I've finally figured out how studio execs select titles for a 2-pack:

They look at my wish list.
They look at my "owned" list.
They select one from each.

Never fails....

PopcornTreeCt 08-07-04 04:39 PM

Nice. Think I'll pick up the Mutiny on the Bounty/Grand Hotel 2-pack. A My Fair Lady/Meet Me in St. Louis SE pack would of been great.

fumanstan 08-07-04 05:20 PM

Same great classics in there. It's a shame many of them have better releases.

You can replace the question marks with The Wizard of Oz and Arsenic and Old Lace, respectively. Also, these are coming out on 10/12, not 10/21.

You are 100% right. That *ALWAYS* happens..it sucks..I wish they would have these types of promotions where they could let you pick the two (similar to dvd empire's two warner brother for $16) ...

Mr. Blandings and Arsenic?

same here!
I probably won't double dip on any of them. I did that before thinking I would sell or trade the duplicates, but I couldn't find any place that would give me more than a buck or two for them. I will be getting "House of Wax/Thing" though, as I missed both of those.

Great find. Thanks.

Both of these are ones that I've been meaning to get for a while, so this is good news for me. I want those two Marx Bros. films but not really any of the others, so this is great. I'm glad to finally know about these BEFORE I actually bought one of them.

CASABLANCA/MALTESE FALCON (SE) (P
There's no way this is the 2-disc Casablance, is there? Only thing that leads me to believe this is that I think the 1-disc is OOP. DVDaf says it is in any case.

Thanks Rob. I added the missing info. DDD is listing the release date as 10/21 but as that is a Thursday and 10/12 is a Tuesday
they are probably wrong .

It does clearly say "(SE)", and to my knowledge, there isn't an SE of Maltese Falcon.

pagansoul 08-09-04 10:11 AM

How nice, there are a lot of them I wouldn't mind getting.

HOUSE OF WAX (1953)/THING FROM ANOTHER PLANET
GOODBYE MR CHIPS (1939)/MRS MINIVER
ON THE TOWN/BRIDAGOON (2PK)
ZIEGFELD GIRL/BROADWAY MELODY OF 1938
GREAT ZIEGELD/42ND STREET (2PK)
LES GIRLS/SILK STOCKINGS (2PK)

Just to add to the bargain, I'll make the observation that WB's House of Wax DVD actually has two films: House of Wax and Mystery of the Wax Museum. So, the House of Wax / Thing From Another World combination is an even sweeter deal because it's got 3 good old horror movies. :)

Cameron 08-10-04 01:04 PM

is this for ddd or will these 2 packs be all over

The 2 disc sets will be available everywhere. It is not a DDD exclusive. For the price of the sets elsewhere you should check the web or your local store in October. I believe MSRP is $30 for each 2 pack.

Decker 08-11-04 12:09 AM

JAILHOUSE ROCK/VIVA LAS VEGAS (2PK -- This may be too tempting to pass up -- the only two Elvis movies that didn't totally suck.

j123vt_99 08-11-04 09:44 AM

I assume the Ocean's 11 is the old one?

Their price on the Casablanca SE alone is over $20, while the single disc is $13.26, so I would guess it is a typo.

Cameron 08-12-04 06:32 PM

but the singing in the rain single disc is oop so who knows about casablanca....oh and meet me in st louis is a 2 disc

Classic Films 08-13-04 09:46 AM

Though single disks of Singin' in The Rain, and Casablanca are
oop they do show up at places like Costco. Perhaps Warners has a bunch of these in their warehouse and this is way of getting rid of them. I am sure many were returned to Warners when the 2 disc special editions came out. In any case we will find out in October when these are released.

Rizor 08-13-04 10:04 AM

I would assume they're selling the older Casablanca since the SE goes for so much but I've seen (and purchased) the Singin' in the Rain SE at Sam's Club for only $12 so it's possible that it's the one in the set.
