and touching the void? You don't have to buy in increments of three, just a minimum of three.

Hollywood does carry unrated stuff, but only if a rated version is not available.

You can't go wrong with either one! Both excellent underrated flicks!

Does HWV refund the price difference on price changes like this? Got 3 for $30 just last week. I'd assume they would since I should be able to do return and rebuy, otherwise, since they're unopened.

Just curious - thanks.

Doubt it, you aren't suppossed to be able to return for cash, just a replacement if the copy you bought is damaged.

I think if it's sealed and you still have a receipt you should be able to return them.

There is some sort of big price restructuring coming soon, like maybe as soon as next week. Something about a new price tier at around $6 for movies that have been PVD for more than 3 months or so.

That would be sweet. That might be the end of the "Columbia House is better" posts.

I just noticed on that webpage that Pluto Nash and Swept Away are both now advertised at $5.99. So maybe it's the crap that's getting price changes

The deal--

The pricing structure is now $5.99, $7.99, $9.99, and $12.99 and above.

There are tons of 5.99 movies, and many bigger movies that are $7.99. They are priced as marked. I believe the $7.99 and 9.99 (not entirely sure about the 9.99 ) movies are 3 for $20, and the $12.99 and above are 3 for $30.

I just helped sticker, that's why I know...

Although it has little to do with this bargain, but it was brushed upon, the Blockbuster I stopped by had the unrated Girl Next Door on VHS but the regular version on DVD! Seeing as I have the Movie Pass right now I was a bit ticked off. Not one VHS copy was checked out. Why the hell are they even ordering VHS anymore if it results in this type of screw-up?

It's a good deal.

I got

2 Fast 2 Furious - a real guilty pleasure if ever there was one
Bowling for Columbine
LOTR: ROTK

I could've gotten more since the selection was so huge, but I resisted.
